Anomalous universal quantum transport in 2D asymptotic quasiperiodic system

Quasiperiodic systems extend the concept of the Anderson transition to quasi-random and low-dimensional realms and have garnered widespread attention. Here, we propose the asymptotic quasiperiodic two-dimensional systems characterized by a sequence of rational magnetic fluxes, which have an irrational limit, and predict exotic universal wave-packet dynamics and transport phenomena associated with the asymptotic quasiperiodicity (AQP). The predictions unveil a class of multiple metal-insulator transitions driven by a novel interplay effect between AQP, relaxation, and finite temperature, which further reveals a unified and profound mechanism. Specifically, all the transport phenomena, including the wave-packet dynamics, the bulk and edge transport, are unified in the universal scaling laws unveiled in the asymptotic quasiperiodic regime, which demonstrate a nontrivial asymptotic connection to quantum phases in the quasiperiodic limit. Our work enriches the universal quantum transport phenomena, adds to the basic mechanisms underlying metal-insulator transitions, and opens up an avenue to study the exotic transport physics with AQP in high dimensions.

Fractional quantum anomalous Hall phase for Raman superarray of Rydberg atoms

Rydberg atom arrays offer promising platforms for quantum simulation of correlated quantum matter and raise great interests. This work proposes a novel stripe-lattice model with Raman superarray of Rydberg atoms to realize bosonic fractional quantum anomalous Hall (FQAH) phase. Two types of Rydberg states, arranged in a supperarray configuration and with Raman-assisted dipole-exchange couplings, are implemented to realize a minimal QAH model for hard-core bosons populated into a topological flat band with large bulk gap under proper tunable experimental condition. With this the bosonic FQAH phase can be further achieved and probed feasibly. In particular, a novel quench protocol is proposed to probe the fractionalized excitations by measuring the correlated quench dynamics featured by fractional charge tunneling between bulk and chiral edge modes in the open boundary.

Realization and detection of Kitaev quantum spin liquid with Rydberg atoms

The Kitaev chiral spin liquid has captured widespread interest in recent decades because of its intrinsic non-Abelian excitations, yet the experimental realization is challenging. Here we propose to realize and detect Kitaev chiral spin liquid in a deformed honeycomb array of Rydberg atoms. Through a novel laser-assisted dipole-dipole interaction mechanism to generate both effective hopping and pairing terms for hard-core bosons, together with van der Waals interactions, we achieve the pure Kitaev model with high precision. The gapped non-Abelian spin liquid phase is then obtained by introducing Zeeman fields. Moreover, we propose innovative strategies to probe the chiral Majorana edge modes by light Bragg scattering and by imagining their chiral motion. Our work broadens the range of exotic quantum many-body phases that can be realized and detected in atomic systems, and makes an important step toward manipulating non-Abelian anyons.

Exact new mobility edges between critical and localized states

The disorder systems host three types of fundamental quantum states, known as the extended, localized, and critical states, of which the critical states remain being much less explored. Here we propose a class of exactly solvable models which host a novel type of exact mobility edges (MEs) separating localized states from robust critical states, and propose experimental realization. Here the robustness refers to the stability against both single-particle perturbation and interactions in the few-body regime. The exactly solvable one-dimensional models are featured by quasiperiodic mosaic type of both hopping terms and on-site potentials. The analytic results enable us to unambiguously obtain the critical states which otherwise require arduous numerical verification including the careful finite size scalings. The critical states and new MEs are shown to be robust, illustrating a generic mechanism unveiled here that the critical states are protected by zeros of quasiperiodic hopping terms in the thermodynamic limit. Further, we propose a novel experimental scheme to realize the exactly solvable model and the new MEs in an incommensurate Rydberg Raman superarray. This work may pave a way to precisely explore the critical states and new ME physics with experimental feasibility.

Quantum phase with coexisting localized, extended, and critical zones

Conventionally a mobility edge (ME) marks a critical energy that separates two different transport zones where all states are extended and localized, respectively. Here we propose a novel quasiperiodic spin-orbit coupled lattice model with experimental feasibility to realize a fundamentally new quantum phase with three coexisting energy-dependent zones, i.e., the extended, critical and localized zones, and uncover the underlying generic mechanism for the occurrence of the new quantum phase. Accordingly, this phase exhibits new types of MEs which separate the extended states from critical ones, and the localized states from critical ones, respectively. We introduce the diagnostic quantities to characterize and distinguish the different zones, and show that the predicted phase can be detected by measuring the fractal dimension or conductivities. The experimental realization is also proposed and studied. This work extends the concept of ME and enriches the quantum phases in disordered systems, which sheds light on searching for new localization and critical phenomena with novel transport and thermoelectric effects.

Unitary Symmetry-Protected Non-Abelian Statistics of Majorana Modes

Symmetry-protected topological superconductors (TSCs) can host multiple Majorana zero modes (MZMs) at their edges or vortex cores, while whether the Majorana braiding in such systems is non-Abelian in general remains an open question. Here we uncover in theory the unitary symmetry-protected non-Abelian statisitcs of MZMs and propose the experimental realization. We show that braiding two vortices with each hosting $N$ unitary symmetry-protected MZMs generically reduces to $N$ independent sectors, with each sector braiding two different Majorana modes. This renders the unitary symmetry-protected non-Abelian statistics. As a concrete example, we demonstrate the proposed non-Abelian statistics in a spin-triplet TSC which hosts two MZMs at each vortex and, interestingly, can be precisely mapped to a quantum anomalous Hall insulator. Thus the unitary symmetry-protected non-Abelian statistics can be verified in the latter insulating phase, with the application to realizing various topological quantum gates being studied. Finally, we propose a novel experimental scheme to realize the present study in an optical Raman lattice. Our work opens a new route for Majorana-based topological quantum computation.
