An Iterative Graph Spectral Subtraction Method for Speech Enhancement

In this paper, we investigate the application of graph signal processing (GSP) theory in speech enhancement. We first propose a set of shift operators to construct graph speech signals, and then analyze their spectrum in the graph Fourier domain. By leveraging the differences between the spectrum of graph speech and graph noise signals, we further propose the graph spectral subtraction (GSS) method to suppress the noise interference in noisy speech. Moreover, based on GSS, we propose the iterative graph spectral subtraction (IGSS) method to further improve the speech enhancement performance. Our experimental results show that the proposed operators are suitable for graph speech signals, and the proposed methods outperform the traditional basic spectral subtraction (BSS) method and iterative basic spectral subtraction (IBSS) method in terms of both signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) and mean Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ).

Fractional Gray-Scott Model: Well-posedness, Discretization, and Simulations

The Gray-Scott (GS) model represents the dynamics and steady state pattern formation in reaction-diffusion systems and has been extensively studied in the past. In this paper, we consider the effects of anomalous diffusion on pattern formation by introducing the fractional Laplacian into the GS model. First, we prove that the continuous solutions of the fractional GS model are unique. We then introduce the Crank-Nicolson (C-N) scheme for time discretization and weighted shifted Grünwald difference operator for spatial discretization. We perform stability analysis for the time semi-discrete numerical scheme, and furthermore, we analyze numerically the errors with benchmark solutions that show second-order convergence both in time and space. We also employ the spectral collocation method in space and C-N scheme in time to solve the GS model in order to verify the accuracy of our numerical solutions. We observe the formation of different patterns at different values of the fractional order, which are quite different than the patterns of the corresponding integer-order GS model, and quantify them by using the radial distribution function (RDF). Finally, we discover the scaling law for steady patterns of the RDFs in terms of the fractional order $1<α\leq 2 $.

Magnetoresistance and robust resistivity plateau in MoAs2

We have grown the MoAs$_2$ single crystal which crystallizes in a monoclinic structure with C2/m space group. Transport measurements show that MoAs$_2$ displays a metallic behavior at zero field and undergoes a metal-to-semiconductor crossover at low temperatures when the applied magnetic field is over 5 T. A robust resistivity plateau appears below 18 K and persists for the field up to 9 T. A large positive magnetoresistance (MR), reaching about 2600\% at 2 K and 9 T, is observed when the field is perpendicular to the current. The MR becomes negative below 40 K when the field is rotated to be parallel to the current. The Hall resistivity shows the non-linear field-dependence below 70 K. The analysis using two-band model indicates a compensated electron-hole carrier density at low temperatures. A combination of the breakdown of Kohler's rule, the abnormal drop and the cross point in Hall data implies that a possible Lifshitz transition has occurred between 30 K and 60 K, likely driving the compensated electron-hole density, the large MR as well as the metal-semiconductor transition in MoAs$_2$. Our results indicate that the family of centrosymmetric transition-metal dipnictides has rich transport behavior which can in general exhibit variable metallic and topological features.

Spermatogonial Stem Cell and TGF-\b{eta} involved Regulation of Proliferation and Differentiation

Spermatogenesis is sustained by the proliferation and differentiation of spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs). SSCs are derived from primordial germ cells (PGCs) during embryonic development. The signal from the mammalian embryonic tissue is critical to the localization of PGCs and various factors and signaling pathways are involved into the regulation of these process. However, the molecules controlling these processes still need further clarification. In this concise review, the origin, development, differentiation of SSCs and regulating mechanisms throughout these processes are summarized and discussed in details. Finally, we mainly focused on elaborating the functions of TGF-\b{eta} superfamily proteins and BMP4 in regulating SSCs formation and differentiation.

Carbon nanotubes heavy metal detection with stripping voltammetry: A review paper

The challenge of heavy metal detection for environmental, industrial and medical purposes has led to the development of many analytical techniques. Stripping voltammetry is a very sensitive electrochemical method and has been widely used for heavy metal detection. Carbon nanotubes, a well-studied carbon material with physical and chemical properties suited for electrode material is commonly employed for sensitive and selective metal detection in electrochemistry. This article reviews the recent (2011-2016) applications of carbon nanotubes as an electrode or electrode surface modifier for heavy metals detection with stripping voltammetry.

The Dirichlet problem for a class of Hessian type equations

We are concerned with the Dirichlet problem for a class of Hessian type equations. Applying some new methods we are able to establish the $C^2$ estimates for an approximating problem under essentially optimal structure conditions. Based on these estimates, the existence of classical solutions is proved.

Field-induced resistivity plateau and unsaturated negative magnetoresistance in topological semimetal TaSb2

Several prominent transport properties have been identified as key signatures of topologicalmaterials. One is the resistivity plateau at low temperatures as observed in several topological insulators (TIs), another is the negative magnetoresistance (MR) when the applied magnetic field is parallel to the current direction as observed in several topological semimetals (TSMs) including Dirac semimetals (DSMs) and Weyl semimetals (WSMs). Usually, these two exotic phenomena emerge in distinct materials with or without time reversal symmetry (TRS), respectively. Here we report the discovery of a new member in TSMs, TaSb2, which clearly exhibits both of these phenomena in a single material. This compound crystallizes in a base-centered monoclinic, centrosymmetric structure, and is metallic with a low carrier density in the zero field. While applying magnetic field it exhibits insulating behavior before appearance of a resistivity plateau below Tc =13 K. In the plateau regime, the ultrahigh carrier mobility and extreme magnetoresistance (XMR) for the field perpendicular to the current are observed as in DSMs and WSMs, in addition to a quantum oscillation behavior with non-trivial Berry phases. In contrast to the most known DSMs and WSMs, the negative MR in TaSb2 does not saturate up to 9 T, which, together with the almost linear Hall resistivity, manifests itself an electron-hole non-compensated TMS. These findings indicate that the resistivity plateau could be a generic feature of topology-protected metallic states even in the absence of TRS and compatible with the negative MR depending on the field direction. Our experiment extends a materials basis represented by TaSb2 as a new platform for future theoretical investigations and device applications of topological materials.

Transition metals doped CuAlSe2 for promising intermediate band materials

Introducing an isolated intermediate band (IB) into a wide band gap semiconductor can potentially improve the optical absorption of the material beyond the Shockley-Queisser limitation for solar cells. Here, we present a systematic study of the thermodynamic stability, electronic structures, and optical properties of transition metals (M = Ti, V, and Fe) doped CuAlSe2 for potential IB thin film solar cells, by adopting the first-principles calculation based on the hybrid functional method. We found from chemical potential analysis that for all dopants considered, the stable doped phase only exits when the Al atom is substituted. More importantly, with this substitution, the IB feature is determined by $3d$ electronic nature of M^{3+} ion, and the electronic configuration of 3d^1 can drive a optimum IB that possesses half-filled character and suitable subbandgap from valence band or conduction band. We further show that Ti-doped CuAlSe2 is the more promising candidate for IB materials since the resulted IB in it is half filled and extra absorption peaks occurs in the optical spectrum accompanied with a largely enhanced light absorption intensity. The result offers a understanding for IB induced by transition metals into CuAlSe2 and is significant to fabricate the related IB materials.

A priori estimates for the obstacle problem of Hessian type equations on Riemannian manifolds

We are concerned with a priori estimates for the obstacle problem of a wide class of fully nonlinear equations on Riemannian manifolds. We use new techniques introduced by Bo Guan and derive new results for a priori second order estimates of its singular perturbation problem under fairly general conditions. By approximation, the existence of a C^{1,1} viscosity solution is proved.
