The Derivative of a Constructible Function is Constructible

The notion of constructible functions in the setting of tame real geometry has been introduced by Cluckers and Dan Miller in their work on parametric integration of globally subanalytic functions. A function on a globally subanalytic set is called constructible if it is a finite sum of finite products of globally subanalytic functions and the logarithm of positive globally subanalytic functions. We show that the class of constructible functions is stable under taking derivatives.

On the de Rham theorem in the globally subanalytic setting

For globally subanalytic manifolds we define de Rham complexes of globally subanalytic differential forms and of constructible differential forms. Whereas the de Rham theorem does not hold for the former in the non-compact case, it does hold for the latter in full generality. We deduce that the constructible de Rham cohomology groups are canonically isomorphic to the classical ones. We stress that our results apply already in the $C^1$-setting.

Semialgebraicity of the convergence domain of an algebraic power series

Given a power series in finitely many variables that is algebraic over the corresponding polynomial ring over a subfield of the reals, we show that its convergence domain is semialgebraic over the real closure of the subfield. This gives in particular that the convergence radius of a univariate Puiseux series that is algebraic in the above sense belongs to the real closure or is infinity.

Periods, Power Series, and Integrated Algebraic Numbers

Periods are defined as integrals of semialgebraic functions defined over the rationals. Periods form a countable ring not much is known about. Examples are given by taking the antiderivative of a power series which is algebraic over the polynomial ring over the rationals and evaluate it at a rational number. We follow this path and close these algebraic power series under taking iterated antiderivatives and nearby algebraic and geometric operations. We obtain a system of rings of power series whose coefficients form a countable real closed field. Using techniques from o-minimality we are able to show that every period belongs to this field. In the setting of o-minimality we define exponential integrated algebraic numbers and show that the Euler constant is an exponential integrated algebraic number. Hence they are a good candiate for a natural number system extending the period ring and containing important mathematical constants.

Growth of Log-Analytic Functions

We show that unary log-analytic functions are polynomially bounded. In the higher dimensional case globally a log-analytic function can have exponential growth. We show that a log-analytic function is polynomially bounded on a definable set which contains the germ of every ray at infinity.

Differentiability Properties of Log-Analytic Functions

We show that the derivative of a log-analytic function is log-analytic. We prove that log-analytic functions exhibit strong quasianalytic properties. We establish the parametric version of Tamm's theorem for log-analytic functions.

Logarithms, constructible functions and integration on non-archimedean models of the theory of the real field with restricted analytic functions with value group of finite archimedean rank

Given a model of the theory of the real field with restricted analytic functions such that its value group has finite archimedean rank we show how one can extend the restricted logarithm to a global logarithm with values in the polynomial ring over the model with dimension the archimedean rank. The logarithms are determined by algebraic data from the model, namely by a section of the model and by an embedding of the value group into its Hahn group. If the archimedean rank of the value group coincides with the rational rank the logarithms are equivalent. We illustrate how one can embed such a logarithm into a model of the real field with restricted analytic functions and exponentiation. This allows us to define constructible functions with good lifting properties. As an application we establish a Lebesgue measure and integration theory with values in the polynomial ring, extending and strengthening the construction in [T. Kaiser: Lebesgue measure and integration theory on non-archimedean real closed fields with archimedean value group. Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. 116 (2018), no. 2, 209-247.].

Ilyashenko algebras based on transserial asymptotic expansions

We construct a Hardy field that contains Ilyashenko's class of germs at infinity of almost regular functions as well as all log-exp-analytic germs. In addition, each germ in this Hardy field is uniquely characterized by an asymptotic expansion that is an LE-series as defined by van den Dries et al. As these series generally have support of order type larger than that of the set of natural numbers, the notion of asymptotic expansion itself needs to be generalized.

Analytic continuations of log-exp-analytic germs

We describe maximal, in a sense made precise, analytic continuations of germs at infinity of unary functions definable in the o-minimal structure R_an,exp on the Riemann surface of the logarithm. As one application, we give an upper bound on the logarithmic-exponential complexity of the compositional inverse of an infinitely increasing such germ, in terms of its own logarithmic-exponential complexity and its level. As a second application, we strengthen Wilkie's theorem on definable complex analytic continuations of germs belonging to the residue field of the valuation ring of all polynomially bounded definable germs.

Lebesgue measure theory and integration theory on non-archimedean real closed fields with archimedean value group

Given a non-archimedean real closed field with archimedean value group which contains the reals, we establish for the category of semialgebraic sets and functions a full Lebesgue measure and integration theory such that the main results from the classical setting hold. The construction involves methods from model theory, o-minimal geometry and valuation theory. We set up the construction in such a way that it is determined by a section of the valuation. If the value group is isomorphic to the group of rational numbers the construction is uniquely determined up to isomorphism. The range of the measure and integration is obtained in a controled and tame way from the real closed field we start with. The main example is given by the case of the field of Puiseux series where the range is the polynomial ring in one variable over this field.

Piecewise Weierstrass preparation and division for o-minimal holomorphic functions

Given an o-minimal structure expanding the field of reals, we show a piecewise Weierstrass preparation theorem and a piecewise Weierstrass division theorem for definable holomorphic functions. In the semialgebraic setting and for the structure of globally subanalytic sets and functions we obtain the corresponding results for definable real analytic functions. As an application we show a definable global Nullstellensatz for principal ideals.

$R$-analytic functions

We introduce the notion of $R$-analytic functions. These are definable in an o-minimal expansion of a real closed field $R$ and are locally the restriction of a $K$-differentiable function (defined by Peterzil and Starchenko) where $K=R[\sqrt{-1}]$ is the algebraic closure of $R$. The class of these functions in this general setting exhibits the nice properties of real analytic functions. We also define strongly $R$-analytic functions. These are globally the restriction of a $K$-differentiable function. We show that in arbitrary models of important o-minimal theories strongly $R$-analytic functions abound and that the concept of analytic cell decomposition can be transferred to non-standard models.

Transition maps at non-resonant hyperbolic singularities are o-minimal

We construct a model complete and o-minimal expansion of the field of real numbers such that, for any planar analytic vector field X and any isolated, non-resonant hyperbolic singularity p of X, a transition map for X at p is definable in this structure. This structure also defines all convergent generalized power series with natural support and is polynomially bounded.

The Dirichlet problem in the plane with semianalytic raw data, quasianalyticity and o-minimal structures

We investigate the Dirichlet solution for a semianalytic continuous function on the boundary of a semianalytic bounded domain in the plane. We show that the germ of the Dirichlet solution at a boundary point with angle greater than 0 lies in a certain quasianalytic class used by Ilyashenko in his work on Hilbert's 16th problem. With this result we can prove that the Dirichlet solution is definable in an o-minimal structure if the angle at a singular boundary point of the domain is an irrational multiple of $π$.

The Riemann Mapping Theorem for semianalytic domains and o-minimality

We consider the Riemann Mapping Theorem in the case of a bounded simply connected and semianalytic domain. We show that the germ at 0 of the Riemann map (i.e. biholomorphic map) from the upper half plane to such a domain can be realized in a certain quasianalytic class if the angle of the boundary at the point to which 0 is mapped, is greater than 0. This quasianalytic class was introduced and used by Ilyashenko in his work on Hilbert's 16th problem. With this result we can prove that the Riemann map from a bounded simply connected semianalytic domain onto the unit ball is definable in an o-minimal structure, provided that at singular boundary points the angles of the boundary are irrational multiples of $π$.
