The Cauchy problem for the logarithmic Schrödinger equation revisited

We revisit the Cauchy problem for the logarithmic Schrödinger equation and construct strong solutions in $H^1$, the energy space, and the $H^2$-energy space. The solutions are provided in a constructive way, which does not rely on compactness arguments, that a sequence of approximate solutions forms a Cauchy sequence in a complete function space and then actual convergence is shown to be in a strong sense.

Inverse problems of identifying the time-dependent source coefficient for subelliptic heat equations

We discuss inverse problems of determining the time-dependent source coefficient for a general class of subelliptic heat equations. We show that a single data at an observation point guarantees the existence of a (smooth) solution pair for the inverse problem. Moreover, additional data at the observation point implies an explicit formula for the time-dependent source coefficient. We also explore an inverse problem with nonlocal additional data, which seems a new approach even in the Laplacian case.

Global strong solutions of the coupled Klein-Gordon-Schrödinger equations

We study the initial-boundary value problem for the coupled Klein-Gordon-Schrödinger equations in a domain in $\mathbb R^N$ with $N \leq 4$. Under natural assumptions on the initial data, we prove the existence and uniqueness of global solutions in $H^2 \oplus H^2 \oplus H^1$. The method of the construction of global strong solutions depends on the proof that solutions of regularized systems by the Yosida approximation form a bounded sequence in $H^2 \oplus H^2 \oplus H^1$ and a convergent sequence in $H^1 \oplus H^1 \oplus L^2$. The method of proof is independent of the Brezis-Gallouet technique and a compactness argument.

Revisiting the Rellich inequality

We revisit the Rellich inequality from the viewpoint of isolating the contributions from radial and spherical derivatives. This naturally leads to a comparison of the norms of the radial Laplacian and Laplace{Beltrami operators with the standard Laplacian. In the case of the Laplace{ Beltrami operator, the three-dimensional case is the most subtle and here we improve a result of Evans and Lewis by identifying the best constant. Our arguments build on certain identities recently established by Wadade and the second and third authors, along with use of spherical harmonics.

Schrödinger-improved Boussinesq system in two space dimensions

We study the Cauchy problem for the Schrödinger-improved Boussinesq system in a two dimensional domain. Under natural assumptions on the data without smallness, we prove the existence and uniqueness of global strong solutions. Moreover, we consider the vanishing "improvement" limit of global solutions as the coefficient of the linear term of the highest order in the equation of ion sound waves tends to zero. Under the same smallness assumption on the data as in the Zakharov case, solutions in the vanishing "improvement" limit are shown to satisfy the Zakharov system.

Small data scattering of 2d Hartree type Dirac equations

In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem of 2d Dirac equation with Hartree type nonlinearity $c(|\cdot|^{-γ} * \langle ψ, βψ\rangle)βψ$ with $c\in \mathbb R\setminus\{0\} $, $0 < γ< 2$. Our aim is to show the small data global well-posedness and scattering in $H^s$ for $s > γ-1$ and $1 < γ< 2$. The difficulty stems from the singularity of the low-frequency part $|ξ|^{-(2-γ)}χ_{\{|ξ|\le 1\}}$ of potential. To overcome it we adapt $U^p-V^p$ space argument and bilinear estimates of \cite{yang, tes2d} arising from the null structure. We also provide nonexistence result for scattering in the long-range case $0 < γ\le 1$.

Representation formulae for the higher-order Steklov and $L^{2^{m}}$-Friedrichs inequalities

In this paper, we obtain remainder term representation formulae for the higher-order Steklov inequality for vector fields which imply short and direct proofs of the sharp (classical) Steklov inequalities. The obtained results directly imply sharp Steklov type inequalities for some vector fields satisfying Hörmander's condition, for example. We also give representation formulae for the $L^{2^{m}}$-Friedrichs inequalities for vector fields.

Multidimensional inverse Cauchy problems for evolution equations

We discuss inverse problems to finding the time-dependent coefficient for the multidimensional Cauchy problems for both strictly hyperbolic equations and polyharmonic heat equations. We also extend our techniques to the general inverse Cauchy problems for evolution equations.

Self-similar solutions to the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation

A class of self-similar solutions to the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations is studied. Especially, the asymptotics of profile functions are shown to posses a logarithmic phase correction. This logarithmic phase correction is obtained from the nonlinear interaction of profile functions. This is a remarkable difference from the pseudo-conformally invariant case, where the logarithmic correction comes from the linear part of the equations of the profile functions.

Note for global existence of semilinear heat equation in weighted $L^\infty$

The local and global existence of the Cauchy problem for semilinear heat equations with small data is studied in the weighted $L^\infty (\mathbb R^n)$ framework by a simple contraction argument. The contraction argument is based on a weighted uniform control of solutions related with the free solutions and the first iterations for the initial data of negative power.

Local Well-posedness and Blow-up for the Half Ginzburg-Landau-Kuramoto equation with rough coefficients and potential

We study the Cauchy problem for the half Ginzburg-Landau-Kuramoto (hGLK) equation with the second order elliptic operator having rough coefficients and potential type perturbation. The blow-up of solutions for hGLK equation with non-positive nonlinearity is shown by an ODE argument. The key tools in the proof are appropriate commutator estimates and the essential self-adjointness of the symmetric uniformly elliptic operator with rough metric and potential type perturbation.

On global well-posedness for nonlinear semirelativistic equations in some scaling subcritical and critical cases

In this paper, the global well-posedness of semirelativistic equations with a power type nonlinearity on Euclidean spaces is studied. In two dimensional $H^s$ scaling subcritical case with $1 \leq s \leq 2$, the local well-posedness follows from a Strichartz estimate. In higher dimensional $H^1$ scaling subcritical case, the local well-posedness for radial solutions follows from a weighted Strichartz estimate. Moreover, in three dimensional $H^1$ scaling critical case, the local well-posedness for radial solutions follows from a uniform bound of solutions which may be derived by the corresponding one dimensional problem. Local solutions may be extended by a priori estimates.

Remarks on the Hardy type inequalities with remainder terms in the framework of equalities

We study the Hardy type inequalities in the framework of equalities. We present equalities which immediately imply Hardy type inequalities by dropping the remainder term. Simultaneously we give a characterization of the class of functions which makes the remainder term vanish. A point of our observation is to apply an orthogonality properties in general Hilbert space, and which gives a simple and direct understanding of the Hardy type inequalities as well as the nonexistence of nontrivial extremizers.

Remarks on the Rellich inequality

We study the Rellich inequalities in the framework of equalities. We present equalities which imply the Rellich inequalities by dropping remainders. This provides a simple and direct understanding of the Rellich inequalities as well as the nonexistence of nontrivial extremisers.

Stability of trace theorems on the sphere

We prove stable versions of trace theorems on the sphere in $L^2$ with optimal constants, thus obtaining rather precise information regarding near-extremisers. We also obtain stability for the trace theorem into $L^q$ for $q > 2$, by combining a refined Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality on the sphere with a duality-stability result proved very recently by Carlen. Finally, we extend a local version of Carlen's duality theorem to establish local stability of certain Strichartz estimates for the kinetic transport equation.
