Exponential attractors with explicit fractal dimensions for retarded functional differential equations

The aim of this paper is to propose a new method to construct exponential attractors for infinite dimensional dynamical systems in Banach spaces with explicit fractal dimension. The approach is established by combing the squeezing properties and the covering of finite subspace of Banach spaces, which generalize the method established in Hilbert spaces. The constructed exponential attractors possess explicit fractal dimensions which do not depend on the entropy number but only depend on the spectrum of the linear part and Lipschitz constant of the nonlinear part. The method is especially effective for functional differential equations in Banach spaces for which sate decomposition of the linear part can be adopted to prove squeezing property. The theoretical results are applied to the retarded functional differential equation and retarded reaction-diffusion equations.

Random attractors for a stochastic nonlocal delayed reaction-diffusion equation on a semi-infinite interval

The aim of this paper is to prove the existence and qualitative property of random attractors for a stochastic nonlocal delayed reaction-diffusion equation (SNDRDE) on a semi-infinite interval with a Dirichlet boundary condition on the finite end. This equation models the spatial-temporal evolution of the mature individuals for a two-stage species whose juvenile and adults both diffuse that lives on a semi-infinite domain and subject to random perturbations. By transforming the SNDRDE into a random evolution equation with delay, by means of a stationary conjugate transformation, we first establish the global existence and uniqueness of solutions to the equation, after which we show the solutions generate a random dynamical system. Then, we deduce uniform a priori estimates of the solutions and show the existence of bounded random absorbing sets. Subsequently, we prove the pullback asymptotic compactness of the random dynamical system generated by the SNDRDE with respect to the compact open topology, and hence obtain the existence of random attractors. At last, it is proved that the random attractor is an exponentially attracting stationary solution under appropriate conditions.

Topological dimensions of random attractors for stochastic partial differential equations with delay

The aim of this paper is to obtain an estimation of Hausdorff as well as fractal dimensions of random attractors for a class of stochastic partial differential equations with delay. The stochastic equation is first transformed into a delayed random partial differential equation by means of a random conjugation, which is then recast into an auxiliary Hilbert space. For the obtained equation, it is firstly proved that it generates a random dynamical system (RDS) in the auxiliary Hilbert space. Then it is shown that the equation possesses random attractors by a uniform estimate of the solution and the asymptotic compactness of the generated RDS. After establishing the variational equation in the auxiliary Hilbert space and the $\mathbb{P}$ almost surely differentiable properties of the RDS, an upper estimate of both Hausdorff and fractal dimensions of the random attractors are obtained.

Continuity and topological structural stability for nonautonomous random attractors

In this work, we study continuity and topological structural stability of attractors for nonautonomous random differential equations obtained by small bounded random perturbations of autonomous semilinear problems. First, we study existence and permanence of unstable sets of hyperbolic solutions. Then, we use this to establish lower semicontinuity of nonautonomous random attractors and to show that the gradient structure persists under nonautonomous random perturbations. Finally, we apply the abstract results in a stochastic differential equation and in a damped wave equation with a perturbation on the damping.

On the initial value problem for a class of nonlinear biharmonic equation with time-fractional derivative

In this work, we investigate the IVP for a time-fractional fourth-order equation with nonlinear source terms. More specifically, we consider the time-fractional biharmonic with exponential nonlinearity and the time-fractional Cahn-Hilliard equation. By using the Fourier transform concept, the generalized formula for the mild solution as well as the smoothing effects of resolvent operators are proved. For the IVP associated with the first one, by using the Orlicz space with the function $ Ξ(z)=e^{|z|^p}-1$ and some embeddings between it and the usual Lebesgue spaces, we prove that the solution is a global-in-time solution or it shall blow up in a finite time if the initial value is regular. In the case of singular initial data, the local-in-time/global-in-time existence and uniqueness are derived. Also, the regularity of the mild solution is investigated. For the IVP associated with the second one, some modifications to the generalized formula are made to deal with the nonlinear term. We also establish some important estimates for the derivatives of resolvent operators, they are the basis for using the Picard sequence to prove the local-in-time existence of the solution.

The effect of a small bounded noise on the hyperbolicity for autonomous semilinear differential equations

In this work we study permanence of hyperbolicity for autonomous differential equations under nonautonomous random/stochastic perturbations. For the linear case, we study robustness and existence of exponential dichotomies for nonautonomous random dynamical systems. Next, we establish a result on the persistence of hyperbolic equilibria for nonlinear differential equations. We show that for each nonautonomous random perturbation of an autonomous semilinear problem with a hyperbolic equilibrium there exists a bounded \textit{random hyperbolic solution} for the associated nonlinear nonautonomous random dynamical systems. Moreover, we show that these random hyperbolic solutions converge to the autonomous equilibrium. As an application, we consider a semilinear differential equation with a small nonautonomous multiplicative white noise, and as an example, we apply the abstract results to a strongly damped wave equation.

Pullback and uniform attractors for nonautonomous reaction-diffusion equation in Dumbbell domains

This work is devoted to the study of the asymptotic behavior of nonautonomous reaction-diffusion equations in Dumbbell domains $Ω_{\varepsilon} \subset \mathbb{R}^{N}$. Each $Ω_{\varepsilon}$ is the union of a fixed open set $Ω$ and a channel $R_{\varepsilon}$ that collapses to a line segment $R_0$ as $\varepsilon \rightarrow 0^{+}$. We first establish the global existence of solution for each problem by using two properties of the parabolic equation considered, which are the positivity of the solutions and comparison results for them. We prove the existence of pullback and uniform attractors and we obtain uniform bounds (in $\varepsilon$) for them.

Permanence of nonuniform nonautonomous hyperbolicity for infinite-dimensional differential equations

In this paper, we study stability properties of nonuniform hyperbolicity for evolution processes associated with differential equations in Banach spaces. We prove a robustness result of nonuniform hyperbolicity for linear evolution processes, that is, we show that the property of admitting a nonuniform exponential dichotomy is stable under perturbation. Moreover, we provide conditions to obtain uniqueness and continuous dependence of projections associated with nonuniform exponential dichotomies. We also present an example of evolution process in a Banach space that admits nonuniform exponential dichotomy and study the permanence of the nonuniform hyperbolicity under perturbation. Finally, we prove persistence of nonuniform hyperbolic solutions for nonlinear evolution processes under perturbations.

Existence and regularity results for terminal value problem for nonlinear fractional wave equations

We consider the terminal value problem (or called final value problem, initial inverse problem, backward in time problem) of determining the initial value, in a general class of time-fractional wave equations with Caputo derivative, from a given final value. We are concerned with the existence, regularity of solutions upon the terminal value. Under several assumptions on the nonlinearity, we address and show the well-posedness (namely, the existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence) for the terminal value problem. Some regularity results for the mild solution and its derivatives of first and fractional orders are also derived. The effectiveness of our methods are showed by applying the results to two interesting models: Time fractional Ginzburg-Landau equation, and Time fractional Burgers equation, where time and spatial regularity estimates are obtained.

Corrigendum to the chapter "Some aspects concerning the dynamics of stochastic chemostats"

In this paper we correct an error made in a previous work, where a misleading stochastic system was obtained due to a lapse concerning a sign in one of the equations at the beginning of the work such that the results obtained are quite different to the ones developed throughout this paper since the required conditions, and also the results, substantially change. Then, in this work we repair the analysis carried out there, where we studied a simple chemostat model influenced by white noise by making use of the theory of random attractors. Even though the changes are minor, we have chosen to provide a new version of the entire paper instead of a list of changes, for sake of readability. We first perform a change of variable using the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, transforming our stochastic model into a system of differential equations with random coefficients. After proving that this random system possesses a unique solution for any initial value, we analyze the existence of random attractors. Finally we illustrate our results with some numerical simulations.

On the Structure of the Global Attractor for Non-autonomous Difference Equations with Weak Convergence

The aim of this paper is to describe the structure of global attractors for non-autonomous difference systems of equations with recurrent (in particular, almost periodic) coefficients. We consider a special class of this type of systems (the so--called weak convergent systems). We study this problem in the framework of general non-autonomous dynamical systems (cocycles). We apply the general results obtained in our early papers to study the almost periodic (almost automorphic, recurrent) and asymptotically almost periodic (asymptotically almost automorphic, asymptotically recurrent) solutions of difference equations.
