Obstruction theory on 7-manifolds

This paper gives a uniform, self-contained and direct approach to a variety of obstruction-theoretic problems on manifolds of dimension 7 and 6. We give necessary and sufficient cohomological criteria for the existence of various G-structures on vector bundles over such manifolds especially using low dimensional representations of the group U(2).

Parabolic conformally symplectic structures II; parabolic contactification

Parabolic almost conformally symplectic structures were introduced in the first part of this series of articles as a class of geometric structures which have an underlying almost conformally symplectic structure. If this underlying structure is conformally symplectic, then one obtains a PCS-structure. In the current article, we relate PCS-structures to parabolic contact structures. Starting from a parabolic contact structure with a transversal infinitesimal automorphism, we first construct a natural PCS-structure on any leaf space of the corresponding foliation. Then we develop a parabolic version of contactification to show that any PCS-structure can be locally realized (uniquely up to isomorphism) in this way. In the second part of the paper, these results are extended to an analogous correspondence between contact projective structures and so-called conformally Fedosov structures. The developments in this article provide the technical background for a construction of sequences and complexes of differential operators which are naturally associated to PCS-structures by pushing down BGG sequences on parabolic contact structures. This is the topic of the third part of this series of articles.

Monogenic hull for the n-Cauchy-Fueter operator and twistor theory

This is the first part in a series of three articles in which are studied the domains of monogenicity for the $n$-Cauchy-Fueter operator. Using the twistor theory, we will in this article show that for a given open subset $U$ of $\mathbb{Q}^n$, there is an open subset $\mathcal{H}(U)$, called the monogenic hull of $U$, of $M_{2n\times 2}^{\mathbb{C}}=\mathbb{Q}^n\otimes\mathbb{C}$ such that each monogenic function in $U$ extends to a unique pair of holomorphic functions on $\mathcal{H}(U)$. In the second part of the series we will exploit the twistor theory furthermore to prove that any pseudoconvex domain in $\mathbb{Q}^n$ is a domain of monogenicity. In the third part of the series, we show the other implication and provide a geometric characterization of the domains of monogenicity.

Elliptic complex on the Grassmannian of oriented 2-planes

The Grassmannian $V_2(\mathbb{R}^{n+2})$ of oriented 2-planes in $\mathbb R^{n+2}$ where $n\ge3$ carries a homogeneous parabolic contact structure of Grassmannian type. The main result of this article is that on $V_2(\mathbb{R}^{n+2})$ lives an elliptic complex of invariant differential operators of length 3 which starts with the 2-Dirac operator and that the index of the complex is zero.

Resolution of the $k$-Dirac operator

This is the second part in a series of two papers. The $k$-Dirac complex is a complex of differential operators which are natural to a particular $|2|$-graded parabolic geometry. In this paper we will consider the $k$-Dirac complex over a homogeneous space of the parabolic geometry and as a first result, we will prove that the $k$-Dirac complex is exact with formal power series at any fixed point. Then we will show that the $k$-Dirac complex descends from an affine subset of the homogeneous space to a complex of linear, constant coefficient differential operators and that the first operator in the descended complex is the $k$-Dirac operator studied in Clifford analysis. The main result of this paper is that the descended complex is locally exact and thus it forms a resolution of the $k$-Dirac operator.

$k$-Dirac Complexes

This is the first paper in a series of two papers. In this paper we construct complexes of invariant differential operators which live on homogeneous spaces of $|2|$-graded parabolic geometries of some particular type. We call them $k$-Dirac complexes. More explicitly, we will show that each $k$-Dirac complex arises as the direct image of a relative BGG sequence and so this fits into the scheme of the Penrose transform. We will also prove that each $k$-Dirac complex is formally exact, i.e., it induces a long exact sequence of infinite (weighted) jets at any fixed point. In the second part of the series we use this information to show that each $k$-Dirac complex is exact at the level of formal power series at any point and that it descends to a resolution of the $k$-Dirac operator studied in Clifford analysis.

Parabolic conformally symplectic structures III; Invariant differential operators and complexes

This is the last part of a series of articles on a family of geometric structures (PACS-structures) which all have an underlying almost conformally symplectic structure. While the first part of the series was devoted to the general study of these structures, the second part focused on the case that the underlying structure is conformally symplectic (PCS-structures). In that case, we obtained a close relation to parabolic contact structures via a concept of parabolic contactification. It was also shown that special symplectic connections (and thus all connections of exotic symplectic holonomy) arise as the canonical connection of such a structure. In this last part, we use parabolic contactifications and constructions related to Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand (BGG) sequences for parabolic contact structures, to construct sequences of differential operators naturally associated to a PCS-structure. In particular, this gives rise to a large family of complexes of differential operators associated to a special symplectic connection. In some cases, large families of complexes for more general instances of PCS-structures are obtained.

Parabolic conformally symplectic structures I; definition and distinguished connections

We introduce a class of first order G-structures, each of which has an underlying almost conformally symplectic structure. There is one such structure for each real simple Lie algebra which is not of type $C_n$ and admits a contact grading. We show that a structure of each of these types on a smooth manifold $M$ determines a canonical compatible linear connection on the tangent bundle $TM$. This connection is characterized by a normalization condition on its torsion. The algebraic background for this result is proved using Kostant's theorem on Lie algebra cohomology. For each type, we give an explicit description of both the geometric structure and the normalization condition. In particular, the torsion of the canonical connection naturally splits into two components, one of which is exactly the obstruction to the underlying structure being conformally symplectic. This article is the first in a series aiming at a construction of differential complexes naturally associated to these geometric structures.

k-Dirac operator and the Cartan-Kahler theorem for weighted differential operators

The k-Dirac operator is a differential operator which is natural to geometric structure of a parabolic type. We will give a set of initial conditions for this operator. In the proof of the claim we will need to adapt some parts from the theory of exterior differential systems to the setting of weighted differential operators.

Pushing down the Rumin complex to conformally symplectic quotients

Given a contact manifold $M_#$ together with a transversal infinitesimal automorphism $ξ$, we show that any local leaf space $M$ for the foliation determined by $ξ$ naturally carries a conformally symplectic (cs-) structure. Then we show that the Rumin complex on $M_#$ descends to a complex of differential operators on $M$, whose cohomology can be computed. Applying this construction locally, one obtains a complex intrinsically associated to any manifold endowed with a cs-structure, which recovers the generalization of the so-called Rumin-Seshadri complex to the conformally symplectic setting. The cohomology of this more general complex can be computed using the push-down construction.

k-Dirac operator and Cartan-Kahler theorem

We apply the Cartan-Kahler theorem for the k-Dirac operator studied in Clifford analysis and to the parabolic version of this operator. We show that for k = 2 the tableaux of the first prolongations of these two operators are involutive. This gives us a new characterization of the set of initial conditions for the 2-Dirac operator.
