Universal Coding for Lossless and Lossy Complementary Delivery Problems

This paper deals with a coding problem called complementary delivery, where messages from two correlated sources are jointly encoded and each decoder reproduces one of two messages using the other message as the side information. Both lossless and lossy universal complementary delivery coding schemes are investigated. In the lossless case, it is demonstrated that a universal complementary delivery code can be constructed by only combining two Slepian-Wolf codes. Especially, it is shown that a universal lossless complementary delivery code, for which error probability is exponentially tight, can be constructed from two linear Slepian-Wolf codes. In the lossy case, a universal complementary delivery coding scheme based on Wyner-Ziv codes is proposed. While the proposed scheme cannot attain the optimal rate-distortion trade-off in general, the rate-loss is upper bounded by a universal constant under some mild conditions. The proposed schemes allows us to apply any Slepian-Wolf and Wyner-Ziv codes to complementary delivery coding.

Universal source coding over generalized complementary delivery networks

This paper deals with a universal coding problem for a certain kind of multiterminal source coding network called a generalized complementary delivery network. In this network, messages from multiple correlated sources are jointly encoded, and each decoder has access to some of the messages to enable it to reproduce the other messages. Both fixed-to-fixed length and fixed-to-variable length lossless coding schemes are considered. Explicit constructions of universal codes and the bounds of the error probabilities are clarified by using methods of types and graph-theoretical analysis.

Universal coding for correlated sources with complementary delivery

This paper deals with a universal coding problem for a certain kind of multiterminal source coding system that we call the complementary delivery coding system. In this system, messages from two correlated sources are jointly encoded, and each decoder has access to one of the two messages to enable it to reproduce the other message. Both fixed-to-fixed length and fixed-to-variable length lossless coding schemes are considered. Explicit constructions of universal codes and bounds of the error probabilities are clarified via type-theoretical and graph-theoretical analyses. Key rate of quantum key distribution with hashed two-way classical communication

We propose an information reconciliation protocol that uses two-way classical communication. In the case of the BB84 protocol and the six-state protocol, the key rates of the quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols that use our proposed information reconciliation protocol are higher than previously known protocols for wide range of error rates. We also clarify the relation between the proposed protocol and known QKD protocols, and the relation between the proposed protocol and entanglement distillation protocols (EDPs).

Security of quantum key distribution protocol with two-way classical communication assisted by one-time pad encryption

In this paper, we consider a quantum key distribution protocol (QKD) with two-way classical communication that is assisted by one-time pad encryption. We propose a two-way preprocessing that uses one-time pad encryption by previously shared secret key, and the net key rate of the QKD with proposed preprocessing exceeds the key rate of the QKD without it. The preprocessing is reduced to the entanglement distillation protocol with two-way classical communication and previously shared EPR pairs (two-way breeding protocol), and the security of QKD with the preprocessing is guaranteed in the same way as Shor and Preskill's arguments.

Primal-dual distance bounds of linear codes with application to cryptography

Let $N(d,d^\perp)$ denote the minimum length $n$ of a linear code $C$ with $d$ and $d^{\bot}$, where $d$ is the minimum Hamming distance of $C$ and $d^{\bot}$ is the minimum Hamming distance of $C^{\bot}$. In this paper, we show a lower bound and an upper bound on $N(d,d^\perp)$. Further, for small values of $d$ and $d^\perp$, we determine $N(d,d^\perp)$ and give a generator matrix of the optimum linear code. This problem is directly related to the design method of cryptographic Boolean functions suggested by Kurosawa et al.

Improvement of stabilizer based entanglement distillation protocols by encoding operators

This paper presents a method for enumerating all encoding operators in the Clifford group for a given stabilizer. Furthermore, we classify encoding operators into the equivalence classes such that EDPs (Entanglement Distillation Protocol) constructed from encoding operators in the same equivalence class have the same performance. By this classification, for a given parameter, the number of candidates for good EDPs is significantly reduced. As a result, we find the best EDP among EDPs constructed from [[4,2]] stabilizer codes. This EDP has a better performance than previously known EDPs over wide range of fidelity.

Noise Tolerance of the BB84 Protocol with Random Privacy Amplification

We prove that BB84 protocol with random privacy amplification is secure with a higher key rate than Mayers' estimate with the same error rate. Consequently, the tolerable error rate of this protocol is increased from 7.5 % to 11 %. We also extend this method to the case of estimating error rates separately in each basis, which enables us to securely share a longer key.

Maximum Mutual Information of Space-Time Block Codes with Symbolwise Decodability

In this paper, we analyze the performance of space-time block codes which enable symbolwise maximum likelihood decoding. We derive an upper bound of maximum mutual information (MMI) on space-time block codes that enable symbolwise maximum likelihood decoding for a frequency non-selective quasi-static fading channel. MMI is an upper bound on how much one can send information with vanishing error probability by using the target code.

Lower bound for the quantum capacity of a discrete memoryless quantum channel

We generalize the random coding argument of stabilizer codes and derive a lower bound on the quantum capacity of an arbitrary discrete memoryless quantum channel. For the depolarizing channel, our lower bound coincides with that obtained by Bennett et al. We also slightly improve the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov bound for general stabilizer codes, and establish an analogue of the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov bound for linear stabilizer codes. Our proof is restricted to the binary quantum channels, but its extension of to l-adic channels is straightforward.
