Consistent description for cluster dynamics and single-particle correlation

Cluster dynamics and single-particle correlation are simultaneously treated for the description of the ground state of ${}^{12} \mathrm{C} $. The recent development of the antisymmetrized quasi cluster model (AQCM) makes it possible to generate $jj$-coupling shell-model wave functions from $α$ clusters models. The cluster dynamics and the competition with the $jj$-coupling shell-model structure can be estimated rather easily. In the present study, we further include the effect of single-particle excitation; the mixing of the two-particle-two-hole excited states is considered. The single-particle excitation is not always taken into account in the standard cluster model analyses, and the two-particle-two-hole states are found to strongly contribute to the lowering of the ground state owing to the pairing-like correlations. By extending AQCM, all of the basis states are prepared on the same footing, and they are superposed based on the framework of the generator coordinate method (GCM).

Relativistic density functional theory with finite-light-speed correction for the Coulomb interaction: a non-relativistic-reduction based approach

The Breit correction, the finite-light-speed correction for the Coulomb interaction of the electron-electron interaction in $ O \left( 1/ c^2 \right) $, is introduced to density functional theory (DFT) based on the non-relativistic reduction with the local density approximation. Using this newly developed relativistic DFT, it is found that the possible outer-most electron of lawrencium atom is the $ p $ orbital instead of the $ d $ orbital, which is consistent with the previous calculations based on wave-function theory. A possible explanation of the anomalous behavior of its first ionization energy is also given. This DFT scheme provides a practical calculation method for the study of properties of super-heavy elements.

Dirac Fermion kinetics in three-dimensionally curved graphene

Three dimensionally curved graphene with a wide range of curvature radii from 25 nm to 1000 nm demonstrates that nano-scale curvature is a new degree of freedom to tune the transport properties of graphene by manipulating 2D electron kinetics on 3D curved surfaces.

Effects of finite nucleon size, vacuum polarization, and electromagnetic spin-orbit interaction on nuclear binding energies and radii in spherical nuclei

The electromagnetic effects of the finite size of the nucleon are implemented self-consistently on top of the Skyrme Hartree-Fock calculation, where the electric form factors of both protons and neutrons are considered. Furthermore, the vacuum polarization and the electromagnetic spin-orbit interaction are taken into account. The self-consistent finite-size effects give a different Coulomb potential from the conventional one and affect the neutrons as well. The contribution of the finite-size effects to the total energy reaches $ 7 \, \mathrm{MeV} $ in $ {}^{208} \mathrm{Pb} $. The vacuum polarization and the electromagnetic spin-orbit interaction are also non-negligible, especially in the heavy nuclei. These effects provide a comparable contribution of the total energy to that of the isospin symmetry-breaking terms of the nuclear interaction. The mirror nuclei mass difference in $ {}^{48} \mathrm{Ca} $--$ {}^{48} \mathrm{Ni} $ is also studied, and its value is improved by approximately one order of magnitude.

Improvement of functionals in density functional theory by the inverse Kohn--Sham method and density functional perturbation theory

We propose a way to improve energy density functionals (EDFs) in the density functional theory based on the combination of the inverse Kohn--Sham method and the density functional perturbation theory. Difference between the known EDF and the exact one is treated as the first-order perturbation. As benchmark calculations, we reproduce the theoretical exchange and correlation functionals in the local density approximation. Systems of noble-gas atoms are used for benchmark calculations, and the ground-state energies and densities, as well as the functionals, are reproduced with good accuracies.

Theoretical study of $ \rm{Nb} $ isotope productions by muon capture reaction on $ {}^{100} \rm{Mo} $

The isotope $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $, the generator of $ {}^{99m} \rm{Tc} $ used for diagnostic imaging, is supplied by extracting from fission fragments of highly enriched uranium in reactors. However, a reactor-free production method of $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ is searched over the world from the point of view of nuclear proliferation. Recently, $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ production through a muon capture reaction was proposed and it was found that about $ 50 \, \% $ of $ {}^{100} \rm{Mo} $ turned into $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ through $ {}^{100} \rm{Mo} \left( μ^-, n \right) $ reaction [arXiv:1908.08166]. However, the detailed physical process of the muon capture reaction is not completely understood. We, therefore, study the muon capture reaction of $ ^{100} \rm{Mo} $ by a theoretical approach. We used the proton-neutron QRPA to calculate the muon capture rate. The muon wave function is calculated with considering the electronic distribution of the atom and the nuclear charge distribution. The particle evaporation process from the daughter nucleus is calculated by a statistical model. From the model calculation, about $ 38 \, \% $ of $ {}^{100} \rm{Mo} $ is converted to $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ through the muon capture reaction, which is in a reasonable agreement with the experimental data. It is revealed that negative parity states, especially $ 1^- $ state, play an important role in $ {}^{100} \rm{Mo} \left( μ^-, n \right) {}^{99} \rm{Nb} $. The feasibility of $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ production by the muon capture reaction is also discussed. Isotope production by the muon capture reaction strongly depends on the nuclear structure.

Coulomb Energy Density Functionals for Nuclear Systems: Recent Studies of Coulomb Exchange and Correlation Functionals

The Coulomb exchange and correlation energy density functionals for electron systems are applied to nuclear systems. It is found that the exchange functionals in the generalized gradient approximation provide agreements with the exact-Fock energy with one adjustable parameter within a few dozen $ \mathrm{keV} $ accuracy, whereas the correlation functionals are not directly applicable to nuclear systems due to the existence of the nuclear force.

Coulomb exchange functional with generalized gradient approximation for self-consistent Skyrme Hartree-Fock calculations

We perform the self-consistent Skyrme Hartree-Fock calculation with the Coulomb exchange functional in the form of generalized gradient approximation (GGA). It is found that the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof GGA (PBE-GGA) Coulomb exchange functional is able to reproduce the exact-Fock energy for the nuclei in a large region of the nuclear chart with one adjustable parameter. The remaining error of Coulomb exchange energy by the GGA with respect to the exact-Fock energy dominantly comes from the functional-driven error.

Functional-renormalization-group aided density-functional analysis for the correlation energy of the two-dimensional homogeneous electron gas

The functional-renormalization-group aided density-functional theory (FRG-DFT) is applied to the two-dimensional homogeneous electron gas (2DHEG). The correlation energy of the 2DHEG is derived as a function of the Wigner-Seitz radius $ r_{\rm s} $ directly. We find that our correlation energy completely reproduces the exact behavior at the high-density limit. For finite density, the result of FRG-DFT shows good agreement with the Monte Carlo (MC) results in the high-density region, although the discrepancy between FRG-DFT and MC results becomes larger as the system becomes more dilute. Our study is the first example in which the FRG-DFT is applied to more-than-one-dimensional models, and shows that the FRG-DFT is a feasible and promising method even for the analysis of realistic models for quantum many-body systems.

Application of Coulomb energy density functional for atomic nuclei: Case studies of local density approximation and generalized gradient approximation

We test the Coulomb exchange and correlation energy density functionals of electron systems for atomic nuclei in the local density approximation (LDA) and the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). For the exchange Coulomb energies, it is found that the deviation between the LDA and GGA ranges from around $ 11 \, \% $ in $ {}^{4} \mathrm{He} $ to around $ 2.2 \, \% $ in $ {}^{208} \mathrm{Pb} $, by taking the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE) functional as an example of the GGA\@. For the correlation Coulomb energies, it is shown that those functionals of electron systems are not suitable for atomic nuclei.
