High Energy Particle Production from Proton Synchrotron Radiation in Strong Magnetic Fields in Relativistic Quantum Field Theory

We investigate photon, pion, and rho-meson production from proton synchrotron radiation in the presence of strong magnetic fields. The proton decay widths and the luminosities of the emitted particles are calculated within a relativistic quantum framework that incorporates Landau quantization. A scaling rule is derived for the transition probability between different Landau levels. This allows an evaluation of transitions for extremely high Landau numbers exceeding $10^{15}$. Furthermore, we calculate the momentum distribution of the emitted particles by properly including the proton recoil effect associated with particle emission. The results differ significantly from conventional semiclassical approaches.

Axial-Vector and Tensor Spin Polarization and Chiral Restoration in Quark Matter

We study spontaneous spin-polarizations of quark matter with flavour $SU(2)$ symmetry at zero temperature in the NJL model. In a relativistic framework, there are two types of the spin-spin interactions: axial-vector (AV) and tensor (T), which accordingly give rise to different types of spin-polarized materials. When the spin-spin interaction is sufficiently strong, the spin-polarized phase emerges within a specific density region. As the spin-spin interaction becomes stronger, this phase extends over higher density region beyond the critical density of chiral restoration in normal quark matter. We show that the spin-polarized phase leads to another kind of the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking phase.

Photon vortex generation from nonlinear Compton scattering in Feynman approach

In the present study, we show calculation of nonlinear Compton scattering with circularly polarized photons in a cylindrical coordinate using Feynman diagram to calculate photon vortex generation in intermediate states considering conservation of angular momentum. We take two different vortex wave functions based on Bessel function for the emitted photon and the electron after emission of the photon, which are the eigenstate of z component of the total angular momentum (zTAM) when a particle propagates along z axis. The result shows that when an electron absorbs N photons a photon vortex with a zTAM = N is predominantly radiated, but there are still very small contributions of photons with a zTAM = (N-1) and (N +1) due to the spin flip of the initial electron. This means even when an electron absorbs only a single photon, the electron may emit a photon vortex of a zTAM of 2 h-bar. However, the numerical calculations show that the contribution of the spin flip is four orders of magnitude smaller than that of the dominant radiation. We also discuss the circular polarization for the generated photon vortices.

A Poincaré covariant cascade method for high-energy nuclear collisions

We present a Poincaré covariant cascade algorithm based on the constrained Hamiltonian dynamics in an $8N$-dimensional phase space to simulate the Boltzmann-type two-body collision term. We compare this covariant cascade algorithm with traditional $6N$-dimensional phase-space cascade algorithms. To validate the covariant cascade algorithm, we perform box calculations. We examine the frame dependence of the algorithm in a one-dimensionally expanding system as well as the compression stages of colliding two nuclei. We confirm that our covariant cascade method is reliable to simulate high-energy nuclear collisions. Furthermore, we present Lorentz-covariant equations of motion for the $N$-body system interacting via potentials, which can be efficiently solved numerically.

Effects of electromagnetic fluctuations in plasmas on solar neutrino fluxes

We explore the effects of electromagnetic (EM) fluctuations in plasmas on solar neutrino fluxes exploiting the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. We find that the EM spectrum in the solar core is enhanced by the EM fluctuations due to the high density of the Sun, which increases the radiation energy density and pressure. By the EM fluctuations involving the modified radiation formula, the central temperature decreases when the central pressure of the Sun is fixed. With a help of the empirical relation between central temperature and neutrino fluxes deduced from the numerical solar models, we present the change in each of the solar neutrino fluxes by the EM fluctuations. We also discuss the enhanced radiation pressure and energy density by the EM fluctuations for other astronomical objects.

Photon vortex generation in quantum level by high-order harmonic synchrotron radiations from spiral moving electrons in magnetic fields

We explore photon vortex generation in synchrotron radiations from a spiral moving electron under a uniform magnetic field along z-axis using Landau quantization. The obtained wave-function of the photon vortecies is the eigen-state of the z-component of the total angular momentum (zTAM). In m-th harmonic radiations, individual photons are the eigen-state of zTAM of m. This is consistent with previous studies. Using the presently obtained wave-functions we calculate the decay widths and the energy spectra under extremely strong magnetic fields of 10^12 - 10^13 G, which are observed in astrophysical objects such as magnetized neutron stars and jets and accretion disks around black holes. The result suggests that photon vortices are predominantly generated in such objects. Although they have no coherency it is expected that photon vortices from the universe are measured using a detector based upon a quantum effect in future. This effect also affects to stellar nucleosynthesis in strong magnetic fields.

A Relativistic Quantum Approach to Neutrino and Antineutrino Emissions via the Direct Urca Process in Strongly Magnetized Neutron-Star Matter

We study neutrino and antineutrino emission from the direct Urca process in neutron-star matter in the presence of strong magnetic fields. We calculate the neutrino emissivity of the direct Urca process, whereby a neutron converts to a proton, an electron and an antineutrino, or a proton-electron pair converts to a neutron-neutrino pair. We solve exact wave functions for protons and electrons in the states described with Landau levels. We find that the direct Urca process can satisfy the kinematic constraints even in density regions where this process could not normally occur in the absence of a magnetic field.

Dynamical Screening Effects on Big Bang Nucleosynthesis

A moving ion in plasma creates a deformed electric potential depending on the ion velocity, which leads to the distinct screening effect compared to the standard static Salpeter formula. In this paper, adopting the test charge method, we explore the dynamical screening effects on big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). We find that the high temperature in the early universe causes the ion velocity to be faster than the solar condition so that the electric potential is effectively polarized. However, the low density of background plasma components significantly suppresses the dynamical screening effects on thermonuclear reaction rates during the BBN epoch. We compare our results with several thermonuclear reaction rates for solar fusion considering the dynamical screening effects. Also, we discuss the additional plasma properties in other astrophysical sites for the possible expansion from the present calculation in the future.

Relativistic Mean-Field Treatment of Pulsar Kick from Neutrino Propagation in Magnetized Proto-Neutron

We make a perturbative calculation of neutrino scattering and absorption in hot and dense hyperonic neutron-star matter in the presence of a strong magnetic Field. We calculate that the absorption cross-sections in a fully relativistic mean-field theory. We find that there is a remarkable angular dependence, i.e. the neutrino absorption strength is reduced in a direction parallel to the magnetic Field and enhanced in the opposite direction. This asymmetry in the neutrino absorption is estimated to be as much as 2.2 % of the entire neutrino momentum for an interior magnetic Field of 2 x 10^{17} G. The pulsar kick velocities associated with this asymmetry are shown to be comparable to observed velocities.

Origin of the Strong Toroidal Magnetic Field in Magnetars

A simple model of chiral asymmetry is proposed to interpret the origin of the strong toroidal magnetic field. The electrons relevant to dynamics forming the the field are in a quantume degenerate state with ultra-relativistic Fermi energy. The system is described by Dirac Hartree Fock method using scaled h-bar method. Neutron stars are rotating and have large angular momentum which is formed by cranking model and breaks time reversal. Dirac current is decomposed into convection and spin currents due to Clifford number. The strong toroidal magnetic field is formed by the spin like current resulted by the chiral asymmetry brought about electron capture caused by the parity-violating weak interaction.

Momentum-dependent potential and collective flows within the relativistic quantum molecular dynamics approach based on relativistic mean-field theory

Relativistic quantum molecular dynamics based on the relativistic mean field theory (RQMD.RMF) is extended by including momentum-dependent potential. The equation of state (EoS) dependence of the directed and the elliptic flow of protons in the beam energy range of $2.3 < \sqrt{s_{NN}}< 20$ GeV is examined. It is found that the directed flow depends strongly on the optical potential at high energies,$\sqrt{s_{NN}} > 3 $ GeV, where no information is available experimentally. The correlation between effective mass at saturation density and the optical potential is found: smaller values of effective mass require smaller strengths of the optical potential to describe the directed flow data. This correlation can also be seen in the beam energy dependence of the elliptic flow at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}>3$ GeV, although its effect is rather weak. On the other hand, stiff EoS is required to describe the elliptic flow at lower energies.Experimental constraints on the optical potential from $pA$ collisions will provide important information on the EoS at high energies. The proton directed and the elliptic flow are well described in the RQMD.RMF model from $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.3$ to 8.8 GeV. In contrast,to reproduce the collapse of the directed flow above 10 GeV, pressure has to be reduced, which indicates a softening of the EoS around $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =10 $ GeV.

Fock contributions to nuclear symmetry energy and its slope parameter based on Lorentz-covariant decomposition of nucleon self-energies

Using relativistic Hartree-Fock (RHF) approximation, we study the effect of Fock terms on the nuclear properties not only around the saturation density, $ρ_{0}$, but also at higher densities. In particular, we investigate how the momentum dependence due to the exchange contribution affects the nuclear symmetry energy and its slope parameter, using the Lorentz-covariant decomposition of nucleon self-energies in an extended version of the RHF model, in which the exchange terms are adjusted so as to reproduce the single-nucleon potential at $ρ_{0}$. We find that the Fock contribution suppresses the kinetic term of nuclear symmetry energy at the densities around and beyond $ρ_{0}$. It is noticeable that not only the isovector-vector ($ρ$) meson but also the isoscalar mesons ($σ, ω$) and pion make significant influence on the potential term of nuclear symmetry energy through the exchange diagrams. Furthermore, the exchange contribution prevents the slope parameter from increasing monotonically at high densities.

Compton Scattering of Hermite Gaussian Wave Gamma-Ray

We calculate the differential cross sections for Compton scattering of photons described by Hermite Gaussian (HG) wave function in the framework of relativistic quantum mechanics. The HG wave gamma-rays propagating along the z-direction have quantum numbers of nodes of nx and ny in the x- and y-directions, respectively. The calculated differential cross section is symmetric with respect to both the zx- and zy-planes. The nodes whose number is identical with nx and ny appear in the energy spectrum measured in zx- and zy-planes, respectively. These results indicate that it is possible to identify the HG wave photon and its quantum numbers nx and ny by measuring Compton scattering. The present proposed method can be also applied to gamma-ray astronomy.

Spin polarized phases in strongly interacting matter: interplay between axial-vector and tensor mean fields

The spontaneous spin polarization of strongly interacting matter due to axial-vector and tensor type interactions is studied at zero temperature and high baryon-number densities. We start with the mean-field Lagrangian for the axial-vector and tensor interaction channels, and find in the chiral limit that the spin polarization due to the tensor mean field ($U$) takes place first as the density increases for sufficiently strong coupling constants, and then that due to the axial-vector mean field ($A$) emerges in the region of finite tensor mean field. This can be understood that making the axial-vector mean field finite requires a broken chiral symmetry somehow, which is achieved by the finite tensor mean field in the present case. It is also found from symmetry argument that there appear the type I (II) Nambu-Goldstone modes with a linear (quadratic) dispersion in the spin polarized phase with $U\neq0$ and $A=0$ ($U\neq0$ and $A\neq0$), although these two phases exhibit the same symmetry breaking pattern.

Compton Scattering of Gamma-Ray Vortex with Laguerre Gaussian Wave Function

In this work, we report calculation for Compton scattering of a gamma-ray vortex with Laguerre Gaussian wave function on an electron in the framework of the relativistic quantum mechanics. We have found the following unexpected feature. The momentum of scattered photon distributes outside of the reaction plane determined by the incident photon and the scattered electron, and hence the energy of the scattered photon also distributes. This novel result indicates that one can identify a gamma-ray vortex by measuring coincidentally the scattered angles of the electron and photon.

Axion Production from Landau Quantization in the Strong Magnetic Field of Magnetars

We utilize an exact quantum calculation to explore axion emission from electrons and protons in the presence of the strong magnetic field of magnetars. The axion is emitted via transitions between the Landau levels generated by the strong magnetic field. The luminosity of axions emitted by protons is shown to be much larger than that of electrons and becomes stronger with increasing matter density. Cooling by axion emission is shown to be much larger than neutrino cooling by the Urca processes. Consequently, axion emission in the crust may significantly contribute to the cooling of magnetars. In the high-density core, however, it may cause heating of the magnetar.

Spontaneous Spin Polarization due to Tensor Selfenergies in Quark Matter

We study the magnetic properties of quark matter in the NJL model with the tensor interaction. The spin-polarized phase given by the tensor interaction remains even when the quark mass is zero, while the phase given by the axial vector interaction disappears. There are two kinds of spin-polarized phases: one appears in the chiral-broken phase, and the other appears in the chiral-restored phase where the quark mass is zero. The latter phase can appear independently of the strength of the tensor interaction.

Pion Production via Proton Synchrotron Radiation in Strong Magnetic Fields in Relativistic Field Theory: Scaling Relations and Angular Distributions

We study pion production by proton synchrotron radiation in the presence of a strong magnetic field when the Landau numbers of the initial and final protons are $n_{i,f} \sim 10^4 - 10^5$. We find in our relativistic field theory calculations that the pion decay width depends only on the field strength parameter which previously was only conjectured based upon semi-classical arguments. Moreover, we also find new results that the decay width satisfies a robust scaling relation, and that the polar angular distribution of emitted pion momenta is very narrow and can be easily obtained. This scaling implies that one can infer the decay width in more realistic magnetic fields of $10^{15}$G, where $n_{i,f} \sim 10^{12} - 10^{13}$, from the results for $n_{i,f} \sim 10^4 - 10^5$. The resultant pion intensity and angular distributions for realistic magnetic field strengths are presented and their physical implications discussed.
