Analysis of the (N,xN') reactions by quantum molecular dynamics plus statistical decay model

We propose a model based on quantum molecular dynamics (QMD) incorporated with statistical decay model (SDM) to describe various nuclear reactions in an unified way. In this first part of the work, the basic ingredients of the model are defined and the model is applied systematically to the nucleon($N$)-induced reactions. It has been found that our model can give a remarkable agreement in the energy-angle double differential cross sections of $(N,xN')$ type reactions for incident energies from 100 MeV to 3 GeV with a fixed parameter set. An unified description of the major three reaction mechanisms of $(N,xN')$ reactions, i.e. compound, pre-equilibrium and spallation processes, is given with our model.

Multifragmentation in alpha(5GeV/u) + Au Reactions

We simulate the fragmentation processes in the \alAu collisions at the bombarding energy 5 GeV/u using the simplified RQMD approach. The statistical decay calculation is connected to obtain the final state. >From the simulation we find that the residual nucleus created by this collision has a annular eclipse shape, and then expands more strongly to the transverse direction than to the beam-direction. Then the angular-distribution of the intermediate mass fragments has a sideward peak; this result explains the experimental result.

Delta degrees of freedom in antisymmetrized molecular dynamics and (p,p') reactions in the delta region

Delta degrees of freedom are introduced into antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD). This is done by increasing the number of basic states in the AMD wave function, introducing a Skyrme-type delta-nucleon potential, and including $NN\leftrightarrow NΔ$ reactions in the collision description. As a test of the delta dynamics, the extended AMD is applied to (p,p$'$) recations at $E_{\rm lab}=800$ MeV for a $^{12}$C target. It is found that the ratio and the absolute values for delta peak and quasielastic peak (QEP) in the $^{12}$C(p,p$'$) reaction are reproduced for angles $Θ_{\rm lab} \agt 40^\circ$, pointing to a correct treatment of the delta dynamics in the extended AMD. For forward angles the QEP is overestimated. The results of the AMD calculations are compared to one-step Monte Carlo (OSMC) calculations and a detailed analysis of multi-step and delta potential effects is given. As important side results we present a way to apply a Gallilei invariant theory for (N,N$'$) reactions up to $E_{\rm lab} \approx 800$ MeV which ensures approximate Lorentz invariance and we discuss how to fix the width parameter $ν$ of the single particle momentum distribution for outgoing nucleons in the AMD calculation.

Proton inelastic scattering to continuum studied with antisymmetrized molecular dynamics

Intermediate energy (p,p$'$x) reaction is studied with antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) in the cases of $^{58}$Ni target with $E_p = 120$ MeV and $^{12}$C target with $E_p = $ 200 and 90 MeV. Angular distributions for various $E_{p'}$ energies are shown to be reproduced well without any adjustable parameter, which shows the reliability and usefulness of AMD in describing light-ion reactions. Detailed analyses of the calculations are made in the case of $^{58}$Ni target and following results are obtained: Two-step contributions are found to be dominant in some large angle region and to be indispensable for the reproduction of data. Furthermore the reproduction of data in the large angle region $θ\agt 120^\circ$ for $E_{p'}$ = 100 MeV is shown to be due to three-step contributions. Angular distributions for $E_{p'} \agt$ 40 MeV are found to be insensitive to the choice of different in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections $σ_{NN}$ and the reason of this insensitivity is discussed in detail. On the other hand, the total reaction cross section and the cross section of evaporated protons are found to be sensitive to $σ_{NN}$. In the course of the analyses of the calculations, comparison is made with the distorted wave approach.

Analysis of Subthreshold Antiproton Production in p-Nucleus and Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions in the RBUU Approach

We calculate the subthreshold production of antiprotons in the Lorentz-covariant RBUU approach employing a weighted testparticle method to treat the antiproton propagation and absorption nonperturbatively. We find that the pbar differential cross sections are highly sensitive to the baryon and antiproton selfenergies in the dense baryonic environment. Adopting the baryon scalar and vector selfenergies from the empirical optical potential for proton-nucleus elastic scattering and from Dirac-Brueckner calculations at higher density rho > rho_0 we examine the differential pbar spectra as a function of the antiproton selfenergy. A detailed comparison with the available experimental data for p-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus reactions shows that the antiproton feels a moderately attractive mean-field at normal nuclear matter density rho_0 which is in line with a dispersive potential extracted from the free annihilation cross section.

Study of High Energy Heavy-Ion Collisions in a Relativistic BUU-Approach with Momentum-Dependent Mean-Fields

We introduce momentum-dependent scalar and vector fields into the Lorentz covariant relativistic BUU- (RBUU-) approach employing a polynomial ansatz for the relativistic nucleon-nucleon interaction. The momentum-dependent parametrizations are shown to be valid up to about 1 GeV/u for the empirical proton-nucleus optical potential. We perform numerical simulations for heavy-ion collisions within the RBUU-approach adopting momentum-dependent and momentum-independent mean-fields and calculate the transverse flow in and perpendicular to the reaction plane, the directivity distribution as well as subthreshold K+-production. By means of these observables we discuss the particular role of the momentum-dependent forces and their implications on the nuclear equation of state. We find that only a momentum-dependent parameter-set can explain the experimental data on the transverse flow in the reaction plane from 150 - 1000 MeV/u and the differential K+-production cross sections at 1 GeV/u at the same time.

Antiproton Production in p-Nucleus and Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions within a Relativistic Transport Approach

The production of antiprotons in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus reactions is calculated within the relativistic BUU approach employing proper selfenergies for the baryons and antiprotons and treating the p-bar annihilation nonperturbatively. The differential cross section for the antiprotons is found to be very sensitive to the p-bar selfenergy adopted. A detailed comparison with the available experimental data for p-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus reactions shows that the antiproton feels a moderately attractive mean-field at normal nuclear matter density which is in line with a dispersive potential extracted from the free annihilation cross section.
