Fluctuation of the Hubble parameter

We study the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ in perturbed Friedmann universe and obtain an expression of the perturbed Hubble parameter $H(z,\textbf{n})$. We derive the Hubble parameter power spectrum by using the initial spectrum during inflation and the Bardeen transfer function. We obtain a semi-analytical expression in the case of cold dark matter (CDM) universe. Similar with luminosity distance, the Hubble parameter spectrum is suggested to be an useful observational tool to determine some cosmological parameters. In addition, we show that the Hubble parameter power spectrum could be used to check whether the expansion is accelerated by the second order small scale fluctuation.

Breaking through the high redshift bottleneck of Observational Hubble parameter Data: The Sandage-Loeb signal Scheme

We propose a valid scheme to measure the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ at high redshifts by detecting the Sandage-Loeb signal (SL signal) which can be realized by the next generation extremely large telescope. It will largely extend the current observational Hubble parameter data (OHD) towards the redshift region of $z \in [2.0,5.0]$, the so-called "redshift desert", where other dark energy probes are hard to provide useful information of the cosmic expansion. Quantifying the ability of this future measurement by simulating observational data for a CODEX (COsmic Dynamics and EXo-earth experiment)-like survey and constraining various cosmological models, we find that the SL signal scheme brings the redshift upper-limit of OHD from $z_\mathrm{max}=2.3$ to $z_\mathrm{max}\simeq 5.0$, provides more accurate constraints on different dark energy models, and greatly changes the degeneracy direction of the parameters. For the $Λ$CDM case, the accuracy of $Ω_m$ is improved by $58\%$ and the degeneracy between $Ω_m$ and $Ω_ Λ$ is rotated to the vertical direction of $Ω_k = 0$ line strongly; for the $w$CDM case, the accuracy of $w$ is improved by $15\%$. The Fisher matrix forecast on different time-dependent $w(z)$ is also performed.

Method for Direct Measurement of Cosmic Acceleration by 21-cm Absorption Systems

So far there is only indirect evidence that the Universe is undergoing an accelerated expansion. The evidence for cosmic acceleration is based on the observation of different objects at different distances, and requires invoking the Copernican cosmological principle, and Einstein's equations of motion. We examine the direct observability using recession velocity drifts (Sandage-Loeb effect) of 21cm hydrogen absorption systems in upcoming radio surveys. This measures the change in velocity of the {\it same} objects separate by a time interval and is a model-independent measure of acceleration. We forecast that for a CHIME-like survey with a decade time span, we can detect the acceleration of a $Λ$CDM Universe with $5σ$ confidence. This acceleration test requires modest data analysis and storage changes from the normal processing, and cannot be recovered retroactively.

Model-independent determination of curvature parameter by using $H(z)$ and $D_A(z)$ data pair from BAO measurement

We present a model-independent determination of the curvature parameter $Ω_k$ by using the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ and angular diameter distance $D_A(z)$ from the recent baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) measurements. Each $H(z)$ and $D_A(z)$ pair from a BAO measurement can constrain a curvature parameter. The accuracy of the curvature measurement improves with increased redshift of $H(z)$ and $D_A(z)$ data. By using the $H(z)$ and $D_A(z)$ pair derived from BAO Lyman $α$ forest measurement at $z=2.36$, the $Ω_k$ is confined to be -0.05$\pm$0.06, which is consistent with the curvature $-0.037^{+0.044}_{-0.042}$ constrained by the nine-year WMAP data only. Considering future BAO meausurements, at least one order of magnitude improvement of this curvature measurement could be expected.

Four New Observational $H(z)$ Data From Luminous Red Galaxies of Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release Seven

By adopting the differential age method, we utilize selected 17832 luminous red galaxies (LRGs) from Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release Seven (SDSS DR7) covering redshift $0<z<0.4$ to measure Hubble parameters. Using a full spectrum fitting package UlySS, these spectra are reduced with single stellar population (SSP) models and optimal age information of our selected sample are derived. With the decreasing age-redshift relation, four new observational $H(z)$ data (OHD) points are obtained, which are $H(z)=69.0\pm19.6$ km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$ at $z=0.07$, $H(z)=68.6\pm26.2$ km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$ at $z=0.12$, $H(z)$=$72.9\pm29.6$ km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$ at $z=0.2$ and $H(z)$=$88.8\pm36.6$ km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$ at $z=0.28$, respectively. Combined with other 21 available OHD data points, a performance of constraint on both flat and non-flat $Λ$CDM model is presented.

Distinguishing between inhomogeneous model and $Λ\textrm{CDM}$ model with the cosmic age method

Cosmological observables could be used to construct cosmological models, however, a fixed number of observables limited on the light cone is not enough to uniquely determine a certain model. A reconstructed spherically symmetric, inhomogeneous model that share the same angular-diameter-distance-redshift relationship $d_A(z)$ and Hubble parameter $H(z)$ besides $Λ\textrm{CDM}$ model (which we call LTB-$Λ\textrm{CDM}$ model in this paper), may provide another solution. Cosmic age, which is off the light cone, could be employed to distinguish these two models. We derive the formulae for age calculation with origin conditions. From the data given by 9-year WMAP measurement, we compute the likelihood of the parameters in these two models respectively by using the Distance Prior method and do likelihood analysis by generating Monte Carlo Markov Chain for the purpose of breaking the degeneracy of $Ω_m$ and $H_0$ (the parameters that we use for calculation). The results yield to be: $t_{Λ\textrm{CDM}} =13.76 \pm 0.09 ~\rm Gyr$, $t_{\rm {LTB}-Λ\textrm{CDM}} =11.38 \pm 0.15 ~\rm Gyr$, both in $1σ$ agreement with the constraint of cosmic age given by metal-deficient stars. The cosmic age method that is set in this paper enables us to distinguish between the inhomogeneous model and $Λ\textrm{CDM}$ model.

Reconstruction and constraining of the jerk parameter from OHD and SNe Ia observations

Compared with the plentiful researches of the Hubble parameter and deceleration factor, the third time derivative of the scale factor $a(t)$ in the FRW cosmology, namely, the jerk parameter $j$ still lacks attention. In order to study the properties of $j$, we propose several kinds of parameterizations of $j(z)$ as a function of the redshift $z$. By setting the standard $Λ$CDM model as the fiducial model, we constrain the jerk models with the observational Hubble parameter data (OHD) and Type Ia Supernovae (SNe) observations. We find that the perturbation of $j(z)$ favors a value of nearly zero and the $Λ$CDM is well accommodated by the jerk reconstruction. We also compare the powers of OHD and SNe in constraining the jerk models in detail, and find that the newly released OHD measurement at $z=2.3$ can improve the constraint significantly, even tighter than the SNe one. Furthermore, we analyze the jerk models by calculating the Hubble parameter, equation of state, the deceleration factor and $Om(z)$ diagnostic. Our results show that the universe is indeed undergoing an accelerated expansion phase following the matter-dominated one, which is consistent with the standard model by observations.

Nonparametric reconstruction of dynamical dark energy via observational Hubble parameter data

We study the power of current and future observational Hubble parameter data (OHD) on non-parametric estimations of the dark energy equation of state, $w(z)$. We propose a new method by conjunction of principal component analysis (PCA) and the criterion of goodness of fit (GoF) criterion to reconstruct $w(z)$, ensuring the sensitivity and reliability of the extraction of features in the EoS. We also give an new error model to simulate future OHD data, to forecast the power of future OHD on the EoS reconstruction. The result shows that current OHD, despite in less quantity, give not only a similar power of reconstruction of dark energy compared to the result given by type Ia supernovae, but also extend the constraint on $w(z)$ up to redshift $z\simeq2$. Additionally, a reasonable forecast of future data in more quantity and better quality greatly enhances the reconstruction of dark energy.

An improved method to test the Distance--Duality relation

Many researchers have performed cosmological-model-independent tests for the distance duality (DD) relation. Theoretical work has been conducted based on the results of these tests. However, we find that almost all of these tests were perhaps not cosmological-model-independent after all, because the distance moduli taken from a given type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) compilation are dependent on a given cosmological model and Hubble constant. In this Letter, we overcome these defects and by creating a new cosmological-model-independent test for the DD relation. We use the original data from the Union2 SNe Ia compilation and the angular diameter distances from two galaxy cluster samples compiled by De Filippis et al. and Bonamente et al. to test the DD relation. Our results suggest that the DD relation is compatible with observations, and the spherical model is slightly better than the elliptical model at describing the intrinsic shape of galaxy clusters if the DD relation is valid. However, these results are different from those of previous work.

Cosmological constraints on holographic dark energy models under the energy conditions

We study the holographic and agegraphic dark energy models without interaction using the latest observational Hubble parameter data (OHD), the Union2.1 compilation of type Ia supernovae (SNIa), and the energy conditions. Scenarios of dark energy are distinguished by the cut-off of cosmic age, conformal time, and event horizon. The best-fit value of matter density for the three scenarios almost steadily located at $Ω_{m0}=0.26$ by the joint constraint. For the agegraphic models, they can be recovered to the standard cosmological model when the constant $c$ which presents the fraction of dark energy approaches to infinity. Absence of upper limit of $c$ by the joint constraint demonstrates the recovery possibility. Using the fitted result, we also reconstruct the current equation of state of dark energy at different scenarios, respectively. Employing the model criteria $χ^2_{\textrm{min}}/dof$, we find that conformal time model is the worst, but they can not be distinguished clearly. Comparing with the observational constraints, we find that SEC is fulfilled at redshift $0.2 \lesssim z \lesssim 0.3$ with $1σ$ confidence level. We also find that NEC gives a meaningful constraint for the event horizon cut-off model, especially compared with OHD only. We note that the energy condition maybe could play an important role in the interacting models because of different degeneracy between $Ω_m$ and constant $c$.

Preliminary Application of Reinsch Splines to Cosmology: Transition Redshift Determination with Simulated OHD

Many schemes have been proposed to perform a model-independent constraint on cosmological dynamics, such as nonparametric dark energy equation of state (EoS) ω(z) or the deceleration parameter q(z). These methods usually contain derivative processes with respect to observational data with noise. However, it still remains remarkably uncertain when one estimates the numerical differentiation, especially the corresponding truncation errors. In this work, we introduce a global numerical differentiation method, first formulated by Reinsch(1967), which is smoothed by cubic spline functions. The optimal solution is obtained by minimizing the functional Φ(f). To investigate the potential of the algorithm further, we apply it to the estimation of the transition redshift z_{t} with simulated expansion rate E(z) based on observational Hubble parameter data(OHD). An effective method to determine the free parameter S appearing in Reinsch Splines is provided.

Bright 22 $μ$m Excess Candidates from WISE All-Sky Catalog and Hipparcos Main Catalog

In this paper we present a catalog which includes 141 bright candidates ($\leq10.27$ mag, V band) showing the infrared (IR) excess at 22 $μ$m. Of which, 38 stars are known IR excess stars or disk, 23 stars are double or multiple stars and 4 are Be stars. While the remaining more than 70 stars are identified as the 22 $μ$m excess candidates in our work. The criterion of selecting candidates is $K_s-[22]_{μm}$. All these candidates are selected from \emph{WISE} All-sky data cross-correlated with \emph{Hipparcos} Main Catalog and the likelihood-ratio technique is employed. Considering the effect of background, we introduce the \emph{IRAS} 100 $μ$m level to exclude the high background. We also estimated the coincidence probability of these sources. In addition, we presented the optical to mid-infrared SEDs and optical images of all the candidates, and gave the observed optical spectra of 6 stars with NAOC's 2.16-m telescope. To measure for the dust amount around each star, the fractional luminosity is also provided. We also test whether our method of selecting IR excess stars can be used to search for extra-solar planets, we cross-matched our catalog with known IR-excess stars having planets but none is matched. Finally, we give the fraction of stars showing IR-excess for different spectral type of main-sequence stars.

Estimations of the cosmological parameters from the observational variation of the fine structure constant

We present the constraints on the Quintessence scalar field model from the observational data of the variation of the fine structure constant obtained from Keck and VLT telescopes. Within the theoretical frame proposed by Bekenstein, the constraints on the parameters of the Quintessence scalar field model are obtained. By the consideration of the prior of $Ω_{m0}$ as WMAP 7 suggests, we obtain various results of the different samples. Based on these results, we also calculate the probability density function of the coupling constant $ζ$. The best-fit values show a consistent relationship between $ζ$ and the different experimental results. In our work, we test two different potential models, namely, the inverse power law potential and the exponential potential. The results show that both the large value of the parameters in the potential and the strong coupling can cause the variation of fine structure constant.

Constraining smoothness parameter and the DD relation of Dyer-Roeder equation with supernovae

Our real universe is locally inhomogeneous. Dyer and Roeder introduced the smoothness parameter $α$ to describe the influence of local inhomogeneity on angular diameter distance, and they obtained the angular diameter distance-redshift approximate relation (Dyer-Roeder equation) for locally inhomogeneous universe. Furthermore, the Distance-Duality (DD) relation, $D_L(z)(1+z)^{-2}/D_A(z)=1$, should be valid for all cosmological models that are described by Riemannian geometry, where $D_L$ and $D_A$ are, respectively, the luminosity and angular distance distances. Therefore, it is necessary to test whether if the Dyer-Roeder approximate equation can satisfy the Distance-Duality relation. In this paper, we use Union2.1 SNe Ia data to constrain the smoothness parameter $α$ and test whether the Dyer-Roeder equation satisfies the DD relation. By using $χ^2$ minimization, we get $α=0.92_{-0.32}^{+0.08}$ at $1σ$ and $0.92_{-0.65}^{+0.08}$ at $2σ$, and our results show that the Dyer-Roeder equation is in good consistency with the DD relation at $1σ$.

Testing X-ray Measurements of Galaxy Cluster Gas Mass Fraction Using the Cosmic Distance-Duality Relation

We propose a consistency test of some recent X-ray gas mass fraction ($f_{\rm{gas}}$) measurements in galaxy clusters, using the cosmic distance-duality relation, $η_{\rm{theory}}=\dl(1+z)^{-2}/\da$, with luminosity distance ($\dl$) data from the Union2 compilation of type Ia supernovae. We set $η_{\rm{theory}}\equiv1$, instead of assigning any redshift parameterizations to it, and constrain the cosmological information preferred by $f_{\rm{gas}}$ data along with supernova observations. We adopt a new binning method in the reduction of the Union2 data, in order to minimize the statistical errors. Four data sets of X-ray gas mass fraction, which are reported by Allen et al. (2 samples), LaRoque et al. and Ettori et al., are detailedly analyzed against two theoretical modelings of $f_{\rm{gas}}$. The results from the analysis of Allen et al.'s samples prove the feasibility of our method. It is found that the preferred cosmology by LaRoque et al.'s sample is consistent with its reference cosmology within 1-$σ$ confidence level. However, for Ettori et al.'s $f_{\rm{gas}}$ sample, the inconsistency can reach more than 3-$σ$ confidence level and this dataset shows special preference to an $\Ol=0$ cosmology.

Observational constraints on cosmic neutrinos and dark energy revisited

Using several cosmological observations, i.e. the cosmic microwave background anisotropies (WMAP), the weak gravitational lensing (CFHTLS), the measurements of baryon acoustic oscillations (SDSS+WiggleZ), the most recent observational Hubble parameter data, the Union2.1 compilation of type Ia supernovae, and the HST prior, we impose constraints on the sum of neutrino masses ($\mnu$), the effective number of neutrino species ($\neff$) and dark energy equation of state ($w$), individually and collectively. We find that a tight upper limit on $\mnu$ can be extracted from the full data combination, if $\neff$ and $w$ are fixed. However this upper bound is severely weakened if $\neff$ and $w$ are allowed to vary. This result naturally raises questions on the robustness of previous strict upper bounds on $\mnu$, ever reported in the literature. The best-fit values from our most generalized constraint read $\mnu=0.556^{+0.231}_{-0.288}\rm eV$, $\neff=3.839\pm0.452$, and $w=-1.058\pm0.088$ at 68% confidence level, which shows a firm lower limit on total neutrino mass, favors an extra light degree of freedom, and supports the cosmological constant model. The current weak lensing data are already helpful in constraining cosmological model parameters for fixed $w$. The dataset of Hubble parameter gains numerous advantages over supernovae when $w=-1$, particularly its illuminating power in constraining $\neff$. As long as $w$ is included as a free parameter, it is still the standardizable candles of type Ia supernovae that play the most dominant role in the parameter constraints.

Cosmic Duality and Statefinder Diagnosis of Spinor Quintom

In this paper, we study the possible connections among different Spinor Quintom Dark Energy (DE) models by the aid of duality. Then we apply the statefinder diagnostic to these models. By this diagnostic pair {$\{r,s\}$}, we differentiate one Quintom DE model from the others in a model independent manner. A class of evolutionary trajectories of these Spinor Quintom models are presented in the statefinder parameter planes. We also obtain the current locations of the parameters $r$ and $s$, and these locations correspond to different models in statefinder parameter planes theoretically.

A Series Solution to the Luminosity Distance in a Flat LCDM Universe

Cosmological observations indicate that our universe is flat and dark energy (DE) dominated at present. The luminosity distance plays an important role in the investigation of the evolution and structure of the universe. Nevertheless, the evaluation of the luminosity distance d_L is associated computationally heavy numerical quadratures in practice. In this Letter we find a series solution of the luminosity distance in a spatially flat LCDM cosmological model. And it is further shown that the series solution has a relative error of less than 0.36% for any relative parameter β(β= Omega_m / Omega_L) from zero to four, i.e. 0.2 < Omega_L < 1 and redshift z > 0.1 when the order of the series is n = 100.
