Adaptive Multi-Objective Bayesian Optimization for Capacity Planning of Hybrid Heat Sources in Electric-Heat Coupling Systems of Cold Regions

The traditional heat-load generation pattern of combined heat and power generators has become a problem leading to renewable energy source (RES) power curtailment in cold regions, motivating the proposal of a planning model for alternative heat sources. The model aims to identify non-dominant capacity allocation schemes for heat pumps, thermal energy storage, electric boilers, and combined storage heaters to construct a Pareto front, considering both economic and sustainable objectives. The integration of various heat sources from both generation and consumption sides enhances flexibility in utilization. The study introduces a novel optimization algorithm, the adaptive multi-objective Bayesian optimization (AMBO). Compared to other widely used multi-objective optimization algorithms, AMBO eliminates predefined parameters that may introduce subjectivity from planners. Beyond the algorithm, the proposed model incorporates a noise term to account for inevitable simulation deviations, enabling the identification of better-performing planning results that meet the unique requirements of cold regions. What's more, the characteristics of electric-thermal coupling scenarios are captured and reflected in the operation simulation model to make sure the simulation is close to reality. Numerical simulation verifies the superiority of the proposed approach in generating a more diverse and evenly distributed Pareto front in a sample-efficient manner, providing comprehensive and objective planning choices.

Centralized systemic risk control in the interbank system: Weak formulation and Gamma-convergence

This paper studies a systemic risk control problem by the central bank, which dynamically plans monetary supply to stabilize the interbank system with borrowing and lending activities. Facing both heterogeneity among banks and the common noise, the central bank aims to find an optimal strategy to minimize the average distance between log-monetary reserves of all banks and the benchmark of some target steady levels. A weak formulation is adopted, and an optimal randomized control can be obtained in the system with finite banks by applying Ekeland's variational principle. As the number of banks grows large, we prove the convergence of optimal strategies using the Gamma-convergence argument, which yields an optimal weak control in the mean field model. It is shown that this mean field optimal control is associated to the solution of a stochastic Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equation, for which the uniqueness of the solution is established under some mild conditions.

Approximating Nash Equilibrium for Production Control with Sticky Price

We study a mean field game problem arising from the production control for multiple firms with price stickiness in the commodity market. The price dynamics for each firm is described as a (controlled) jump-diffusion process with mean-field interaction. Each firm aims to maximize her expectation of cumulative net profit coupled with each other through price processes. By solving the limiting control problem and a fixed-point problem, we construct an explicit approximating Nash equilibrium when the number of firms grows large.
