AtmosERC: Modeling Dialogue-Level Affective Atmosphere for Emotion Recognition in Conversation

Emotion Recognition in Conversation (ERC) aims to predict utterance-level emotions in dialogues and has largely advanced through context-centric modeling. However, global context is a heterogeneous signal, and not all contextual information is equally relevant to emotion prediction. This paper focuses on the affect-oriented component of this signal, termed dialogue-level affective atmosphere, which captures a latent tendency commonly reflected in conversational emotion patterns. To estimate and exploit this tendency, we propose AtmosERC, a graph-based ERC framework that models each dialogue as a conversational graph over utterances and speakers. A relation-aware graph extractor filters and fuses heterogeneous graph signals to produce dialogue-level and speaker-conditioned affective priors. The resulting compact prior guides lightweight sequential emotion prediction and can also be verbalized into prompt-level cues for LLM-based ERC without modifying backbone models. Experiments on four ERC benchmarks show that AtmosERC improves lightweight ERC, enhances LLM-based ERC as a plug-in cue, and yields more stable predictions under local emotional deviations.

Seeing vs. Believing: Evaluating the Language Bias of Open-Source MLLMs in Counter-Intuitive Scenes

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have demonstrated remarkable performance in mainstream visual understanding tasks, but their ability to process action scenes that contradict everyday common sense remains undertested. To address this gap, we introduce CAIT, a benchmark comprising 400 high-fidelity synthetic scenes focused on counter-intuitive visual actions, such as ``a rabbit is chasing a tiger'', where visual evidence explicitly contradicts common-sense expectations. We evaluate human, leading proprietary models (e.g., Claude and Gemini), and 14 representative open-source MLLMs. Humans achieve near-perfect performance (around 0.95 accuracy) and proprietary models demonstrate robust understanding (achieving up to 0.88 accuracy), standard open-source instruction-tuned models perform at the chance level. Further analysis demonstrates that this failure is driven by a strong language prior: rather than trusting the visual input, they automatically override the anomalous visual signals with statistically common text descriptions. Although introducing Chain-of-Thought reasoning mechanisms can improve accuracy, it significantly slows down the response and generates a new failure mode: models overthink the scenario and refuse to accept the actual visual content simply because it violates real-world physical laws. Finally, we demonstrate that targeted fine-tuning and structured prompting can effectively mitigate this reliance on language priors, enabling open-source models to accurately ground their reasoning in actual visual evidence.

Smart Interrupted Routing Based on Multi-head Attention Mask Mechanism-Driven MARL in Software-defined UASNs

Routing-driven timely data collection in Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks (UASNs) is crucial for marine environmental monitoring, disaster warning and underwater resource exploration, etc. However, harsh underwater conditions, including high delays, limited bandwidth, and dynamic topologies - make efficient routing decisions challenging in UASNs. In this paper, we propose a smart interrupted routing scheme for UASNs to address dynamic underwater challenges. We first model underwater noise influences from real underwater routing features, e.g., turbulence and storms. We then propose a Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-based Interrupted Software-defined UASNs Reinforcement Learning (ISURL) framework which ensures adaptive routing through dynamically failure handling (e.g., energy depletion of sensor nodes or link instability) and real-time interrupted recovery. Based on ISURL, we propose MA-MAPPO algorithm, integrating multi-head attention mask mechanism with MAPPO to filter out infeasible actions and streamline training. Furthermore, to support interrupted data routing in UASNs, we introduce MA-MAPPO_i, MA-MAPPO with interrupted policy, to enable smart interrupted routing decision in UASNs. The evaluations demonstrate that our proposed routing scheme achieves exact underwater data routing decision with faster convergence speed and lower routing delays than existing approaches.
