Novikov homology, jump loci and Massey products

Let X be a finite CW-complex, denote its fundamental group by G. Let R be an n-dimensional complex repesentation of G. Any element A of the first cohomology group of X with complex coefficients gives rise to the exponential deformation of the representation R, which can be considered as a curve in the space of representations. We show that the cohomology of X with local coefficients corresponding to the generic point of this curve is computable from a spectral sequence starting from the cohomology of X with R-twisted coefficients. We compute the differentials of the spectral sequence in terms of Massey products. We show that the spectral sequence degenerates in case when X is a Kaehler manifold, and the representation R is semi-simple. If A is a real cohomology class, one associates to the triple (X,R,A) the twisted Novikov homology (a module over the Novikov ring). We show that the twisted Novikov Betti numbers equal the Betti numbers of X with coefficients in the above local system. We investigate the dependance of these numbers on A and prove that they are constant in the complement to a finite number of integral hyperplanes in the first cohomology group.

Circle-valued Morse theory for complex hyperplane arrangements

Let A be an essential complex hyperplane arrangement in an n-dimensional complex vector space V. Let H denote the union of the hyperplanes, and M denote the complement to H in V. We develop the real-valued and circle-valued Morse theory for M and prove, in particular, that M has the homotopy type of a space obtained from a manifold fibered over a circle, by attaching cells of dimension n. We compute the Novikov homology of M for a large class of homomorphisms of the fundamental group of M to R.

On Burau representations at roots of unity

We consider subgroups of the braid groups which are generated by $k$-th powers of the standard generators and prove that any infinite intersection (with even $k$) is trivial. This is motivated by some conjectures of Squier concerning the kernels of Burau's representations of the braid groups at roots of unity. Furthermore, we show that the image of the braid group on 3 strands by these representations is either a finite group, for a few roots of unity, or a finite extension of a triangle group, by using geometric methods.

Orbit configuration spaces associated to discrete subgroups of PSL(2,R)

The purpose of this article is to analyze several Lie algebras associated to "orbit configuration spaces" obtained from a group G acting freely, and properly discontinuously on the upper 1/2-plane H^2. The Lie algebra obtained from the descending central series for the associated fundamental group is shown to be isomorphic, up to a regrading, to (1) the Lie algebra obtained from the higher homotopy groups of "higher dimensional arrangements" modulo torsion, as well as (2)the Lie obtained from horizontal chord diagrams for surfaces. The resulting Lie algebras are similar to those studied in [13, 14, 15, 2, 7, 8, 6]. The structure of a related graded Poisson algebra defined below and obtained from an analogue of the infinitesimal braid relations parametrized by G is also addressed.

Loop spaces of configuration spaces and finite type invariants

The total homology of the loop space of the configuration space of ordered distinct n points in R^m has a structure of a Hopf algebra defined by the 4-term relations if m>2. We describe a relation of between the cohomology of this loop space and the set of finite type invariants for the pure braid group with n strands. Based on this we give expressions of certain link invariants as integrals over cycles of the above loop space.
