Groups admitting Wirtinger presentations and Gromov hyperbolic groups

Twisted Wirtinger presentations are generalizations of the classical Wirtinger presentations of knot and link groups. In this paper, we prove that if a finitely generated group admitting a twisted Wirtinger presentation is Gromov hyperbolic, then its second rational homology group vanishes. Moreover, if the group is torsion-free, then its second integral homology group also vanishes.

Associated groups of symmetric quandles

In this paper, we investigate the structure of associated groups of symmetric quandles. Among other results, we explore the relationship between the associated group of a symmetric quandle and that of its underlying quandle. We provide a group-theoretic characterization of associated groups of symmetric quandles. Furthermore, we show that a symmetric quandle is embeddable if and only if its underlying quandle is embeddable, and we determine the abelianization of these associated groups.

The second integral homology of even Artin groups

In this paper, we compute the second integral homology of even Artin groups using Hopf's formula. We then apply our results to the computation of cup products and Pontryagin products on even Artin groups, as well as to the second integral homology of even Coxeter groups.

Embedding Alexander quandles into groups

For any twisted conjugate quandle $Q$, and in particular any Alexander quandle, there exists a group $G$ such that $Q$ is embedded into the conjugation quandle of $G$.

The adjoint group of a Coxeter quandle

We give explicit descriptions of the adjoint group of the Coxeter quandle $Q_W$ associated with an arbitrary Coxeter group $W$. The adjoint group of $Q_W$ turns out to be an intermediate group between $W$ and the corresponding Artin group $A_W$, and fits into a central extension of $W$ by a finitely generated free abelian group. We construct $2$-cocycles of $W$ corresponding to the central extension. In addition, we prove that the commutator subgroup of the adjoint group of $Q_W$ is isomorphic to the commutator subgroup of $W$. Finally, the root system $Φ_W$ associated with a Coxeter group $W$ turns out to be a rack. We prove that the adjoint group of $Φ_W$ is isomorphic to the adjoint group of $Q_W$.

Second mod $2$ homology of Artin groups

In this paper, we compute the second mod $2$ homology of an arbitrary Artin group, without assuming the $K(π,1)$ conjecture. The key ingredients are (A) Hopf's formula for the second integral homology of a group and (B) Howlett's result on the second integral homology of Coxeter groups.

A vanishing theorem for the $p$-local homology of Coxeter groups

Given an odd prime number $p$ and a Coxeter group $W$ such that the order of the product $st$ is prime to $p$ for every Coxeter generators $s,t$ of $W$, we prove that the $p$-local homology groups $H_k(W,\mathbb{Z}_{(p)})$ vanish for $1\leq k\leq 2(p-2)$. This generalize a known vanishing result for symmetric groups due to Minoru Nakaoka.

Vanishing ranges for the mod $p$ cohomology of alternating subgroups of Coxeter groups

We obtain vanishing ranges for the mod $p$ cohomology of alternating subgroups of finite $p$-free Coxeter groups. Here a Coxeter group $W$ is $p$-free if the order of the product $st$ is prime to $p$ for every pair of Coxeter generators $s,t$ of $W$. Our result generalizes those for alternating groups formerly proved by Kleshchev-Nakano and Burichenko. As a byproduct, we obtain vanishing ranges for the twisted cohomology of finite $p$-free Coxeter groups with coefficients in the sign representations. In addition, a weak version of the main result is proved for a certain class of infinite Coxeter groups.

Homological infiniteness of Torelli groups

We prove that rational homology of the Torelli group of genus g is infinite dimensional, provided g>6. This means that rational homology of the Torelli space of genus g>6 is infinite dimensional. The Torelli groups with marked points are also considered. In addition, we prove that rational homology of the subgroup of the Torelli group of genus g generated by all the Dehn twists along separating simple closed curves is infinite dimensional for g>2.
