Sign stability of mapping classes on marked surfaces II: general case via reductions

We give a cluster algebraic description of the reduction procedure of mapping classes along a multicurve. Based on this description, we characterize pseudo-Anosov mapping classes on a general marked surface in terms of a weaker version of the uniform sign stability, generalizing the main result in the previous paper [IK20]. Moreover we axiomatize a general reduction procedure of mutation loops parametrized by a rational polyhedral cone in the tropical cluster $\mathcal{X}$-variety, which includes both the reduction along a multicurve and the cluster reduction introduced in [Ish19].

Algebraic entropy of sign-stable mutation loops

We introduce a property of mutation loops, called the sign stability, with a focus on an asymptotic behavior of the iteration of the tropical $\mathcal{X}$-transformation. A sign-stable mutation loop has a numerical invariant which we call the cluster stretch factor, in analogy with that of a pseudo-Anosov mapping class on a marked surface. We compute the algebraic entropies of the cluster $\mathcal{A}$- and $\mathcal{X}$-transformations induced by a sign-stable mutation loop, and conclude that these two coincide with the logarithm of the cluster stretch factor.

Cluster realizations of Weyl groups and higher Teichmüller theory

For a symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we construct a family of weighted quivers $Q_m(\mathfrak{g})$ ($m \geq 2$) whose cluster modular group $Γ_{Q_m(\mathfrak{g})}$ contains the Weyl group $W(\mathfrak{g})$ as a subgroup. We compute explicit formulae for the corresponding cluster $\mathcal{A}$- and $\mathcal{X}$-transformations. As a result, we obtain green sequences and the cluster Donaldson-Thomas transformation for $Q_m(\mathfrak{g})$ in a systematic way when $\mathfrak{g}$ is of finite type. Moreover if $\mathfrak{g}$ is of classical finite type with the Coxeter number $h$, the quiver $Q_{kh}(\mathfrak{g})$ ($k \geq 1$) is mutation-equivalent to a quiver encoding the cluster structure of the higher Teichmüller space of a once-punctured disk with $2k$ marked points on the boundary, up to frozen vertices. This correspondence induces the action of direct products of Weyl groups on the higher Teichmüller space of a general marked surface. We finally prove that this action coincides with the one constructed in [GS18] from the geometrical viewpoint.

Presentations of Cluster Modular Groups and Generation by Cluster Dehn Twists

We give a method to compute presentations of saturated cluster modular groups. Using this, we obtain finite presentations of the saturated cluster modular groups of finite mutation type $X_6$ and $X_7$. We verify that the cluster modular groups of finite mutation type $\widetilde{E}_6$, $\widetilde{E}_7$, $\widetilde{E}_8$, $G_2^{(*,*)}$, $X_6$ and $X_7$ are virtually generated by cluster Dehn twists.

On a Nielsen-Thurston classification theory for cluster modular groups

We classify elements of a cluster modular group into three types. We characterize them in terms of fixed point property of the action on the tropical compactifications associated with the corresponding cluster ensemble. The characterization gives an analogue of the Nielsen-Thurston classification theory on the mapping class group of a surface.
