Dynamically Induced Topological Inflation

We propose an inflation model in which the inflationary era is driven by the strong dynamics of $Sp(2)$ gauge theory. The quark condensation in the confined phase of $Sp(2)$ gauge theory generates the inflaton potential comparable to the energy of the thermal bath at the time of phase transition. Afterwards, with super-Planckian global minimum, the inflation commences at a false vacuum region lying between true vacuum regions and hence the name "topological inflation". Featured by the huge separation between the scale of the false vacuum ($V(0)^{1/4}\sim10^{15}{\rm GeV}$) and the global minimum ($\langleϕ\rangle\sim M_{P}$), the model can be consistent with CMB observables without suffering from the initial condition problem. Crucially, this is achieved without any fine-tuning of parameters in $V(ϕ)$. In addition to $Sp(2)$, this model is based on an anomaly free $Z_{6R}$ discrete $R$ symmetry. Remarkably, while all parameters are fixed by CMB observations, the model predicts a hierarchy of energy scales including the inflation scale, SUSY-breaking scale, R-symmetry breaking scale, Higgsino mass and the right-handed neutrino mass given in terms of the dynamical scale of $Sp(2)$.

Gravitino Cosmology Helped by a Right Handed (S)Neutrino

In this paper, we discuss interesting scenarios resulting from the interplay between the gravitino and the lightest right-handed (s)neutrino. We consider two gravitino mass regimes vastly separated, that is, $m_{3/2}=\mathcal{O}(100){\rm eV}$ and $m_{3/2}\simeq100{\rm GeV}$. For the former case, a significant amount of the entropy production in the cosmological history to dilute the gravitino relic abundance is unavoidable for consistency with the number of satellite galaxies in the Milky way. We will show that the right-handed (s)neutrino can play the role of the heavy particle whose late time decay provides such an additional radiation. For the later case, the gravitino of $m_{3/2}\simeq100{\rm GeV}$ may resolve the $S_{8}$ tension as a decaying dark matter. We will show how the lightest right-handed neutrino and its superpartner can help the gravitino decaying dark matter be equipped with a long enough life time and mass degeneracy with a massive decay product to address the $S_{8}$ tension.

Can Primordial Black Holes as all Dark Matter explain Fast Radio Bursts?

Primordial black holes (PBHs) are one of the most interesting nonparticle dark matter (DM) candidates. They may explain all the DM content in the Universe in the mass regime from about $10^{-14}M_{\odot}$ to $10^{-11}M_{\odot}$. We study PBHs as the source of fast radio bursts (FRBs) via magnetic reconnection in the event of collisions between them and neutron stars (NSs) in galaxies. We investigate the energy loss of PBHs during PBH-NS encounters to model their capture by NSs. To an order-of-magnitude estimation, we conclude that the parameter space of PBHs being all DM is accidentally consistent with that to produce FRBs with a rate which is the order of the observed FRB rate.

Discrete $R$-symmetry, Various Energy Scales and Gravitational Waves

We present a supersymmetric model where energy scales of a discrete $R$-symmetry breaking ($Z_{6R}$) and cosmic inflation are commonly attributed to the confinement scale of a hidden $Sp(2)$ strong dynamics. Apart from these, SUSY-breaking scale, the Higgsino mass and the right-handed neutrino masses are all shown to stem from $Z_{6R}$ breaking scale inferred from CMB observables. We will show that the model is characterized by the SUSY-breaking soft mass $m_{\rm soft}\simeq100-1000{\rm TeV}$ and the reheating temperature $T_{\rm rh}\simeq10^{9}{\rm GeV}$. Then we discuss how these predictions of the model can be tested with the help of the spectrum of the gravitational wave induced by the short-lived cosmic string present during the reheating era.

Probing PeV scale SUSY-breaking with Satellite Galaxies and Primordial Gravitational Waves

We study an inevitable cosmological consequence in PeV scale SUSY-breaking scenarios. We focus on the SUSY-breaking scale corresponding to the gravitino mass $m_{3/2}=100{\rm eV}-1{\rm keV}$. We argue that the presence of an early matter-dominated era and the resulting entropy production are requisite for the Universe with this gravitino mass. We infer the model-independent minimum amount of the entropy production $Δ$ by requiring that the number of dwarf satellite galaxies $N_{\rm sat}$ in the Milky Way exceed the currently observed value, i.e. $N_{\rm sat}\gtrsim63$. This entropy production is inevitably imprinted on the primordial gravitational waves (pGWs) produced during the inflationary era. We study how the information on the value of $Δ$ and the time of entropy production are encoded in the pGW spectrum $Ω_{\rm GW}$. If the future GW surveys observe a suppression feature in the pGW spectrum for the frequency range $\mathcal{O}(10^{-10}){\rm Hz}\lesssim f_{\rm GW}\lesssim\mathcal{O}(10^{-5}){\rm Hz}$, it works as a smoking gun for PeV SUSY-breaking scenarios. Even if they do not, our study can be used to rule out all such scenarios.

Can QCD Axion Stars explain Subaru HSC microlensing?

A non-negligible fraction of the QCD axion dark matter may form gravitationally bound Bose Einstein condensates, which are commonly known as axion stars or axion clumps. Such astrophysical objects have been recently proposed as the cause for the single candidate event reported by Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) microlensing search in the Andromeda galaxy. Depending on the breaking scale of the Peccei-Quinn symmetry and the details of the dark matter scenario, QCD axion clumps may form via gravitational condensation during radiation domination, in the dense core of axion miniclusters, or within axion minihalos around primordial black holes. We analyze all these scenarios and conclude that the microlensing candidate detected by the Subaru HSC survey is likely not caused by QCD axion stars.

Muon $g-2$ and Co-annihilating Dark Matter in the MSSM

We demonstrate that the recent measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and dark matter can be simultaneously explained within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Dark matter is a mostly-bino state, with the relic abundance obtained via co-annihilations with either the sleptons or wino. The most interesting regions of parameter space will be tested by the next generation of dark matter direct detection experiments.

Upper Limit on the Proton Lifetime in Minimal Supersymetric SU(5)

In minimal supersymmetric SU(5) models, the proton can decay through dimension 5 operators. Since this decay depends directly on the supersymmetric soft masses, it will be constrained by other observables which depend on the soft masses, such as the Higgs mass and the dark matter relic density. In this work, we will examine the upper limit on the proton lifetime in minimal supersymmetric SU(5) with constrained minimal supersymmetric (CMSSM) boundary conditions set at the grand unification scale. We perform a random scan over the variables of the (CMSSM), with of order $10^{6}$ points, and find that the proton lifetime is within reach of JUNO and Hyper-Kamiokande's experiment.

Radio signatures from encounters between Neutron Stars and QCD-Axion Minihalos around Primordial Black Holes

Probing the QCD axion dark matter (DM) hypothesis is extremely challenging as the axion interacts very weakly with Standard Model particles. We propose a new avenue to test the QCD axion DM via transient radio signatures coming from encounters between neutron stars (NSs) and axion minihalos around primordial black holes (PBHs). We consider a general QCD axion scenario in which the PQ symmetry breaking occurs before (or during) inflation coexisting with a small fraction of DM in the form of PBHs. The PBHs will unavoidably acquire around them axion minihalos with the typical length scale of parsecs. The axion density in the minihalos may be much higher than the local DM density, and the presence of these compact objects in the Milky Way today provides a novel chance for testing the axion DM hypothesis. We study the evolution of the minihalo mass distribution in the Galaxy accounting for tidal forces and estimate the encounter rate between NSs and the dressed PBHs. We find that the encounters give rise to transient line-like emission of radio frequency photons produced by the resonant axion-photon conversion in the NS magnetosphere and the characteristic signal could be detectable with the sensitivity of current and prospective radio telescopes. It would be important to investigate in detail search strategies for such signals which would provide a novel pathway for QCD axion detection.

Cosmic Birefringence and Electroweak Axion Dark Energy

Taking the recently reported non-zero rotation angle of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) linear polarization $β=0.35\pm0.14{\rm\, deg}$ as the hint for a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson quintessence dark energy (DE), we study the electroweak (EW) axion quintessence DE model where the axion mass is generated by the EW instantons. We find that the observed value of $β$ implies a non-trivial $U(1)$ electromagnetic anomaly coefficient ($c_γ$), once the current constraint on the DE equation of state is also taken into account. With the aid of the hypothetical high energy structure of the model inspired by the experimentally inferred $c_γ$, the model is shown to be able to make prediction for the current equation of state ($w_{\rm DE,0}$) of the quintessence DE. This is expected to make our scenario distinguishable in comparison with the cosmological constant ($w=-1$) and testable in future when the error in the future measurement of $w_{\rm DE,0}$ is reduced to $\mathcal{O}(1)\%$ level ($δw=\mathcal{O}(10^{-2})$).

Wino-Higgsino dark matter in the MSSM from the $g-2$ anomaly

In this letter, we show that the wino-Higgsino dark matter (DM) is detectable in near future DM direct detection experiments for almost all consistent parameter space in the spontaneously broken supergravity (SUGRA) if the muon g-2 anomaly is explained by the wino-Higgsino loop diagrams. We also point out that the present and future LHC experiments can exclude or confirm this SUGRA explanation of the observed muon g-2 anomaly.

The Upper Bound of the Second Higgs Boson Mass in Minimal Gauge Mediation with the Gravitino Warm Dark Matter

A keV-scale gravitino arsing from a minimal supersymmetric (SUSY) Standard Model (MSSM) is an interesting possibility since the small scale problems that $Λ$CDM model encounters in the modern cosmology could be alleviated with the keV-scale gravitino serving as the warm dark matter (WDM). Such a light gravitino asks for a low scale supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking for which the gauge mediation (GM) is required as a consistent SUSY-breaking mediation mechanism. In this paper, we show upperbounds of the masses of the second CP-even Higgs boson $H$ and the CP-odd Higgs boson $A$, assuming the keV-scale gravitino to be responsible for the current DM relic abundance: the upperbound on the mass of $H/A$ is found to be $\sim 4$ TeV for the gravitino mass of $\mathcal{O}(10$-$100)$ keV. Interestingly, the mass of $H/A$ can be as small as 2-3 TeV and the predicted $\tanβ$ is as large as 55-60 for the gravitino mass of $\mathcal{O}(10)$ keV. This will be tested in the near future Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments.

NANOGrav results and LIGO-Virgo primordial black holes in axion-like curvaton model

We discuss a possible connection between the recent NANOGrav results and the primordial black holes (PBHs) for the LIGO-Virgo events. In particular, we focus on the axion-like curvaton model, which provides a sizable amount of PBHs and GWs induced by scalar perturbations around the NANOGrav frequency range. The inevitable non-Gaussianity of this model suppresses the induced GWs associated with PBHs for the LIGO-Virgo events to be compatible with the NANOGrav results. We show that the axion-like curvaton model can account for PBHs for the LIGO-Virgo events and the NANOGrav results simultaneously.

Shining Primordial Black Holes

We study the well-motivated mixed dark matter (DM) scenario composed of a dominant thermal WIMP, highlighting the case of $SU(2)_L$ triplet fermion "winos", with a small fraction of primordial black holes (PBHs). After the wino kinetic decoupling, the DM particles are captured by PBHs leading to the presence of PBHs with dark minihalos in the Milky Way today. The strongest constraints for the wino DM come from the production of narrow line gamma rays from wino annihilation in the Galactic Center. We analyse in detail the viability of the mixed wino DM scenario, and determine the constraints on the fraction of DM in PBHs assuming a cored halo profile in the Milky Way. We show that already with the sensitivity of current indirect searches, there is a significant probability for detecting a gamma ray signal characteristic for the wino annihilation in a single nearby dressed PBH when $M_{\text{PBH}} \sim M_{\odot}$, which we refer to as a "shining black hole". Similar results should apply also in more general setups with ultracompact minihalos or other DM models, since the accretion of DM around large overdensities and DM annihilation are both quite generic processes.

Charms of Strongly Interacting Conformal Gauge Mediation

By extending a previously proposed conformal gauge mediation model, we construct a gauge-mediated SUSY breaking (GMSB) model where a SUSY-breaking scale, a messenger mass, the $μ$-parameter and the gravitino mass in a minimal supersymmetric (SUSY) Standard Model (MSSM) are all explained by a single mass scale, a R-symmetry breaking scale. We focus on a low scale SUSY-breaking scenario with the gravitino mass $m_{3/2}=\mathcal{O}(1){\rm eV}$, which is free from the cosmological gravitino problem and relaxes the fine-tuning of the cosmological constant. Both the messenger and SUSY-breaking sectors are subject to a hidden strong dynamics with the conformality above the messenger mass threshold (and hence the name of the model "strongly interacting conformal gauge mediation"). In our model, the Higgs B-term is suppressed and a large $\tanβ$ is predicted, resulting in the relatively light second CP-even Higgs and the CP-odd Higgs with a sizable production cross section. These Higgs bosons can be tested at future LHC experiments.

A natural and simple UV completion of the QCD axion model

The novel PQ mechanism replaces the strong CP problem with some challenges in a model building. In particular, the challenges arise regarding i) the origin of an anomalous global symmetry called a PQ symmetry, ii) the scale of the PQ symmetry breaking, and iii) the quality of the PQ symmetry. In this letter, we provide a natural and simple UV completed model that addresses these challenges. Extra quarks and anti-quarks are separated by two branes in the Randall-Sundrum ${\bf R}^4 \times S^1 / {\bf Z}_2$ spacetime while a hidden SU($N_H$) gauge field condensates in the bulk. The brane separation is the origin of the PQ symmetry and its breaking scale is given by the dynamical scale of the SU($N_H$) gauge interaction. The (generalized) Casimir force of SU($N_H$) condensation stabilizes the 5th dimension, which guarantees the quality of the PQ symmetry.

A Model of Interacting Dark Matter and Dark Radiation for $H_{0}$ and $σ_{8}$ Tensions

We present a model describing the dark sector (DS) featured by two interactions remaining efficient until late times in the matter-dominated era after recombination: the interaction among dark radiations (DR), and the interaction between a small fraction of dark matter and dark radiation. The dark sector consists of (1) a dominant component cold collisionless DM (DM1), (2) a sub-dominant cold DM (DM2) and (3) a self-interacting DR. When a sufficient amount of DR is ensured and a few percent of the total DM density is contributed by DM2 interacting with DR, this set-up is known to be able to resolve both the Hubble and $σ_{8}$ tension. In light of this, we propose a scenario which is logically natural and has an intriguing theoretical structure with a hidden unbroken gauge group ${\rm SU}(5)_{\rm X}\otimes {\rm U}(1)_{\rm X}$. Our model of the dark sector does not introduce any new scalar field, but contains only massless chiral fermions and gauge fields in the ultraviolet (UV) regime. As such, it introduces a new scale (DM2 mass, $m_{\rm DM2}$) based on the confinement resulting from the strong dynamics of ${\rm SU}(5)_{\rm X}$. Both DM2-DR and DR-DR interactions are attributed to an identical long range interaction of ${\rm U}(1)_{\rm X}$. We show that our model can address the cosmological tensions when it is characterized by $g_{\rm X}=\mathcal{O}(10^{-3})-\mathcal{O}(10^{-2})$, $m_{\rm DM2}=\mathcal{O}(1)-\mathcal{O}(100){\rm GeV}$ and $T_{\rm DS}/T_{\rm SM}\simeq0.3-0.4$ where $g_{\rm X}$ is the gauge coupling of ${\rm U}(1)_{\rm X}$ and $T_{\rm DS}$ ($T_{\rm SM}$) is a temperature of the DS (Standard Model sector). Our model explains candidates of DM2 and DR, and DM1 can be any kind of CDM.

Dark Photon Dark Matter in the minimal $B-L$ Model

The extension of the Standard model (SM) with three heavy right handed neutrinos, a complex scalar and the gauged $U(1)_{\rm B-L}$ symmetry (the minimal $B-L$ model) is considered the most compelling minimal one: the presence and the out-of-equilibrium decay of the heavy right handed neutrinos can account for the small masses of the active neutrinos and the baryon asymmetry of the universe. A natural accompanying question concerns whether the minimal $B-L$ model can naturally accommodate an interesting dark matter (DM) candidate. We study the possibility where the current DM population is explained by the gauge boson of $U(1)_{\rm B-L}$ symmetry. We discuss how the minimal set-up originally aimed at the seesaw mechanism and the leptogenesis is connected to conditions making the gauge boson promoted to a DM candidate.
