Equivalence of the categories of categorical groups and cssc-crossed modules

In [8] we proved that any categorical group defines a c-crossed module, which is a cssc-crossed module defined in the same paper. In [9] we constructed a categorical group for any cssc-crossed module. In the presented paper we prove that these correspondences define functors between the corresponding categories, which realize an equivalence of the categories of categorical groups and cssc-crossed modules.

From cssc-crossed modules to categorical groups

For any cssc-crossed module a category is constructed, equipped with a structure and proved that this is a coherent categorical group. Together with a result of the previous paper, where to any categorical group the cssc-crossed module is associated, this construction will enable us to prove an equivalence between the categories of categorical groups and of cssc-crossed modules in the sequel to this paper.

Coverings and liftings of generalized crossed modules

In the theory of crossed modules, considering arbitrary self-actions instead of conjugation allows for the extension of the concept of crossed modules and thus the notion of generalized crossed module emerges. In this paper we give a precise definition for generalized cat$^1$-groups and obtain a functor from the category of generalized cat$^1$-groups to generalized crossed modules. Further, we introduce the notions of coverings and liftings for generalized crossed modules and investigate properties of these structures. Main objective of this study is to obtain an equivalence between the category of coverings and the category of liftings of a given generalized crossed module $(A,B,α)$.

Pentactions and action representability in the category of reduced groups with action

A notion of pentaction of any object in the category $\mathbf{rGr}^{\bullet}$ of reduced groups with action is introduced. The operations are defined in the set $\mathsf{Pentact}(A)$ of pentactions of an object $A$ of $\mathbf{rGr}^{\bullet}$. It is proved that if an object $A$ is perfect with zero weak stabilizer in the sense defined in the paper, then $\mathsf{Pentact}(A)$ is an object of $\mathbf{rGr}^{\bullet}$, it has a derived action on $A$, the object $A$ is action representable and $\mathsf{Pentact}(A)$ represents all actions on $A$.

Actions and semi-direct products in categories of groups with action

Derived actions in the category of groups with action on itself $\mathbf{Gr}^{\bullet}$ are defined and described. This category plays a crucial role in the solution of Loday's two problems stated in the literature. A full subcategory of reduced groups with action $\mathbf{rGr}^{\bullet}$ of $\mathbf{Gr}^{\bullet}$ is introduced, which is not a category of interest but has some properties, which can be applied in the investigation of action representability in this category; these properties are similar to those, which were used in the construction of universal strict general actors in the category of interest. Semi-direct product constructions are given in $\mathbf{Gr}^{\bullet}$ and $\mathbf{rGr}^{\bullet}$ and it is proved that an action is a derived action in $\mathbf{Gr}^{\bullet}$ (resp. $\mathbf{rGr}^{\bullet}$) if and only if the corresponding semi-direct product is and object of $\mathbf{Gr}^{\bullet}$ (resp. $\mathbf{rGr}^{\bullet}$). The results obtained in this paper will be applied in the forthcoming paper on the representability of actions in the category $\mathbf{rGr}^{\bullet}$.

Groups up to congruence relation and from categorical groups to c-crossed modules

We introduce a notion of c-group, which is a group up to congruence relation and consider the corresponding category. Extensions, actions and crossed modules (c-crossed modules) are defined in this category and the semi-direct product is constructed. We prove that each categorical group gives rise to c-groups and to a c-crossed module, which is a connected, special and strict c-crossed module in the sense defined by us. The results obtained here will be applied in the proof of an equivalence of the categories of categorical groups and connected, special and strict c-crossed modules.

Categories internal to crossed modules

In this study, internal categories in the category of the crossed modules are characterized and it has been shown that there is a natural equivalence between the category of the crossed modules over crossed modules, i.e. crossed squares, and the category of the internal categories within the category of crossed modules. Finally, we obtain examples of crossed squares using this equivalence.

Derived crossed modules

In this study, we interpret the notion of homotopy of morphisms in the category of crossed modules in a category $\mathsf{C}$ of groups with operations using the categorical equivalence between crossed modules and internal categories in $\mathsf{C}$. Further, we characterize the derivations of crossed modules in a category $\mathsf{C}$ of groups with operations and obtain new crossed modules using regular derivations of old one.

Actor of categories internal to groups

In this study, using the Brown-Spencer theorem and in the ligth of the works of Norrie, in the category of internal categories within groups, also called group-groupoids, we interpret the notion of actor of a crossed module over groups. Further, we construct the action of a group-groupoid on a group-groupoid. Moreover, we give the explicit construction of semi-direct product of two group-groupoids and of holomorph of group-groupoids.

Crossed modules, double group-groupoids and crossed squares

In this paper using split extensions of group-groupoids we obtain the notion of crossed modules over group-grouoids which are also called 2-groups and we prove a categorical equivalence of these types of crossed modules and double group-groupoids which are internal to the category of group-groupoids. This equivalence enables us to produce more examples of double groupoids.

Further remarks on liftings of crossed modules

In this paper we define the notion of pullback lifting of a lifting crossed module over a crossed module morphism and interpret this notion in the category of group-groupoid actions as pullback action. Moreover, we give a criterion for the lifting of homotopic crossed module morphisms to be homotopic, which will be called homotopy lifting property for crossed module morphisms. Finally, we investigate some properties of derivations of lifting crossed modules according to base crossed module derivations.

Actions of internal groupoids in the category of Leibniz algebras

The aim of this paper is to characterize the notion of internal category (groupoid) in the category of Leibniz algebras and investigate the properties of well-known notions such as covering groupoid and groupoid operations (actions) in this category. Further, for a fixed internal groupoid $G$, we prove that the category of covering groupoids of $G$ and the category of internal groupoid actions of $G$ on Leibniz algebras are equivalent. Finally we interpret the corresponding notion of covering groupoids in the category of crossed modules of Leibniz algebras.

Semi-homotopy and semi-fundamental groups

In this study we introduce the notions of semi-homotopy of semi-continuous maps and of semi-paths. We also construct a group structure, which will be called semi-fundamental group, using semi-loops and explore some properties of semi-homotopy and semi-fundamental groups.

Normality and quotient in crossed modules, cat$^1$-groups and internal groupoids within groups with operations

In this paper we define the notions of normal subcrossed module and quotient crossed module within groups with operations; and using the equivalence of crossed modules over groups with operations and internal groupoids we prove how normality and quotient concepts are related in these two categories. Further we prove an equivalence of crossed modules over groups with operations and cat$^1$-groups with operations for a certain algebraic category; and then by this equivalence we determine normal and quotient objects in the category of cat$^{1}$-groups with operations. Finally we characterize the coverings of cat$^{1}$-groups with operations.

Covering groupoids of categorical groups

If $X$ is a topological group, then its fundamental groupoid $π_1X$ is a group-groupoid which is a group object in the category of groupoids. Further if $X$ is a path connected topological group which has a simply connected cover, then the category of covering spaces of $X$ and the category of covering groupoids of $π_1X$ are equivalent. In this paper we prove that if $(X,x_0)$ is an $H$-group, then the fundamental groupoid $π_1X$ is a categorical group. This enable us to prove that the category of the covering spaces of an $H$-group $(X,x_0)$ is equivalent to the category of covering groupoid of the categorical group $π_1X$.

Group-groupoid actions and liftings of crossed modules

The aim of this paper is to define the notion of lifting of a crossed module via a group morphism and give some properties of this type of the lifting. Further we obtain a criterion for a crossed module to have a lifting of crossed module. We also prove that the liftings of a certain crossed module constitute a category; and that this category is equivalent to the category of covers of that crossed module and hence to the category of group-groupoid actions of the corresponding groupoid to that crossed module.

Coverings and crossed modules of topological groups with operations

It is a well known result in the covering groups that a subgroup $G$ of the fundamental group at the identity of a semi-locally simply connected topological group determines a covering morphism of topological groups with characteristic group $G$. In this paper we generalize this result to a large class of algebraic objects called topological groups with operations, including topological groups. We also give the cover of crossed modules within topological groups with operations.
