Asymptotic dynamics of three dimensional supergravity and higher spin gravity revisited

We reconsider the Hamiltonian reduction of the action for three dimensional AdS supergravity and $W_3$ higher spin AdS gravity in the Chern-Simons formulation under asymptotically anti-de Sitter boundary conditions. We show that the reduction gives two copies of chiral bosons on the boundary. In particular, we take into account the holonomy of the Chern-Simons connection which manifests itself as zero mode of the momentum of the boundary chiral boson. We provide an equivalent formulation of the boundary action which we claim to be the geometric action on symplectic leaves of a (super-)Virasoro or a higher spin $W_N$ Poisson manifold in the case of supergravity or higher spin gravity respectively, where the intersection of leaves (given in terms of leaves representatives) can be identified as the bulk holonomy. This concludes the extension to non-linear algebras where the notion of coadjoint representation is not well-defined. The boundary Hamiltonian depends on a choice of boundary conditions and is equivalent to the Schwarzian action for corresponding Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions. We make this connection explicit in the extended supersymmetric case. Moreover, we discuss the geometric action in the case of $W_3$ AdS$_3$ gravity in both $\mathfrak{sl}(3)$ highest weight representations based on principal and diagonal $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ embeddings.

Memory effects from holonomies

We provide a uniform treatment of electromagnetic and gravitational memory effects, based on the gravito-electromagnetic formulation of GR and a generalization of the geodesic deviation equation. This allows us to find novel results: in gauge theory, we derive relativistic corrections to the well-known kick memory observable, and a general expression for the displacement memory observable, typically overlooked in the literature. In GR, we find relativistic corrections to displacement and kick memory observables. In both theories, we find novel radial memory effects. Next, we show that electromagnetic and gravitational memory observables can be formulated in terms of certain holonomies on a holographic screen in asymptotically flat spacetimes. In gauge theory, the displacement and kick memory effects form a Hamiltonian vector field which is canonically generated by a Wilson loop. In the first order formulation of GR, we show that the holonomy naturally splits into translational and Lorentz parts. While the former encodes the leading and subleading displacement and kick memory observables, the latter reproduces the gyroscopic memory effect.

Dual Theory for maximally $\mathcal{N}$ extended flat Supergravity

Maximally $\mathcal{N}$ extended $2+1$ dimensional flat Supergravity theories exist for a class of super-Poincar\'{e} algebras for arbitrary $\mathcal{N}$. They have rich asymptotic structures and contain all interesting topological supergravity solutions in presence of non-trivial holonomy. For the asymptotic symmetry algebra being a suitable flat limit of the superconformal algebra $Osp(\mathcal{N}|2;R)$, we have found the $1+1$ dimensional chiral WZW model as the dual quantum field theory that describes the dynamics of these solutions. In the Hamiltonian analysis, the reduced phase space resembles a flat super Liouville theory.

Local supersymmetry and the square roots of Bondi-Metzner-Sachs supertranslations

Super-BMS$_4$ algebras -- also called BMS$_4$ superalgebras -- are graded extensions of the BMS$_4$ algebra. They can be of two different types: they can contain either a finite number or an infinite number of fermionic generators. We show in this letter that, with suitable boundary conditions on the graviton and gravitino fields at spatial infinity, supergravity on asymptotically flat spaces possesses as superalgebra of asymptotic symmetries a (nonlinear) super-BMS$_4$ algebra containing an infinite number of fermionic generators, which we denote SBMS$_4$. These boundary conditions are not only invariant under SBMS$_4$, but also lead to a fully consistent canonical description of the supersymmetries, which have in particular well-defined Hamiltonian generators that close according to the nonlinear SBMS$_4$ algebra. One finds in particular that the graded brackets between the fermionic generators yield all the BMS$_4$ supertranslations, of which they provide therefore "square roots".

Asymptotic structure of the Rarita-Schwinger theory in four spacetime dimensions at spatial infinity

We investigate the asymptotic structure of the free Rarita-Schwinger theory in four spacetime dimensions at spatial infinity in the Hamiltonian formalism. We impose boundary conditions for the spin-3/2 field that are invariant under an infinite-dimensional (abelian) algebra of non-trivial asymptotic fermionic symmetries. The compatibility of this set of boundary conditions with the invariance of the theory under Lorentz boosts requires the introduction of boundary degrees of freedom in the Hamiltonian action, along the lines of electromagnetism. These boundary degrees of freedom modify the symplectic structure by a surface contribution appearing in addition to the standard bulk piece. The Poincar\'e transformations have then well-defined (integrable, finite) canonical generators. Moreover, improper fermionic gauge symmetries, which are also well-defined canonical transformations, are further enlarged and turn out to be parametrized by two independent angle-dependent spinor functions at infinity, which lead to an infinite-dimensional fermionic algebra endowed with a central charge. We extend next the analysis to the supersymmetric spin-$(1,3/2)$ and spin-$(2,3/2)$ multiplets. First, we present the canonical realization of the super-Poincar\'e algebra on the spin-$(1,3/2)$ multiplet, which is shown to be consistently enhanced by the infinite-dimensional abelian algebra of angle-dependent bosonic and fermionic improper gauge symmetries associated with the electromagnetic and the Rarita-Schwinger fields, respectively. A similar analysis of the spin-$(2,3/2)$ multiplet is then carried out to obtain the canonical realization of the super-Poincar\'e algebra, consistently enhanced by the abelian improper bosonic gauge transformations of the spin-$2$ field (BMS supertranslations) and the abelian improper fermionic gauge transformations of the spin-$3/2$ field.

New N=2 SuperBMS$_3$ algebra and Invariant Dual Theory for 3D Supergravity

We have constructed a two dimensional theory dual to 3D asymptotically flat Supergravity in presence of two supercharges with(out) internal $R-$symmetry. The duals in both the cases are identified with chiral Wess-Zumino-Witten models. Further gauging the theories, we show that the dual of the one without $R-$symmetry is invariant under the well known ${\cal{N}}=2$ SuperBMS$_3$ introduced in Banerjee et.al. 1609.09210 , while for the one with $R-$symmetry, the dual is invariant under the most generic, so far unknown, quantum ${\cal{N}}=2$ SuperBMS$_3$ symmetry. We have also commented on the phase space description of the duals.

Maximally $\cal{N}$-extended super-BMS$_3$ algebras and Generalized 3D Gravity Solutions

We consider the maximal $\cal{N}-$extended supergravity theory in 3 dimensions with fermionic generators transforming under real but non necessarily irreducible representations of the internal algebra. We obtain the symmetry algebra at null infinity preserving boundary conditions of asymptotically flat solutions, i.e. the maximal $\cal{N}-$extended super-BMS$_3$ algebra, which possesses non-linear correction in the anti-commutators of supercharges. We present the supersymmetric energy bound and derive the explicit form of the asymptotic Killing spinors. We also find the most generic circular symmetric ground state of the theory, which corresponds to a non-supersymmetric cosmological solutions and derive their entropy.

Dual Superconformal Symmetry of ${\cal N}=2$ Chern-Simons theory with Fundamental Matter at Large $N$

Dual conformal symmetry and Yangian symmetry are symmetries of amplitudes that have aided the study of scattering amplitudes in highly supersymmetric theories like ${\cal N}=4$ SYM and ABJM. However, in general such symmetries are absent from the theories with lesser or no supersymmetry. In this paper, we show that the tree level $2\to 2$ scattering amplitude in the 3d ${\cal N}=2$ Chern-Simons theory coupled to a fundamental chiral multiplet is dual superconformal invariant. In the 't Hooft large $N$ limit, the $2\to 2$ scattering amplitude in this theory has been shown to be tree-level exact in non-anyonic channels, while having only an overall multiplicative coupling dependent renormalisation in the anyonic channel. Therefore, the dual superconformal symmetry that we demonstrate in this paper is all loop exact. This is unlike the previously studied highly supersymmetric theories where dual superconformal symmetry is anomalous at loop levels. Furthermore, we reverse the argument to study the extent to which dual superconformal invariance fixes the scattering amplitude in an ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric theory. We demonstrate that requiring the dual superconformal invariance completely fixes the momentum dependence of the $2\to2$ amplitude, while the coupling constant dependence remain unfixed. Further, we use a combination of parity invariance, unitarity and self-duality of the amplitude to constrain the coupling dependence of scattering amplitude.

N=4 Supersymmetric BMS3 algebras from asymptotic symmetry analysis

We consider three dimensional $N=4$ flat supergravity, with an abelian R-symmetry enhancing the gravitational phase space. We obtain the field configuration whose asymptotic symmetries at null infinity coincide with the centrally extended $N=4$ super Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS) algebra .The killing spinors for this generic configuration are obtained together with the energy bounds imposed by supersymmetry. It is explicitly shown that the same algebra can be obtained as a flat (AdS radius $\rightarrow \infty$ ) limit of the combined $(2,0)$ and $(0,2)$ sectors of AdS supergravity.

Extended Supersymmetric BMS$_3$ algebras and Their Free Field Realisations

We study $N=(2,4,8)$ supersymmetric extensions of the three dimensional BMS algebra (BMS$_3$) with most generic possible central extensions. We find that $N$-extended supersymmetric BMS$_3$ algebras can be derived by a suitable contraction of two copies of the extended superconformal algebras. Extended algebras from all the consistent contractions are obtained by scaling left-moving and right-moving supersymmetry generators symmetrically, while Virasoro and R-symmetry generators are scaled asymmetrically. On the way, we find that the BMS/GCA correspondence does not in general hold for supersymmetric systems. Using the $\beta$-$\gamma$ and the ${\mathfrak b}$-${\mathfrak c}$ systems, we construct free field realisations of all the extended super-BMS$_3$ algebras.

Free-field realisations of the BMS$_3$ algebra and its extensions

We construct an explicit realisation of the BMS$_3$ algebra with nonzero central charges using holomorphic free fields. This can be extended by the addition of chiral matter to a realisation having arbitrary values for the two independent central charges. Via the introduction of additional free fields, we extend our construction to the minimally supersymmetric BMS$_3$ algebra and to the nonlinear higher-spin BMS$_3$-W$_3$ algebra. We also describe an extended system that realises both the SU(2) current algebra as well as BMS$_3$ via the Wakimoto representation, though in this case introducing a central extension also brings in new non-central operators.
