Magnetic shielding in the atomic hydrogen anion

The atomic hydrogen anion H$^-$ is the lightest stable anion and its bound states and resonances are well studied in the literature. Due to the planned comparison of the bare antiproton to H$^-$ in a Penning trap, we study the magnetic shielding of H$^-$ using the nonrelativistic quantum electrodynamics theory, by accurately calculating the non-relativistic shielding, as well as finite nuclear mass, relativistic, and partially QED corrections. We find that the finite nuclear mass correction is quite significant in H$^-$ contributing about $0.1\%$ of the total shielding, which is more than twice as much as the relativistic correction. Our final result for the shielding constant has a nine-parts-per-trillion accuracy and paves the way for direct comparison of the antiproton-to-proton magnetic moments.

Optimization of the Femtosecond Laser Impulse for Excitation and the Spin-Orbit Mediated Dissociation in the NaRb Dimer

We study the dynamics of multiple coupled states under the influence of an arbitrary time-dependent external field to investigate the femtosecond laser-driven excitation and the spin-orbit mediated dissociation in the NaRb dimer. In this process, the dimer is excited from the ground triplet state $1^3\Sigma^+$ to the $1^3\Pi$ state using the femtosecond laser impulse and the spin-orbit coupling between the $1^3\Pi$ and $2^1\Sigma^+$ states results in the singlet-triplet transition. The laser impulse parameters are optimised to obtain maximum yield in electronic states correlating with the first excited atomic asymptote. We observe the detailed population statistics and power-law decay of these states. Finally, the analysis of the population oscillations allows us to determine the optimal time delay for dumping the molecule to its absolute ground state.

Spontaneous Electron Emission Versus Dissociation in Internally Hot Silver Dimer Anions

Referring to a recent experiment, we theoretically study the process of a two-channel decay of the diatomic silver anion (Ag$_2^-$), namely the spontaneous electron ejection giving Ag$_2$ + e$^-$ and the dissociation leading to Ag$^-$ + Ag. The ground state potential energy curves of the silver molecules of diatomic neutral and negative ion were calculated using proper pseudo-potentials and atomic basis sets. We also estimated the non-adiabatic electronic coupling between the ground state of Ag$_2^-$ and the ground state of Ag$_2$ + e$^-$, which in turn allowed us to estimate the minimal and mean values of the electron autodetachment lifetimes. The relative energies of the rovibrational levels allow the description of the spontaneous electron emission process, while the description of the rotational dissociation is treated with the quantum dynamics method as well as time-independent methods. The results of our calculations are verified by comparison with experimental data.

Potential energy surfaces of the low-lying electronic states of the Li + LiCs system

Ab initio quantum chemistry calculations are performed for the mixed alkali triatomic system. Global minima of the ground and first excited doublet states of the trimer are found and Born-Oppenheimer potential energy surfaces of the Li atom interacting with the LiCs molecule were calculated for these states. The lithium atom is placed at various distances and bond angles from the lithium-caesium dimer. Three-body nonadditive forces of the Li$_2$Cs molecule in the global minimum are investigated. Dimer-atom interactions are found to be strongly attractive and may be important in the experiments, particularly involving cold alkali polar dimers.
