Freeze-in Production of Non-Abelian Millicharged Vector Dark Matter

We present the first predictive realization, to our knowledge, of vector freeze-in dark matter from a hidden non-Abelian $SU(2)$ gauge sector spontaneously broken by a Higgs triplet to a residual $U(1)$ symmetry with a massless dark photon mediator. A massive dark vector particle-antiparticle pair acquires small millicharges through a dimension-4 kinetic-mixing term with an induced coefficient $ε$, generated by an effective dimension-5 operator involved the Higgs triplet. The dark sector interactions are governed by the hidden gauge coupling $g_D$, providing a weak connection to the Standard Model to realize the freeze-in dark matter production mechanism. Solving the two-temperature Boltzmann evolution including plasmon decay, we find a wide region of parameter space consistent with the observed relic abundance while satisfying astrophysical and cosmological constraints. This minimal framework connects non-Abelian vector dynamics with long-range dark forces and may be probed by upcoming sub-GeV dark matter direct-detection experiments.

When The Standard Model Higgs Meets Its Lighter 95 GeV Twin

Recent reports from the Large Hadron Collider indicate two excesses: one in the lighter Higgs mass region around 95 GeV, and another in the rare $Z γ$ final state of the Standard Model (SM) 125 GeV Higgs decay. These anomalies are analyzed within the minimal gauged two-Higgs-doublet model (G2HDM). A viable parameter space in G2HDM is identified that can account for both excesses. Within the viable parameter space, we find a strong correlation between the signal strengths of the SM 125 GeV Higgs decays into $γγ$ and $Z γ$ modes. However, this correlation does not extend to the lighter 95 GeV Higgs.

The Line operators in the G2HDM model

We investigate the global structure of the Gauged Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (G2HDM), a framework that extends the Standard Model by introducing a dark sector governed by the gauge symmetry $U(1)_X \times SU(2)_H$. The full gauge symmetry of the theory, including the visible sector, is given by the universal covering group $\tilde{G} = U(1)_Y \times SU(2)_L \times SU(3)_C \times U(1)_X \times SU(2)_H$. However, the true gauge group may instead be a quotient $G = \tilde{G} / Γ$, where $Γ$ is the center of $\tilde{G}$ or a subgroup thereof, leading to different global structures that cannot be distinguished by local experiments. We explore the physical implications of these global structures, analyzing their effects on Wilson, 't Hooft, and dyonic line operators, as well as the periodicity of the CP-violating $θ$-angles associated with each group factor. Furthermore, we determine the minimal electric and magnetic charges that arise after electroweak symmetry breaking, highlighting their dependence on the choice of $Γ$. These findings provide a systematic characterization of the G2HDM's global properties and their potential phenomenological consequences.

Exploring Abelian-Non-Abelian Kinetic Mixing in SMEFT and Beyond

We explore a novel scenario involving Abelian-non-Abelian kinetic mixing within the framework of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) and its extension with a real triplet scalar field. In SMEFT, this mixing arises exclusively from a dimension-6 operator involving the Standard Model Higgs doublet, while the real triplet scalar field introduces an additional dimension-5 operator. We derive the modifications to electroweak gauge boson properties and impose constraints using electroweak precision data. In SMEFT, we find that $Z$ pole data at LEP-I imposes a stringent constraint on the kinetic mixing parameter, requiring it to be less than $O$($10^{-4}$), which corresponds to a new physics scale of about 10 TeV. In the SMEFT+triplet scenario, the constraint can be significantly relaxed with a sizeable triplet vacuum expectation value while preserving custodial symmetry in a finely-tuned parameter space. Future measurements from the Circular Electron Positron Collider could probe the kinetic mixing parameter down to an order of magnitude smaller.

Gravitational Waves and Dark Matter in the Gauged Two-Higgs Doublet Model

We investigate the possibility of a strong first-order electroweak phase transition during the early universe within the framework of the gauged two-Higgs doublet model (G2HDM) and explore its detectability through stochastic gravitational wave signals. The G2HDM introduces a dark replica of the Standard Model electroweak gauge group, inducing an accidental $Z_2$ symmetry which not only leads to a simple scalar potential at tree-level but also offers a compelling vectorial dark matter candidate. Using the high temperature expansion in the effective potential that manifests gauge invariance, we find a possible two-step phase transition pattern in the model with a strong first-order transition occurring in the second step at the electroweak scale temperature. Collider data from the LHC plays a crucial role in constraining the parameter space conducive to this two-step transition. Furthermore, satisfying the nucleation condition necessitates the masses of scalar bosons in the hidden sector to align with the electroweak scale, potentially probed by future collider detectors. The stochastic gravitational wave energy spectrum associated with the phase transition is computed. The results indicate that forthcoming detectors such as BBO, LISA, DECIGO, TianQin and Taiji could potentially detect the gravitational wave signals generated by the first-order phase transition. Additionally, we find that the parameter space probed by gravitational waves can also be searched for in future dark matter direct detection experiments, in particular those designed for dark matter masses in the sub-GeV range using the superfluid Helium target detectors.

New Contributions to $b \to s γ$ in Minimal G2HDM

We study the flavor-changing bottom quark radiative decay $b \to s γ$ induced at one-loop level within the minimal gauged two-Higgs-doublet model (G2HDM). Among the three new contributions to this rare process in G2HDM, we find that only the charged Higgs $\mathcal{H^\pm}$ contribution can be constrained by the current global fit data in $B$-physics. Other two contributions from the complex vectorial dark matter $\mathcal{W}$ and dark Higgs $\mathcal{D}$ are not sensitive to the current data. Combining with theoretical constraints imposed on the scalar potential and electroweak precision data for the oblique parameters, we exclude mass regions $m_{\mathcal{H}^\pm} \lesssim 250$ GeV and $m_{\mathcal{D}} \lesssim 100$ GeV at the 95\% confidence level.

Self-interacting Vectorial Dark Matter in a SM-like Dark Sector

A $SU(2)_D \times U(1)_D$ gauge-Higgs sector, an exact dark copy of the Standard Model (SM) one, is proposed. It is demonstrated that the dark gauge bosons ${\cal W}^{(p,m)}$, in analogous to the SM $W^\pm$, can fulfill the role as a self-interacting vector dark matter candidate, solving the core versus cusp and missing satellites problems faced by the conventional paradigm of collisionless weakly interacting massive particle. Constraints from collider, astroparticle and cosmology on such a self-interacting vector dark matter candidate are scrutinized. Implications for the future searches of ${\cal W}^{(p,m)}$ in direct detection experiments are discussed.

GUT origins of general electroweak multiplets and their oblique parameters

We survey the scalar electroweak multiplets that can originate from a grand unified theory (GUT) like $SU(5)$, $SO(10)$ or $E_6$. We compute the oblique parameters $S$, $T$ and $U$ for a general scalar electroweak multiplet and then apply the results to the leptoquark, as well as the color sextet and octet cases, allowed by the GUT survey. Constraints from precision measurement data of the Standard Model $W$ boson mass and $ρ$ parameter to the mass splittings within each of these multiplets are presented. Extension to general vector electroweak multiplets is briefly discussed.

Charged Lepton Flavor Violating Radiative Decays $l_i \to l_j γ$ in G2HDM

We compute the electromagnetic form factors of the $l_i l_j γ$ vertex at one-loop level in the minimal G2HDM which has a sub-GeV vector dark matter candidate. The results are applied to the radiative decay rates for the charged lepton flavor violating processes $l_i \to l_j γ$, and the anomalous magnetic dipole moment and the electric dipole moment of the charged lepton. To numerically compute the branching ratio for $μ\to e γ$ and compare with the latest experimental limit from MEG, we adapt our previous parameter space scan that is consistent with the relic density and constraints from direct searches of dark matter, $W$ and $Z$ mass measurements, as well as the LHC Higgs signal strengths and invisible width. While the extra contributions are at least an order of magnitude smaller than required to explain the $\sim 4.2 σ$ discrepancy in the muon anomaly, the existing MEG limit imposes stringent constraint on the parameter space. The remaining viable parameter space can be further probed by the MEG II sensitivity for $μ\to e γ$ as well as from the direct searches of sub-GeV dark matter in foreseeable future. Higher loop contributions may be significant to resolve the discrepancy in the muon anomaly and generate a non-vanishing electric dipole moments for the standard model quarks and leptons in G2HDM.

Obliquely Scrutinizing a Hidden SM-like Gauge Model

In view of the recent high precision measurement of the Standard Model $W$ boson mass at the CDF II detector, we compute the contributions to the oblique parameters $S$, $T$ and $U$ coming from the two additional Higgs doublets (one inert and one hidden) as well as the hidden neutral dark gauge bosons and extra heavy fermions in the gauged two-Higgs-doublet model (G2HDM). While the effects from the hidden Higgs doublet and new heavy fermions are found to be minuscule, the hidden gauge sector $SU(2)_H \times U(1)_X$ with gauge coupling strength $\gtrsim 10^{-2}$ and gauge boson mass $\gtrsim 100$ GeV can readily explain the $W$ boson mass anomaly but nevertheless excluded by the dilepton high-mass resonance searches at the Large Hadron Collider. On the other hand, the new global fits to the oblique parameters due to the new $W$ boson mass measurement can give discernible impacts on the mass splitting and mixing angle for the inert Higgs doublet in G2HDM. We also study the impact to the signal strength of diphoton mode of the 125 GeV Higgs boson $h \to γγ$ and the detectability of the yet to observe process $h \to Z γ$ at the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. Current constraints for the dark matter candidate $W^\prime$ including the dark matter relic density, dark matter direct detections and invisible Higgs decays are also taken into account in this study.

A Sub-GeV Low Mass Hidden Dark Sector of $SU(2)_H \times U(1)_X$

We present a detailed study of the non-abelian vector dark matter candidate $W^\prime$ with a MeV-GeV low mass range, accompanied by a dark photon $A^\prime$ and a dark $Z^\prime$ of similar masses, in the context of a gauged two-Higgs-doublet model with the hidden gauge group that has the same structure as the Standard Model electroweak gauge group. The stability of dark matter is protected by an accidental discrete $Z_2$ symmetry ($h$-parity) which was usually imposed ad hoc by hand. We examine the model by taking into account various experimental constraints including dark photon searches at NA48, NA64, E141, $ν$-CAL, BaBar and LHCb experiments, electroweak precision data from LEP, relic density from Planck satellite, direct (indirect) detection of dark matter from CRESST-III, DarkSide-50, XENON1T (Fermi-LAT), and collider physics from the LHC. The theoretical requirements of bounded from below of the scalar potential and tree level perturbative unitarity of the scalar sector are also imposed. The viable parameter space of the model consistent with all the constraints is exhibited. While a dark $Z^\prime$ can be the dominant contribution in the relic density due to resonant annihilation of dark matter, a dark photon is crucial to dark matter direct detection. We also demonstrate that the parameter space can be further probed by various sub-GeV direct dark matter experimental searches at CDEX, NEWS-G and SuperCDMS in the near future.

Complementary Searches of Low Mass Non-Abelian Vector Dark Matter, Dark Photon and Dark $Z^\prime$

We present a novel study of the non-abelian vector dark matter candidate $W^\prime$ with a MeV$-$GeV low mass range, accompanied by a dark photon $A^\prime$ and a dark $Z^\prime$ of similar masses in the context of a simplified gauged two-Higgs-doublet model. The model is scrutinized by taking into account various experimental constraints including dark photon searches, electroweak precision data, relic density of dark matter together with its direct and indirect searches, mono-jet and Higgs collider physics from LHC. The viable parameter space of the model consistent with all experimental and theoretical constraints is exhibited. While a dark $Z^\prime$ can be the dominant contribution in the relic density due to resonant annihilation of dark matter, a dark photon is crucial to dark matter direct detection. We demonstrate that the parameter space can be further probed in the near future by sub-GeV dark matter experiments like CDEX, NEWS-G and SuperCDMS.

Circularly Polarized Gamma Rays in Effective Dark Matter Theory

We study the loop-induced circularly polarized gamma rays from dark matter annihilation using the effective dark matter theory approach. Both neutral scalar and fermionic dark matter annihilating into monochromatic diphoton and $Z$-photon final states are considered. To generate the circular polarization asymmetry, $P$ and $CP$ symmetries must be violated in the couplings between dark matter and Standard Model fermions inside the loop with non-vanishing Cutkosky cut. The asymmetry can be sizable especially for $Z$-photon final state for which asymmetry of nearly $90\%$ can be reached. We discuss the prospect for detecting the circular polarization asymmetry of the gamma-ray flux from dark matter annihilation in the Galactic Center in future gamma-ray polarimetry experiments.

Complex Scalar Dark Matter in G2HDM

The complex scalar dark matter (DM) candidate in the gauged two Higgs doublet model (G2HDM), stabilized by a peculiar hidden parity ($h$-parity), is studied in detail. We explore the parameter space for the DM candidate by taking into account the most recent DM constraints from various experiments, in particular, the PLANCK relic density measurement and the current DM direct detection limit from XENON1T. We separate our analysis in three possible compositions for the mixing of the complex scalar. We first constrain our parameter space with the vacuum stability and perturbative unitarity conditions for the scalar potential, LHC Higgs measurements, plus Drell-Yan and electroweak precision test constraints on the gauge sector. We find that DM dominated by composition of the inert doublet scalar is completely excluded by further combining the previous constraints with both the latest results from PLANCK and XENON1T. We also demonstrate that the remaining parameter space with two other DM compositions can be further tested by indirect detection like the future CTA gamma-ray telescope.

Consistency of Gauged Two Higgs Doublet Model: Gauge Sector

We study the constraints on the new parameters in the gauge sector of gauged two Higgs doublet model using the electroweak precision test data collected from the Large Electron Positron Collider (LEP) at and off the Z-pole as well as the current Drell-Yan and high-mass dilepton resonance data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Impacts on the new parameters by the projected sensitivities of various electroweak observables at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) proposed to be built in China are also discussed. We also clarify why the Stüeckelberg mass $M_Y$ for the hypercharge $U(1)_Y$ is set to be zero in the model by showing that it would otherwise lead to the violation of the standard charge assignments for the elementary quarks and leptons.

Consistency of a gauged two-Higgs-doublet model: Scalar sector

We study the theoretical and phenomenological constraints imposed on the scalar sector of the gauged two Higgs doublet model proposed recently as a variant of the popular inert Higgs doublet model of dark matter. The requirements of tree-level vacuum stability and perturbative unitarity in the scalar sector are analyzed in detail. Furthermore, taking into account the constraints from the 125 GeV Higgs boson measurements at the Large Hadron Collider, we map out the allowed ranges for the fundamental parameters of the scalar potential in the model.

Pair Production of Higgs Boson in G2HDM at the LHC

Pair production of Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is known to be important for the determination of Higgs boson self-coupling and the probe of new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), especially the existence of new fundamental scalar boson. In this paper we study in detail the Higgs pair production at the LHC in a well-motivated model, the Gauged Two Higgs Doublet Model (G2HDM) in which the two Higgs doublets are properly embedded into a gauged $SU(2)_H$ and a dark matter candidate emerges naturally due to the gauge symmetry. Besides the deviations of Higgs couplings from the SM predictions, the existence of new scalars could enhance the production cross section of Higgs boson pair at the LHC significantly. However, when we take into account the relic density of dark matter and the null result in its direct search, only moderate enhancement can be maintained. We also comment on the capability of distinguishing the signal of a new generic scalar from the SM at the LHC, assuming the Higgs pair production cross sections are the same.

Signals of New Gauge Bosons in Gauged Two Higgs Doublet Model

Recently a gauged two Higgs doublet model, in which the two Higgs doublets are embedded into the fundamental representation of an extra local $SU(2)_H$ group, is constructed. Both the new gauge bosons $Z^\prime$ and $W^{\prime (p,m)}$ are electrically neutral. While $Z^\prime$ can be singly produced at colliders, $W^{\prime (p,m)}$, which is heavier, must be pair produced. We explore the constraints of $Z^\prime$ using the current Drell-Yan type data from the Large Hadron Collider. Anticipating optimistically that $Z^\prime$ can be discovered via the clean Drell-Yan type signals at high luminosity upgrade of the collider, we explore the detectability of extra heavy fermions in the model via the two leptons/jets plus missing transverse energy signals from the exotic decay modes of $Z^\prime$. For the $W^{\prime (p,m)}$ pair production in a future 100 TeV proton-proton collider, we demonstrate certain kinematical distributions for the two/four leptons plus missing energy signals have distinguishable features from the Standard Model background. In addition, comparisons of these kinematical distributions between the gauged two Higgs doublet model and the littlest Higgs model with T-parity, the latter of which can give rise to the same signals with competitive if not larger cross sections, are also presented.
