Liquid crystal nose based on chiral photonic band gap materials: principles of selective response

Novel liquid crystalline (LC) compositions are suggested and studied as elements of LC-nose. This allows for optical detection of several volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Ethanol, toluene, pyridine and acetic acid were detected by means of colorimetric and spectroscopic techniques during their diffusion inside chiral elements of LC-nose. Selectivity to different VOCs is enhanced by means of components of liquid crystal matrix with different viscosity, affinities to the solvents, and abilities to form hydrogen bonding.

Antiferromagnetic phase transition in $Cr_{2}As$ via anisotropy of exchange interactions

The electronic structure of anti-ferromagnetic $Cr_{2}As$ is investigated. Anisotropy of exchange interactions between chrome sub-lattices is determined ($J^{X}(Cr_{I}-Cr_{II}) =4.77 meV,J^{Y}(Cr_{I}-Cr_{II}) =-6.36 meV$). The behavior of exchange integrals from magnetic structure is analyzed.

Electrodynamics of Nearly Ferroelectric Superconductors in the non-local Pippard limit

We report the structure of the magnetic field and secular current in a Nearly Ferroelectric Superconducting (NFE-SC) thin film. It was shown that unlike in conventional superconducting films, the external radiation causes alternating pattern of current strips. The strength of the innermost current torrents is governed by the laser field intensity as well as resonance with the ferroelectric component. The latter is modeled by secular reflection and random scattering in the Pippard non-local limit. Our calculations suggest that corresponding magnetic field pattern affects vortex formation in such material.
