The transverse momentum dependence of charged kaon Bose-Einstein correlations in the SELEX experiment

We report on the measurement of the one-dimensional charged kaon correlation functions using 600~GeV/{\it c} $Σ^-$, $π^-$ and 540~GeV/{\it c} $p$ beams from the SELEX~(E781) experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. $K^{\pm}K^{\pm}$ correlation functions are studied for three transverse pair momentum, $k_T$, ranges and parameterized by a Gaussian form. The emission source radii, $R$, and the correlation strength, $λ$, are extracted. The analysis shows a decrease of the source radii with increasing kaon transverse pair momentum for all beam types.

Metrology of EUV Masks by EUV-Scatterometry and Finite Element Analysis

Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography is seen as a main candidate for production of future generation computer technology. Due to the short wavelength of EUV light (around 13 nm) novel reflective masks have to be used in the production process. A prerequisite to meet the high quality requirements for these EUV masks is a simple and accurate method for absorber pattern profile characterization. In our previous work we demonstrated that the Finite Element Method (FEM) is very well suited for the simulation of EUV scatterometry and can be used to reconstruct EUV mask profiles from experimental scatterometric data. In this contribution we apply an indirect metrology method to periodic EUV line masks with different critical dimensions (140 nm and 540 nm) over a large range of duty cycles (1:2, ..., 1:20). We quantitatively compare the reconstructed absorber pattern parameters to values obtained from direct AFM and CD-SEM measurements. We analyze the reliability of the reconstruction for the given experimental data. For the CD of the absorber lines, the comparison shows agreement of the order of 1nm. Furthermore we discuss special numerical techniques like domain decomposition algorithms and high order finite elements and their importance for fast and accurate solution of the inverse problem.

Observation of a resonance in the K$_s$p decay channel at a mass of 1765 MeV/c$^2$

We report on the observation of a K$_s$p resonance signal at a mass of 1765$\pm$5 MeV/c$^2$, with intrinsic width $Γ= 108\pm 22$ MeV/c$^2$, produced inclusively in $Σ^-$-nucleus interactions at 340 GeV/c in the hyperon beam experiment WA89 at CERN. The signal was observed in the kinematic region $x_F>0.7$, in this region its production cross section rises approximately linearly with $(1-x_F)$, reaching $BR(X\to K_S p)\cdot dσ/dx_F = (5.2\pm 2.3) μb $ per nucleon at $x_F=0.8$. The hard \xf spectrum suggests the presence of a strong leading particle effect in the production and hence the identification as a $Σ^{*+}$ state. No corresponding peaks were observed in the $K^- p$ and $Λπ^{\pm}$ mass spectra.

Rigorous FEM-Simulation of EUV-Masks: Influence of Shape and Material Parameters

We present rigorous simulations of EUV masks with technological imperfections like side-wall angles and corner roundings. We perform an optimization of two different geometrical parameters in order to fit the numerical results to results obtained from experimental scatterometry measurements. For the numerical simulations we use an adaptive finite element approach on irregular meshes. This gives us the opportunity to model geometrical structures accurately. Moreover we comment on the use of domain decomposition techniques for EUV mask simulations. Geometric mask parameters have a great influence on the diffraction pattern. We show that using accurate simulation tools it is possible to deduce the relevant geometrical parameters of EUV masks from scatterometry measurements. This work results from a collaboration between Advanced Mask Technology Center (AMTC, mask fabrication), Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB, scatterometry), Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB), and JCMwave (numerical simulation).

Total Cross Section Measurements with pi-, Sigma- and Protons on Nuclei and Nucleons around 600 GeV/c

Total cross sections for Sigma- and pi- on beryllium, carbon, polyethylene and copper as well as total cross sections for protons on beryllium and carbon have been measured in a broad momentum range around 600GeV/c. These measurements were performed with a transmission technique adapted to the SELEX hyperon-beam experiment at Fermilab. We report on results obtained for hadron-nucleus cross sections and on results for sigma_tot(Sigma- N) and sigma_tot(pi- N), which were deduced from nuclear cross sections.
