An Improved Description of the Dielectric Breakdown in Oxides Based on a Generalized Weibull distribution

In this work, we address modal parameter fluctuations in statistical distributions describing charge-to-breakdown $(Q_{BD})$ and/or time-to-breakdown $(t_{BD})$ during the dielectric breakdown regime of ultra-thin oxides, which are of high interest for the advancement of electronic technology. We reobtain a generalized Weibull distribution ($q$-Weibull), which properly describes $(t_{BD})$ data when oxide thickness fluctuations are present, in order to improve reliability assessment of ultra-thin oxides by time-to-breakdown $(t_{BD})$ extrapolation and area scaling. The incorporation of fluctuations allows a physical interpretation of the $q$-Weibull distribution in connection with the Tsallis statistics. In support to our results, we analyze $t_{BD}$ data of SiO$_2$-based MOS devices obtained experimentally and theoretically through a percolation model, demonstrating an advantageous description of the dielectric breakdown by the $q$-Weibull distribution.

Critical behavior of the 3D-Ising model on a poissonian random lattice

The single-cluster Monte Carlo algorithm and the reweighting technique are used to simulate the 3D-ferromagnetic Ising model on three dimensional Voronoi-Delaunay lattices. It is assumed that the coupling factor $J$ varies with the distance $r$ between the first neighbors as $J(r) \propto e^{-ar}$, with $a \ge 0$. The critical exponents $γ/ν$, $β/ν$, and $ν$ are calculated, and according to the present estimates for the critical exponents, we argue that this random system belongs to the same universality class of the pure three-dimensional ferromegnetic Ising model.

Numerical calculation of the energy relative fluctuation for a system in contact with a finite heat bath

We use a scheme of separation of degrees of freedom for a system, in order to produce two systems with finite number of degrees of freedom. Our intent is to measure the energy square relative fluctuation (SRF) of the observable part through the simulation of two simple examples of composed systems, the harmonic oscillator, and the chain of quartic oscillators. We want to test the result found previously by us through the finite heat bath canonical ensemble (cond-mat/0210525), which is an application of Tsallis' statistics. We see that the results found here are in very good agreement with the theoretical predicted value. This suggests that this kind of finite systems is ergodic, and that they do not provide ``bad'' statistics.

Thermodynamics arising from Tsallis' thermostatistics

We show, in two different ways, that the Tsallis' partition function and its derivatives are related to thermodynamic quantities such as entropy, internal energy, etc., in the same way as in Boltzmann-Gibbs' formalism, with the Lagrange multiplier $β^{BG}$ replaced by its value $\frac{1}{k_BT}$. They are obtained within the finite heat bath canonical ensemble approach. Furthermore, we discuss the meaning of the Lagrange multiplier of the generalized framework, $β^T$, and show that the entropy found here is just the Rènyi entropy plus a definite constant.

Persistence in the Zero-Temperature Dynamics of the Random Ising Ferromagnet on a Voronoi-Delaunay lattice

The zero-temperature Glauber dynamic is used to investigate the persistence probability $P(t)$ in the randomic two-dimensional ferromagnetic Ising model on a Voronoi-Delaunay tessellation. We consider the coupling factor $J$ varying with the distance $r$ between the first neighbors to be $J(r) \propto e^{-αr}$, with $α\ge 0$. The persistence probability of spins flip, that does not depends on time $t$, is found to decay to a non-zero value $P(\infty)$ depending on the parameter $α$. Nevertheless, the quantity $p(t)=P(t)-P(\infty)$ decays exponentially to zero over long times. Furthermore, the fraction of spins that do not change at a time $t$ is a monotonically increasing function of the parameter $α$. Our results are consistent with the ones obtained for the diluted ferromagnetic Ising model on a square lattice.

Fluctuation of energy in the generalized thermostatistics

We calculate the fluctuation of the energy of a system in Tsallis statistics following the finite heat bath canonical ensemble approach. We obtain this fluctuation as the second derivative of the logarithm of the partition function plus an additional term. We also find an explicit expression for the relative fluctuation as related to the number of degrees of freedom of the bath and the composite system.

Microscopic analog of temperature within nonextensive thermostatistics

It is presented a microscopic interpretation for the temperature within Tsallis thermostatistics, generalizing the classical derivation based on the Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics. It is shown that with this definition the zeroth law and the equipartition theorem are valid in their classical form. Moreover, it is observed that the equation of state for an ideal gas within generalized thermostatistics preserves the classical Boyle's law form $PV=NkT$.

Transport Theory in the Context of the Normalized Generalized Statistics

In this work assuming valid the equipartition theorem and using the normalized q-expectation value, we obtain, until first order approximation, the hydrodynamics equation for the generalized statistics. This equations are different from those obtained in the context of the Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics. This difference is that now appears two transport coefficient that depend on the q-value.

Turbulent Effects on Fluid Flow through Disordered Porous Media

The influence of turbulent effects on a fluid flow through a (pseudo) porous media is studied by numerically solving the set of Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the $κ$-$ε$ model for turbulence. The spatial domains are two-dimensional rectangular grids with different {\it porosities} obtained by the random placing of rigid obstacles. The objective of the simulations is to access the behavior of the generalized friction factor with varying Reynolds number. A good agreement with the Forchheimer's equation is observed. The flow distribution at both low and high Reynolds conditions is also analyzed.

Critical Behavior of a Three-State Potts Model on a Voronoi Lattice

We use the single-histogram technique to study the critical behavior of the three-state Potts model on a (random) Voronoi-Delaunay lattice with size ranging from 250 to 8000 sites. We consider the effect of an exponential decay of the interactions with the distance,$J(r)=J_0\exp(-ar)$, with $a>0$, and observe that this system seems to have critical exponents $γ$ and $ν$ which are different from the respective exponents of the three-state Potts model on a regular square lattice. However, the ratio $γ/ν$ remains essentially the same. We find numerical evidences (although not conclusive, due to the small range of system size) that the specific heat on this random system behaves as a power-law for $a=0$ and as a logarithmic divergence for $a=0.5$ and $a=1.0$

Critical behavior of the S=1/2 Heisenberg ferromagnet: A Handscomb quantum Monte Carlo study

We investigate the critical relaxational dynamics of the S=1/2 Heisenberg ferromagnet on a simple cubic lattice within the Handscomb prescription on which it is a diagrammatic series expansion of the partition function that is computed by means of a Monte Carlo procedure. Using a phenomenological renormalization group analysis of graph quantities related to the spin susceptibility and order parameter, we obtain precise estimates for the critical exponents relations $γ/ ν= 1.98\pm 0.01 $ and $β/ν= 0.512 \pm 0.002$ and for the Curie temperature $k_BT_c/J = 1.6778 \pm 0.0002$. The critical correlation time of both energy and susceptibility is also computed. We found that the number of Monte Carlo steps needed to generate uncorrelated diagram configurations scales with the system's volume. We estimate the efficiency of the Handscomb method comparing its ability in dealing with the critical slowing down with that of other quantum and classical Monte Carlo prescriptions.

Inertial Effects on Fluid Flow through Disordered Media

We investigate the origin of the deviations from the classical Darcy law by numerical simulation of the Navier-Stokes equations in two-dimensional disordered porous media. We apply the Forchheimer equation as a phenomenological model to correlate the variations of the friction factor for different porosities and flow conditions. At sufficiently high Reynolds numbers, when inertia becomes relevant, we observe a transition from linear to non-linear behavior which is typical of experiments. We find that such a transition can be understood and statistically characterized in terms of the spatial distribution of kinetic energy in the system.

Inertial Effects on Fluid Flow through Disordered Porous Media

We study the fluid flow through disordered porous media by numerically solving the complete set of the Navier-Stokes equations in a two dimensional lattice with a spatially random distribution of solid obstacles (plaquettes). We simulate viscous and non-viscous flow through these idealized pore spaces to determine the origin of the deviations from the classical Darcy's law behavior. Due to the non-linear contribution of inertia to the transport of momentum at the pore scale, we observe a typical departure from Darcy's law at sufficiently high Reynolds numbers. Moreover, we show that the classical Forchheimer equation provides a valid phenomenological model to correlate the variations of the friction factor of the porous media over a wide range of Reynolds conditions.

Power-Law Sensitivity to Initial Conditions within a Logistic-like Family of Maps: Fractality and Nonextensivity

Power-law sensitivity to initial conditions, characterizing the behaviour of dynamical systems at their critical points (where the standard Liapunov exponent vanishes), is studied in connection with the family of nonlinear 1D logistic-like maps $x_{t+1} = 1 - a | x_t |^z, (z > 1; 0 < a \le 2; t=0,1,2,...)$ The main ingredient of our approach is the generalized deviation law $\lim_{Δx(0) -> 0} Δx(t) / Δx(0)} = [1+(1-q)λ_q t]^{1/(1-q)}$ (equal to $e^{λ_1 t}$ for q=1, and proportional, for large t, to $t^{1/(1-q)}$ for $q \ne 1; q \in R$ is the entropic index appearing in the recently introduced nonextensive generalized statistics). The relation between the parameter q and the fractal dimension d_f of the onset-to-chaos attractor is revealed: q appears to monotonically decrease from 1 (Boltzmann-Gibbs, extensive, limit) to -infinity when d_f varies from 1 (nonfractal, ergodic-like, limit) to zero.
