Heavy quark correlators in Instanton Liquid Model with perturbative corrections

In the present work we consider the influence on the heavy quark correlators due to the instanton background in the framework of instanton liquid model (ILM) of QCD vacuum by taking into account also the perturbative gluon effects. For a single heavy quark this leads to the mass shift due to the direct-instanton nonperturbative and ILM modified perturbative contributions, respectively. In the heavy quark-antiquark ($Q\bar{Q}$) sector we obtain the potential consisting the direct instanton induced part and the one-gluon exchange (OGE) perturbative part which is screened at large distances due to the nonperturbative dynamics. At the region of interest corresponding to the heavy quark physics the screening effect in OGE can be well approximated by a Yukawa-type potential in terms of the dynamically generated gluon mass. A possible implication of the present studies to the phenomenology of heavy quarkonium is also discussed.

Neutron-Proton Mass Difference in Nuclear Matter and in Finite Nuclei and the Nolen-Schiffer Anomaly

The neutron-proton mass difference in (isospin asymmetric) nuclear matter and finite nuclei is studied in the framework of a medium-modified Skyrme model. The proposed effective Lagrangian incorporates both the medium influence of the surrounding nuclear environment on the single nucleon properties and an explicit isospin-breaking effect in the mesonic sector. Energy-dependent charged and neutral pion optical potentials in the s- and p-wave channels are included as well. The present approach predicts that the neutron-proton mass difference is mainly dictated by its strong part and that it markedly decreases in neutron matter. Furthermore, the possible interplay between the effective nucleon mass in finite nuclei and the Nolen-Schiffer anomaly is discussed. In particular, we find that a correct description of the properties of mirror nuclei leads to a stringent restriction of possible modifications of the nucleon's effective mass in nuclei.

Hadrons from a hard wall AdS/QCD model

We review a recent work on masses of mesons and nucleons within a hard wall model of holographic QCD in a unified approach. In order to treat meson and nucleon properties on the same footing, we introduced the same infrared (IR) cut for both sectors. In framework of present approach, the best fit to the experimental data is achieved introducing the anomalous dimension for baryons.

Neutron-proton mass difference in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter

Isospin-breaking effects in the baryonic sector are studied in the framework of a medium-modified Skyrme model. The neutron-proton mass difference in infinite, asymmetric nuclear matter is discussed. In order to describe the influence of the nuclear environment on the skyrmions, we include energy-dependent charged and neutral pion optical potentials in the s- and p-wave channels. The present approach predicts that the neutron-proton mass difference is mainly dictated by its strong part and that it strongly decreases in neutron matter.

Neutron-proton mass difference in nuclear matter

Isospin-breaking effects in nuclear matter are studied in the framework of a medium-modified Skyrme model. The proposed effective Lagrangian incorporates both the medium influence of the surrounding nuclear environment on the single nucleon properties and an explicit isospin-breaking effect in the mesonic sector. The approach predicts that the neutron-proton mass difference decreases in isospin-symmetric nuclear matter but by a very small amount only.

Is there a crystalline state of nuclear matter?

A possibility of the crystalline state of nuclear matter is discussed in a medium--modified Skyrme model. The interaction energy per nucleon in nuclear matter is evaluated by taking into account the medium influence on single nucleon--skyrmion properties and the tensor part of the nucleon--nucleon potential, and by using a variational method of Hartree--Fock type including zero--point quantum fluctuations. It is shown that in this approach the ground state of nuclear matter has no crystalline structure due to quantum fluctuations as well as medium modifications of hadron properties.

Nucleon-nucleon potential in finite nuclei

We consider the spin-isospin-independent central part of the residual nucleon-nucleon potential in finite spherical nuclei taking into account the deformation effects of the nucleons within the surrounding nuclear environment. It is shown that inside the nucleus the short-range repulsive contribution of the potential is increased and the intermediate attraction is decreased. We identify the growth of the radial component of the spin-isospin independent short-range part of the in-medium nucleon-nucleon interaction as the responsible agent that prevents the radial collapse of the nucleus.

Meson-Nucleon Vertex Form Factors at Finite Temperature Using a Soft Pion Form Factor

The temperature and density dependence of the meson-nucleon vertex form factors is studied in the framework of thermofield dynamics. Results are obtained for two rather different nucleon-nucleon potentials: the usual Bonn potential and the variation with a softer $πNN$ form factor, due to Holinde and Thomas. In general, the results show only a modest degree of sensitivity to the choice of interaction.

The Role of Mass Asymmetry and Shell Structure in the Evaporation Residues Production

The effects of the entrance channel and shell structure of reacting nuclei on the experimental evaporation residues have been studied by analysing the 40Ar+176Hf, 86Kr+130,136Xe, 124Sn+92Zr and 48Ca+174Yb reactions leading to the 216Th* and 222Th* compound nuclei. The measured excitation function of evaporation residues for the 124Sn+92Zr reaction was larger than that for the 86Kr+130Xe reaction. The experimental values of evaporation residues in the 86Kr+136Xe reaction were about 500 times larger than that in the 86Kr+130Xe reaction. These results are explained by the initial angular momentum dependence of the fusion excitation functions calculated in framework of the dinuclear system concept and by the differences in survival probabilities calculated in framework of advanced statistical model. The dependencies of the fission barrier and the Γ_n / Γ_f ratio on the angular momentum of the excited compound nucleus are taken into account.

Nucleon deformation in finite nuclei

The deformation of a nucleon embedded in various finite nuclei is considered by taking into account the distortion of the chiral profile functions under the action of an external field representing the nuclear density. The baryon charge distribution of the nucleon inside light, medium-heavy and heavy nuclei is discussed. The mass of the nucleon decreases as it is placed deeper inside the nucleus and reaches its minimum at the center of the nucleus. We discuss the quantization of non-spherical solitons and its consequences for the mass splitting of the delta states. We show that bound nucleons acquire an intrinsic quadrupole moment due to the deformation effects. These effects are maximal for densities of nuclei about ρ(R)\sim 0.3...0.35 ρ(0). We also point out that scale changes of the electromagnetic radii can not simply be described by an overall swelling factor.

Meson - nucleon vertex form factors at finite temperature

In this paper the dependence of meson-nucleon-nucleon vertex form factors is studied as a function of termperature. The results are obtained starting from a zero temperature Bonn potential. The temperature dependence of the vertex form factors and radii is studied in the thermofield dynamics, a real-time operator formalism of finite temperature field theory. It is anticipated that these results will have an impact on the study of relativistic heavy-ion collisions as the critical temperature for the phase transition from hadronic to quark-gluon system is approached.

Density dependence of meson - nucleon vertices in nuclear matter

Changes in the meson-nucleon coupling constant and the vertex form factor in nuclear matter are studied in a modified Skyrme Lagrangian including the sigma-meson field that satisfies the scale invariance. Renormalization of the axial-vector coupling constant, and the nucleon mass are studied in a consistent model. The results are consistent with the empirical evidence. A calculation of pi N commutator, sigma-term, indicates that the medium changes its magnitude considerably.
