Effective Hamiltonian for Non-Leptonic |Delta F| = 1 Decays at NNLO in QCD

We compute the effective hamiltonian for non-leptonic |Delta F| = 1 decays in the standard model including next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections. In particular, we present the complete three-loop anomalous dimension matrix describing the mixing of current-current and QCD penguin operators. The calculation is performed in an operator basis which allows to consistently use fully anticommuting gamma_5 in dimensional regularization at an arbitrary number of loops. The renormalization scheme dependences and their cancellation in physical quantities is discussed in detail. Furthermore, we demonstrate how our results are transformed to a different basis of effective operators which is frequently adopted in phenomenological applications. We give all necessary two-loop constant terms which allow to obtain the three-loop anomalous dimensions and the corresponding initial conditions of the two-loop Wilson coefficients in the latter scheme. Finally, we solve the renormalization group equation and give the analytic expressions for the low-energy Wilson coefficients relevant for non-leptonic B meson decays beyond next-to-leading order in both renormalization schemes.

Something about Z-penguins I want to tell

We stress that in models with constrained minimal flavor violation large negative corrections to the flavor-changing Z-penguin amplitudes are excluded by the precision measurements of the Z -> b anti-b pseudo observables performed at LEP and SLC. The derived stringent range for the non-standard contribution to the universal Inami-Lim function C leads to tight two-sided limits for the branching ratios of all Z-penguin dominated flavor-changing K- and B-decays.

Anti-B --> X(s) gamma: Standard Model and Beyond

We present a concise review of the recent theoretical progress concerning the standard model calculation of the inclusive radiative anti-B --> X(s) gamma decay. Particular attention is thereby devoted to the calculations of the next-to-next-to-leading order fixed-order O(alpha_s^2) contributions, non-local O(alpha_s Lambda/m_b) power corrections, and logarithmic-enhanced O(alpha_s^2) cut-effects to the decay rate. The current status of various beyond the standard model calculations of the inclusive b --> s gamma mode is also summarized.

Anti-B --> X(s) gamma in two universal extra dimensions

We calculate the leading order corrections to the anti-B --> X(s) gamma decay in the standard model with two large flat universal extra dimensions. We find that the contributions involving the exchange of Kaluza-Klein modes of the physical scalar field a^+-_(kl) depend logarithmically on the ultraviolet cut-off scale Lambda. We emphasize that all flavor-changing neutral current transitions suffer from this problem. Although the ultraviolet sensitivity weakens the lower bound on the inverse compactification radius 1/R that follows from anti-B --> X(s) gamma, the constraint remains stronger than any other available direct measurement. After performing a careful study of the potential impact of cut-off and higher-order effects, we find 1/R > 650 GeV at 95% confidence level if errors are combined in quadrature. Our limit is at variance with the parameter region 1/R <~ 600 GeV preferred by dark matter constraints.

Determining the Sign of the Z-Penguin Amplitude

We point out that the precision measurements of the pseudo observables R_b^0, A_b, and A_FB^0,b performed at LEP and SLC suggest that in models with minimal-flavor-violation the sign of the Z-penguin amplitude is identical to the one present in the standard model. We determine the allowed range for the non-standard contribution to the Inami-Lim function C and show by analyzing possible scenarios with positive and negative interference of standard model and new physics contributions, that the derived bound holds in each given case. Finally, we derive lower and upper limits for the branching ratios of K^+ -> pi^+ nu nubar, K_L -> pi^0 nu nubar, K_L -> mu^+ mu^-, B -> X_d,s nu nubar, and B_d,s -> mu^+ mu^- within constrained minimal-flavor-violation making use of the wealth of available data collected at the Z-pole.

Rare K- (vs.) B-decays

We present a concise review of the recent theoretical progress concerning the standard model calculations of the rare K_L -> pi^0 nu anti-nu, K^+ -> pi^+ nu anti-nu (gamma), anti-B -> X_s gamma, and anti-B -> X_s l^+ l^- decays. The current status and future of the model-independent analysis of rare K- and B-meson decays within constrained minimal-flavor-violation is also briefly discussed.

Bound on minimal universal extra dimensions from Bbar -> X_s gamma

We reexamine the constraints on universal extra dimensional models arising from the inclusive radiative Bbar -> X_s gamma decay. We take into account the leading order contributions due to the exchange of Kaluza-Klein modes as well as the available next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to the Bbar -> X_s gamma branching ratio in the standard model. For the case of one large flat universal extra dimension, we obtain a lower bound on the inverse compactification radius 1/R > 600 GeV at 95% confidence level that is independent of the Higgs mass.

How To Kill a Penguin

Within constrained minimal-flavor-violation the large destructive flavor-changing Z-penguin managed to survive eradication so far. We give a incisive description of how to kill it using the precision measurements of the Z -> b anti-b pseudo observables. The derived stringent range for the non-standard contribution to the universal Inami-Lim function C leads to tight two-sided limits for the branching ratios of all Z-penguin dominated flavor-changing K- and B-decays.

Four-Loop Anomalous Dimensions for Radiative Flavour-Changing Decays

We evaluate the complete four-loop anomalous dimension matrix that is necessary for determining the effective flavour-changing neutral current couplings qbar-q'-gamma and qbar-q'-g at the next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD. The resulting O(alpha_s^2(mu_b)) correction to the B -> X_s gamma branching ratio amounts to around -2.9% for mu_b = 5 GeV, and -4.4% for mu_b = 2.5 GeV

Theoretical Status of K->pinunubar Decays

We present a concise review of the theoretical status of rare K->pinunubar decays in and beyond the standard model. Particular attention is thereby devoted to the recent calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to the charm quark contribution of K^+->pi^+nunubar which removes the last relevant theoretical uncertainty from the K->pinunubar system.

Three-Loop Mixing of Dipole Operators

We calculate the complete three-loop O(alpha_s^3) anomalous dimension matrix for the dimension-five dipole operators that arise in the Standard Model after integrating out the top quark and the heavy electroweak bosons. Our computation completes the three-loop anomalous dimension matrix of operators that govern low-energy |Delta F| = 1 flavor-changing processes, and represents an important ingredient of the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD analysis of the Bbar -> X_s gamma decay.

Determining the sign of the b -> s gamma amplitude

The latest Belle and BaBar measurements of the inclusive B -> X_s l^+ l^- branching ratio have smaller errors and lower central values than the previous ones. We point out that these results indicate that the sign of the b -> s gamma amplitude is the same as in the SM. This underscores the importance of B -> X_s l^+ l^- in searches for new physics, and may be relevant for neutralino dark matter analyses within the MSSM.

Anomalous Dimension Matrix for Radiative and Rare Semileptonic B Decays up to Three Loops

We compute the complete O(alphas^2) anomalous dimension matrix relevant for the b to s gamma, b to s gluon and b to s l+l- transitions in the standard model and some of its extensions. For radiative decays we confirm the results of Misiak and Munz, and of Chetyrkin, Misiak and Munz. The O(alphas^2) mixing of four-quark into semileptonic operators is instead a new result and represents one of the last missing ingredients of the next-to-next-to-leading-order analysis of rare semileptonic B meson decays.

Complete electroweak matching for radiative B decays

We compute the complete two-loop O(alpha) Wilson coefficients relevant for radiative decays of the B meson in the SM. This is a necessary step in the calculation of the O(alpha alpha_s^n ln^n m_b/M_W) corrections and improves on our previous analysis of electroweak effects in B -> X_s gamma. We describe in detail several interesting technical aspects of the calculation and include all dominant QED matrix elements. In our final result, we neglect only terms originated from the unknown O(alpha alpha_s) evolution of the Wilson coefficients and some suppressed two-loop matrix elements. Due to the compensation among different effects, we find that non-trivial electroweak corrections decrease the branching ratio by about 3.6% for a light Higgs boson, very close to our previous result. The corresponding up-to-date SM prediction for the branching ratio with E_gamma > 1.6 GeV is (3.61 +- 0.30) x 10^-4.

Electroweak effects in radiative B decays

We compute the two-loop electroweak corrections to the radiative decays of the B meson in the SM. Electroweak effects reduce the Wilson coefficient C_7^eff(mw) by 2.6% for a light Higgs boson of about 100 GeV and are less important for a heavier Higgs. The leading term of a heavy top expansion of our result differs from the one obtained in the gaugeless approximation where only top quark Yukawa couplings are considered: we discuss the origin of the discrepancy and provide a criterion for the validity of the gaugeless approximation. As a byproduct of the calculation we also obtain the O(alpha) corrections to the Wilson coefficient of the four-fermion operator Q_2. A careful analysis of the interplay between electroweak and QCD effects leads to an overall 2% reduction of the total branching ratio for B -> X_s gamma due to purely electroweak corrections. For a light Higgs boson, the up-to-date SM prediction is BR_gamma=3.29 10^-4.
