QCD threshold corrections for gluino pair production at hadron colliders

We present the complete threshold enhanced predictions in QCD for the total cross section of gluino pair production at hadron colliders at next-to-next-to-leading order. Thanks to the computation of the required one-loop hard matching coefficients our results are accurate to the next-to-next-to-leading logarithm. In a brief phenomenological study we provide predictions for the total hadronic cross sections at the LHC and we discuss the uncertainties arising from scale variations and the parton distribution functions.

Measurement of radiative neutralino production

We perform the first experimental study with full detector simulation for the radiative production of neutralinos at the linear collider, at sqrt{s} = 500 GeV and realistic beam polarizations. We consider all relevant backgrounds, like the Standard Model background from radiative neutrino production. The longitudinal polarized beams enhance the signal and simultaneously reduce the background, such that statistical errors are significantly reduced. We find that the photon spectrum from the signal process can be well isolated. The neutralino mass and the cross section can be measured at a few per-cent level, with the largest systematic uncertainties from the measurement of the beam polarization and the beam energy spectrum.

Model-independent WIMP Characterisation using ISR

The prospects of measuring the parameters of WIMP dark matter in a model independent way at the International Linear Collider are investigated. The signal under study is direct WIMP pair production with associated initial state radiation. The analysis is performed in full simulation of the ILD detector concept. With an integrated luminosity of L = 500 fb-1 and realistic beam polarizations the helicity structure of the WIMP couplings to electrons can be determined, and the masses and cross sections can be measured to the percent level. The systematic uncertainties are dominated by the polarization measurement and the luminosity spectrum.

Threshold Improved QCD Corrections for Stop-Antistop production at Hadron colliders

I present improved predictions for the total hadronic cross section of stop-antistop production at hadron colliders including next-to-next-to-leading-order threshold corrections and approximated Coulomb corrections. The results are based on soft corrections, which are logarithmically enhanced near threshold. I present analytic formulas for the NNLO scaling functions at threshold and explicit numbers for the total hadronic cross sections for the Tevatron and the LHC. Finally I discuss the systematic error, the scale uncertainty and the PDF error of the hadronic cross section.

Measuring the running Top quark mass

In this contribution we discuss conceptual issues of current mass measurements performed at the Tevatron. In addition we propose an alternative method which is theoretically much cleaner and to a large extend free from the problems encountered in current measurements. In detail we discuss the direct determination of the top-quark's running mass from the cross section measurements performed at the Tevatron.

Rare meson decays into very light neutralinos

We investigate the bounds on the mass of the lightest neutralino from rare meson decays within the MSSM with and without minimal flavor violation. We present explicit formulae for the two-body decays of mesons into light neutralinos and perform the first complete calculation of the loop-induced decays of kaons to pions and light neutralinos and B mesons to kaons and light neutralinos. We find that the supersymmetric branching ratios are strongly suppressed within the MSSM with minimal flavor violation, and that no bounds on the neutralino mass can be inferred from experimental data, i.e. a massless neutralino is allowed. The branching ratios for kaon and B meson decays into light neutralinos may, however, be enhanced when one allows for non-minimal flavor violation. We find new constraints on the MSSM parameter space for such scenarios and discuss prospects for future kaon and B meson experiments. Finally, we comment on the search for light neutralinos in monojet signatures at the Tevatron and at the LHC.

Higher-order soft corrections to squark hadro-production

We present new predictions for the total cross section of squark pair-production at Tevatron and LHC through next-to-next-to-leading order within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The results are based on the numerically dominant soft corrections. They are exact in all logarithmically enhanced terms near threshold, include the Coulomb corrections at two loops and exact scale dependence. We translate the increased total cross section at next-to-next-to-leading order into improved exclusion limits for squark masses and we investigate the scale dependence as well as the sensitivity on the parton luminosity.

The Role of Beam polarization for Radiative Neutralino Production at the ILC

We analyze the impact of electron and positron beam polarization on radiative neutralino production at the International Linear Collider (ILC). We focus on three different mSUGRA scenarios in turn at the Higgs strahlung threshold, the top pair production threshold, and at $\sqrt{s} =500\GeV$. In these scenarios at the corresponding $\sqrt{s}$, radiative neutralino production is the only supersymmetric production mechanism which is kinematically allowed. The heavier neutralinos, and charginos as well as the sleptons, squarks and gluinos are too heavy to be pair produced. We calculate the signal cross section and also the Standard Model background from radiative neutrino production. For our scenarios, we obtain significances larger than 10 and signal to background ratios between 2% and 5%, if we have electron beam polarization $P_{e^-} = 0.0- 0.8$ and positron beam polarization $P_{e^+} = 0.0 - 0.3$. If we have electron beam polarization of $P_{e^-} = 0.9$, then the signal is observable with $P_{e^+} = 0.0$ but both the significance and the signal to background ratio are significantly improved for $P_{e^+} = 0.3$.

Constraints on Neutralino masses and mixings from Cosmology and Collider Physics

Bounds on cross section measurements of chargino pair production at LEP yield a bound on the chargino mass. If the GUT relation is assumed, the lightest neutralino must be heavier than $\approx 45 -50\GeV$. If no GUT relation is assumed, no lower bound on the neutralino mass exists. I derive mass bounds on the lightest neutralino from relic density measurements for relativistic and non-relativistic neutralinos and I derive bounds on the selectron mass from the observed limits on the cross section of the neutralino pair production process $e^+e^-\to \x{1}\x{2}$ at LEP, if the lightest neutralino is massless. I further discuss radiative neutralino production and its background at the future ILC. Finally, I present a method to determine the neutralino couplings to right and left handed selectrons and Z bosons from cross section measurements of radiative neutralino production and neutralino pair production at the ILC.

Polarization aspects in radiative neutralino production

We study the impact of beam polarization on radiative neutralino production e+e- \to χ^0_1 χ^0_1 photon at the International Linear Collider. We show that longitudinal polarized beams significantly enhance the signal and simultaneously reduce the Standard Model background from radiative neutrino production e+e- \to ν\barνphoton. We point out that the radiative production of neutralinos could be the only accessible SUSY particles, if neutralinos, charginos, sleptons, as well as squarks and gluinos are too heavy to be pair-produced in the first stage of the ILC at sqrt{s} = 500 GeV.

Discovery potential of radiative neutralino production at the ILC

We study radiative neutralino production e^+e^- \to \tildeχ^0_1 \tildeχ^0_1γat the linear collider with longitudinally polarised beams. We consider the Standard Model background from radiative neutrino production e^+e^- \to ν\barνγ, and the supersymmetric radiative production of sneutrinos e^+e^- \to \tildeν\tildeν^\ast γ, which can be a background for invisible sneutrino decays. We give the complete tree-level formulas for the amplitudes and matrix elements squared. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, we study the dependence of the cross sections on the beam polarisations, on the parameters of the neutralino sector, and on the selectron masses. We show that for bino-like neutralinos longitudinal polarised beams enhance the signal and simultaneously reduce the background, such that statistics is significantly enhanced. We point out that there are parameter regions where radiative neutralino production is the only channel to study SUSY particles, since heavier neutralinos, charginos and sleptons are too heavy to be pair-produced in the first stage of the linear collider with \sqrt{s}=500 GeV.

Eine untere Massenschranke fuer Neutralinos aus Supernova-Kuehlung

In my diploma thesis I calculate a lower mass bound of the lightest nutralino assuming an additional supernova cooling mechanism. I consider elektron-positron annihilation and nucleon-nucleon bremsstrahlung as cooling processes. These cooling processes must not be too effective because they would destroy the neutrino signal (SN 1987a). From this requirement I derive an upper bound for the emitted energy and as a consequence I get a lower bound for the mass of the lightest neutralino.
