Radial oscillations and gravitational wave echoes of strange stars for various equations of state

We study the radial oscillations of non-rotating strange stars and their characteristic echo frequencies for three Equations of state (EoSs), viz., MIT Bag model EoS, linear EoS and polytropic EoS. The frequencies of radial oscillations of these compact stars are computed for these EoSs. 22 lowest radial frequencies for each of these three EoSs have been computed. First, for each EoS, we have integrated Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equations numerically to calculate the radial and pressure perturbations of strange stars. Next, the mass-radius relationships for these stars are obtained using these three EoSs. Then the radial frequencies of oscillations for these EoSs are calculated. Further, the characteristic gravitational wave echo frequencies and the repetition of echo frequencies of strange stars are computed for these EoSs. Our numerical results show that the radial frequencies and also echo frequencies vastly depend on the model and on the value of the model parameter. Our results also show that, the radial frequencies of strange stars are maximum for polytropic EoS in comparison to MIT Bag model EoS and linear EoS. Moreover, strange stars with MIT Bag model EoS and linear EoS are found to emit gravitational wave echoes. Whereas, strange stars with polytropic EoS are not emitting gravitational wave echoes.

Gravitational Waves in f(R) Gravity Power Law Model

We investigate the different polarization modes of Gravitational Waves (GWs) in $f(R)$ gravity power law model in de Sitter space. It is seen that the massive scalar field polarization mode exists in this model. The mass of the scalar field depends highly on the background curvature and the power term $n$. However, we found that the model doesnot exhibit a massive scalar mode for $n=2$ and instead it shows a breathing mode in addition to the tensor plus and cross modes. Thus mass of the scalar field is found to vary with $n$ within the range $1 \leq n \leq 2$.

A new f(R) Gravity Model and properties of Gravitational Waves in it

In this paper, we have introduced a new $f(R)$ gravity model as an attempt to have a model with more parametric control, so that the model can be used to explain the existing problems as well as to explore new directions in physics of gravity, by properly constraining it with recent observational data. Here basic aim is to study the properties of Gravitational Waves (GWs) in this new model. In $f(R)$ gravity metric formalism, the model shows the existence of scalar degree of freedom as like other $f(R)$ gravity models. Due to this reason, there is a scalar mode of polarization of GWs present in the theory. This polarization mode exists in a mixed state, of which one is transverse massless breathing mode with non-vanishing trace and the other is massive longitudinal mode. The longitudinal mode being massive, travels at speed less than the usual tensor modes found in General Relativity (GR). Moreover, for a better understanding of the model, we have studied the potential and mass of scalar graviton in both Jordan frame and Einstein frame. This model can pass the solar system tests and can explain primordial and present dark energy. Also, we have put constraints on the model. It is found that the correlation function for the third mode of polarization under certain mass scale predicted by the model agrees well with the recent data of Pulsar Timing Arrays. It seems that this new model would be useful in dealing with different existing issues in the areas of astrophysics and cosmology.

Spin transport and Spin Tunnelling Magneto-Resistance (STMR) of F$|$NCSC$|$F spin valve

In this work, we study the spin transport at the Ferromagnet$|$Noncentrosymmetric Superconductor (F$|$NCSC) junction of a Ferromagnet$|$Noncentrosymmetric Superconductor$|$Ferromagnet (F$|$NCSC$|$F) spin valve. We investigate the Tunnelling Spin-Conductance (TSC), spin current and Spin Tunnelling Magneto-Resistance (STMR), and their dependence on various important parameters like Rashba Spin-Orbit Coupling (RSOC), strength and orientation of magnetization, an external in-plane magnetic field, barrier strength and a significant Fermi Wavevector Mismatch (FWM) at the ferromagnetic and superconducting regions. The study has been carried out for different singlet-triplet mixing of the NCSC gap parameter. We develop Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian and use the extended Blonder - Tinkham - Klapwijk (BTK) approach along with the scattering matrix formalism to calculate the scattering coefficients. Our results strongly suggest that the TSC is highly dependent on RSOC, magnetization strength and its orientation, and singlet-triplet mixing of the gap parameter. It is observed that NCSC with moderate RSOC shows maximum conductance for a partially opaque barrier in presence of low external magnetic field. For a strongly opaque barrier and a nearly transparent barrier a moderate value and a low value of field respectively are found to be suitable. Moreover, NCSC with large singlet component is appeared to be useful. In addition, for NCSC with large RSOC and low magnetization strength, a giant STMR ($\%$) is observed. We have also seen that the spin current is strongly magnetization orientation dependent. With the increase in bias voltage spin current increases in transverse direction, but the component along the direction of flow is almost independent.

Supersymmetric hybrid inflation with non-minimal coupling to gravity

We have studied the paradigm of cosmic inflation using the simplest model based on the idea of supersymmetric hybrid inflation with non-minimal coupling to gravity, specially under the slow-roll approximation following the superconformal approach to supergravity. It is found that within a range of values of the non-minimal coupling parameter $ξ$, the model can accommodate the inflation data reported by the Planck ($n_s$ and upper limit of $r$) and BICEP2/Keck (upper limit of $r$) collaborations. The study shows that the most probable value of $ξ$ should be $\sim 0.0134\pm0.0005$. That is coupling is found to be very week. Within this range of $ξ$, the values of $r$ estimated from our model for $50 - 70$ e-foldings are found to be laying well below the upper limits set by the Planck and BICEP2/Keck collaborations. Similarly, values of $n_s$ obtained for the said parameters are in good agreement with its latest data of the Planck collaboration. The constraint equations for the running of the scalar spectral index $n_{sk}$ and its running $n_{skk}$ are derived from the numerical solutions of our model for these parameters. These equations can be used to test our model from the data of future cosmological observations.

Effect of Rashba spin-orbit coupling, magnetization and mixing of gap parameter on tunnelling conductance in F$|$NCSC junction of an F$|$S$|$F spin valve

In this paper, we study the quantum transport at the Ferromagnet$|$Noncentrosymmetric Superconductor (F$|$NCSC) interface of an F$|$S$|$F spin valve. In this context, we investigate the tunneling conductance and its dependence on Rashba Spin-Orbit Coupling (RSOC) considering different barrier strength and a significant Fermi Wave-vector Mismatch (FWM) at the ferromagnetic and superconducting regions. The study is carried out for different magnetization orientations and its strength. We developed Bogoliubov de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian introducing RSOC and exchange interaction for such an hybrid structure. To study charge conductance we use an extended Blonder - Tinkham - Klapwijk (BTK) approach along with scattering matrix formalism to calculate the scattering coefficients. Our results strongly suggest that the tunneling conductance is strongly dependent on RSOC, magnetization strength, its orientation and the FWM. The work has also been done for different singlet-triplet mixing of the gap parameter. We have observed that with the rise of singlet-triplet mixing ratio the conductance decreases. It is also observed that a transparent barrier with moderate RSOC and having moderate magnetization strength with arbitrary orientation is highly suitable for maximum conductance.

Current induced magnetization dynamics and magnetization switching in superconducting ferromagnetic hybrid (F$|$S$|$F) structures

We investigate the current induced magnetization dynamics and magnetization switching in an unconventional p-wave superconductor sandwiched between two misaligned ferromagnetic layers by numerically solving Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation modified with current induced Slonczewski's spin torque term. A modified form of Ginzburg-Landau free energy functional has been used for this purpose. We demonstrated the possibility of current induced magnetization switching in the spin-triplet ferromagnetic superconducting hybrid structures with strong easy axis anisotropy and the condition for magnetization reversal. The switching time for such arrangement is calculated and is found to be highly dependent on the magnetic configuration along with the biasing current. This study would be useful in designing practical superconducting-spintronic devices.

Shear Dynamics in Higher Dimensional FLRW Cosmology

We study the shear dynamics of higher dimensional Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmology by considering a non-perfect fluid which exerts different pressure in the normal and extra dimensions. We generalise the definition of shear tensor for higher dimensional space-time and prove it to be consistent with the evolution equation for shear tensor obtained from the Ricci identities. The evolution of shear tensor is investigated numerically. The role of extra dimensions and other parameters involved in shear dynamics is discussed in detail. We find that with increase in anisotropy parameter, time of decay of shear increases while with increase in number of extra dimensions, shear tends to decay early.

Cosmological dynamics of $f(R)$ gravity scalar degree of freedom in Einstein frame

$f(R)$ gravity models belong to an important class of modified gravity models where the late time cosmic accelerated expansion is considered as the manifestation of the large scale modification of the force of gravity. $f(R)$ gravity models can be expressed in terms of a scalar degree of freedom by redefinition of models variable. The conformal transformation of the action from Jordan frame to Einstein frame makes the scalar degree of freedom more explicit and can be studied conveniently. We have investigated the features of the scalar degree of freedoms and the consequent cosmological implications of the power-law ($ξR^n$) and the Starobinsky (disappearing cosmological constant) $f(R)$ gravity models numerically in the Einstein frame. Both the models show interesting behaviour of their scalar degree of freedom and could produce the accelerated expansion of the Universe in the Einstein frame with the negative equation of state of the scalar field. However the scalar field potential for the power-law model is the well behaved function of the field, whereas the potential becomes flat for higher value of field in the case of the Starobinsky model. Moreover, the equation of state of the scalar field for the power-law model is always negative and less than -1/3, which corresponds to the behaviour of the dark energy that produces the accelerated expansion of the Universe. This is not always the case for the Starobinsky model. At late times Starobinsky model behaves as cosmological constant $Λ$ as behaves by power-law model for the values of $n\rightarrow 2$ at all times.

Primeval acceleration and bounce conditions within induced gravity

A model of induced gravity with Higgs potential is analysed for the FLRW cosmology. Conditions of acceleration and signatures for the primeval universe along with the inflation are discussed. It is shown that the scalar-field excitations act quintessentially within effective pressure terms for a negative deceleration parameter. The violation of energy conditions and primeval acceleration appears naturally in the present model in view of the notions for inflationary universe with the avoidance of the Big Bang singularity.
