Photon-nucleon entanglement in Compton scattering at low and high energies

We study spin-spin entanglement in the final state photon-nucleon system in Compton scattering, both at low energy below the pion threshold and at high energy in perturbative QCD to next-to-leading order. We first establish a no-go theorem showing that, for any spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ target, entanglement cannot be generated in unpolarized Compton scattering if the scattering amplitudes are real. We then consider polarized Compton scattering off the electron, the proton and the neutron. At low energy, we uncover a rich variety of maximally entangled Bell states and their unitary equivalents realized across different regions of the kinematic plane. Interestingly, the proton and neutron targets exhibit distinct patterns of entanglement. In the neutron case, the electric and magnetic polarizabilities dramatically influence the pattern and even the existence of entanglement. This suggests that entanglement can serve as a novel tool for investigating the detailed electromagnetic properties of the nucleons.

Coherent deeply virtual Compton scattering on helium-4 beyond leading power

Coherent hard exclusive reactions on light nuclei provide access to their quark and gluon structure and enable three-dimensional tomography of these complex systems. We study deeply virtual Compton scattering on a helium-4 target, including both kinematic twist-3 and twist-4 corrections, as well as next-to-leading-order corrections to the twist-2 amplitude in the strong coupling $α_s$. We show that these contributions are crucial for achieving a precise description of the data and, as a result, obtain the first tomographic image of the helium-4 nucleus at the quark-gluon level.

Dispersion relations of deeply virtual Compton scattering: investigating twist-4 kinematic power corrections

In this paper we include kinematic power corrections up to twist-four to the deeply virtual Compton scattering dispersion relation. We demonstrate that, both for (pseudo-)scalar and spin-$1/2$ targets, the formal expression of the $n$-subtracted leading-twist dispersion relations is preserved. However, the expression of the subtracted constants is modified by the kinematic powers. Importantly, the minimal-subtracted dispersion relation for the helicity-conserving amplitude, previously thought to depend only on the Polyakov-Weiss $D$-term, now also depends on the double distributions $F$ and $K$. These results are consistent with the ones obtained previously in the literature. Such a mixing may be critical for the Jefferson Lab kinematic range, as it is not suppressed for typical values of $t$ and $Q^{2}$ in the valence region. We therefore expect a strong impact on attempts to extract pressure forces from DVCS data.

Constraining the Energy Momentum Tensor through DVCS Dispersion Relation beyond Leading Power

In this letter, we analyse and interpret the kinematic power corrections to deeply virtual Compton scattering dispersion relation. We show that the kinematic corrections at twist-4 can be connected to other form factors of the Energy-Momentum Tensor beyond the pressure distribution involved at leading-power, namely the ones related to Momentum and total Angular Momentum distributions. In the nucleon case, these corrections are not negligible at presently accessible virtualities. The DVCS subtraction constant becomes an experimental constraint on momentum distributions, pressure forces distributions, and total angular momentum distributions. Finally, we use continuum and lattice-QCD results to predict the expected size of the DVCS subtraction constant, and conclude that momentum distributions are responsible of roughly one-third of the experimental signal at $Q^2 = 2\textrm{GeV}^2$.

The lightest flavor--singlet qqq baryons as witnesses to color

We present a new computation in a field-theoretical model of Coulomb gauge QCD of the first radial and angular excitations of a qqq system in a SU(3) flavor singlet state, Lambda_S. The traditional motivation for the study is that the absence of flavor singlets in the lowest-lying spectrum is a direct consequence of the color degree of freedom. (The calculation is tested with decuplet baryons Delta(1232) and Omega(1672).) We also analyze decay branching fractions of the flavor singlet baryon for various masses with the simplest effective Lagrangians.
