Graph Diffusion-Advection Operator for Directed Graph Signal Processing

Graph signal processing (GSP) provides a framework for analyzing data on irregular domains, with applications in neuroscience, finance, chemistry, and social sciences. Classical GSP primarily models symmetric relationships using undirected graphs, yet many real-world systems exhibit asymmetric interactions, motivating extensions to directed graphs. Central to directed GSP is the graph shift operator, typically defined via the directed graph Laplacian. Building on the well-known link between the undirected graph Laplacian and the diffusion operator, we establish a correspondence between the directed graph Laplacian and the diffusion-advection operator. This perspective opens new avenues for addressing crucial points such as frequency ordering, smoothness definition, and the design of spectral and graph filters. Specifically, we introduce two new orderings of frequencies based on the modulus and argument of the eigenvalues, naturally leading to new definitions of smoothness. Then we present two kernels reflecting diffusive and advective processes, namely the heat and transport kernels, respectively. Finally, we propose novel graph filters obtained by composing diffusive and advective parts, which approximate ideal spectral filters accurately and characterize the evolution of graph signals in richer ways. All aforementioned developments are illustrated on both synthetic and real graphs, including an application to temperature graph and signals.

Passive advection of percolation process: Two-loop approximation

The paradigmatic model of the directed percolation process is studied near its second order phase transition between an absorbing and an active state. The model is first expressed in a form of Langevin equation and later rewritten into a field-theoretic formulation. The ensuing response functional is then analyzed employing Feynman diagrammatic technique and perturbative renormalization group method. Percolation process is assumed to occur in external velocity field, which has an additional effect on spreading properties. Kraichnan rapid change ensemble is used for generation of velocity fluctuations. The structure of the fixed points structure is obtained within the two-loop approximation.

Stochastic Navier-Stokes equation for a compressible fluid: two-loop approximation

A model of fully developed turbulence of a compressible fluid is briefly reviewed. It is assumed that fluid dynamics is governed by a stochastic version of Navier-Stokes equation. We show how corresponding field theoretic-model can be obtained and further analyzed by means of the perturbative renormalization group. Two fixed points of the RG equations are found. The perturbation theory is constructed within formal expansion scheme in parameter $y$, which describes scaling behavior of random force fluctuations. Actual calculations for fixed points' coordinates are performed to two-loop order.

Influence of turbulent mixing on critical behavior of directed percolation process : effect of compressibility

Universal behavior is a typical emergent feature of critical systems. A paramount model of the non-equilibrium critical behavior is the directed bond percolation process that exhibits an active- to-absorbing state phase transition in the vicinity of a percolation threshold. Fluctuations of the ambient environment might affect or destroy the universality properties completely. In this work we assume that the random environment can be described by means of compressible velocity fluctu- ations. Using field-theoretic models and renormalization group methods we investigate large-scale and long-time behavior. Altogether eleven universality classes are found, out of which four are stable in the infrared limit and thus macroscopically accessible. In contrast to the model without veloc- ity fluctuations a possible candidate for a realistic three-dimensional case, a regime with relevant short-range noise, is identified. Depending on the dimensionality of space and the structure of the turbulent flow we calculate critical exponents of the directed percolation process. In the limit of the purely transversal velocity field random force critical exponents comply with the incompressible results obtained by previous authors. We have found intriguing non-universal behavior related to the mutual effect of compressibility and advection.
