Nuclear fusion induced by X-rays in a crystal

The nuclei that constitute a crystalline lattice, oscillate relative to each other with a very low energy that is not sufficient to penetrate through the Coulomb barriers separating them. An additional energy, which is needed to tunnel through the barrier and fuse, can be supplied by external electromagnetic waves (X-rays or the synchrotron radiation). Exposing to the X-rays the solid compound LiD (lithium-deuteride) for the duration of 111 hours, we have detected 88 events of the nuclear fusion d+Li6 ---> Be8*. Our theoretical estimate agrees with what we observed. One of possible applications of the phenomenon we found, could be the measurements of the rates of various nuclear reactions (not necessarily fusion) at extremely low energies inaccessible in accelerator experiments.

SMWDs as SGRs/AXPs and the lepton number violation

Possible nature of strongly magnetized white dwarfs (SMWDs) is studied. It is shown that for relatively low values of the equatorial surface magnetic field $B\,\sim\,10^9\,-\,10^{11}$ G they can be good candidates for soft gamma-ray repeaters and anomalous X-ray pulsars (SGRs/AXPs). For the case of iron SMWDs the influence of a neutrinoless electron to positron conversion on the SGRs/AXPs luminosity is estimated.

The estimation of neutrino flux produced by $\mathbf{pep}$ reactions in the Sun

The experimental result of the solar neutrino flux at one AU produced by the $p+p+e \rightarrow d+ν_e$ reaction (\textit{pep}) was announced for the first time in 2012 by the Borexino collaboration. This neutrino flux was significantly greater than the flux predicted by Bahcall and May, who used two body approaches for calculation of this reaction. We have used the three-body model for the proton-proton-electron system in the continuous spectrum of energy to determine the rate of the \textit{pep} reaction and have estimated the neutrino flux. Our result of the neutrino flux is 25-40\% more than the Bachall \textit{et al.} value and depends on the shape of nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) potential. Moreover, the calculated flux lies within the confidence interval of the experimental data in the case of pure attractive potentials as well as potential having repulsion at small distances between nucleons.

Three-body calculation of the rate of reaction $p+p+e \rightarrow d+ν_e$ in the Sun

Using expansion of the three-body wave function of the $pep$ system in the initial state on hyperharmonic functions, the rate of the $p+p+e^{-} \rightarrow d+ν_e$ reaction in the Sun is calculated. The results of calculation of the flux at 1 AU are compared with the results of a measurement made by the Borexino collaboration and Bahcall \textit{et al.} theoretical predictions.

3- and 4- body meson- nuclear clusters

The binding energies and matter distributions for the 3- body systems like $ϕ$- meson + 2N, 2$ϕ$ + N and 4- body system like $ϕ$+3n are calculated. For the 3- particle systems two- dimensional Faddeev equations in the differential form are used. For the 4- body system $ϕ$+3n the folding model is applied.

Three-body resonances Lambda-n-n and Lambda-Lambda-n

Possible bound and resonant states of the hypernuclear systems $Λnn$ and $ΛΛn$ are sought as zeros of the corresponding three-body Jost functions calculated within the framework of the hyperspherical approach with local two-body S-wave potentials describing the $nn$, $Λn$, and $ΛΛ$ interactions. Very wide near-threshold resonances are found for both three-body systems. The positions of these resonances turned out to be sensitive to the choice of the $Λn$-potential. Bound $Λnn$ and $ΛΛn$ states only appear if the two-body potentials are multiplied by a factor of $\sim 1.5$.

Influence of protons on the capture of electrons by 7Be in the Sun

The capture of electrons by the nucleus $^{7}Be$ from the three-body initial state $p+e^{-}+^{7}Be$ in the continuum is studied. On the basis of the expansion of the three-body continuum wave function in the small parameter $ε\approx ({m_e}/{m_p})^{1/2}$ [$m_e$ ($m_p$) is the electron (proton) mass], the role of the protons on the electron capture is considered. The results are compared with the traditional treatment of the electron capture by the nucleus $^{7}Be$. For stars with the density and temperature like in the centre of the Sun the studied mechanism can make non-negligible contribution to the capture rate.

Binding of charmonium with two- and three-body nuclei

The energies of the (eta_c d) and (eta_c 3He) bound states are calculated on the basis of exact three- and four-body AGS equations. For the eta_c N interaction a Yukawa-type potential has been adopted. The calculations are done for a certain range of its strength parameter. The results obtained are quite different from calculations based on the folding model.

Binding of eta_c meson with light nucleus

Binding energy of eta_c with ^4 He has been calculated on the basis of Yukawa type potential. Final Rank Approximation (FRA) has been used for microscopical treatment of the initial 5-body problem. The results are compared with the results of the folding model and variational calculations.

Peculiarities of localization of several sonoluminescent bubbles in spherical resonators

Experiments on generation of 1, 2, 4, and 6 sonoluminescent bubbles in water with an external ultrasound source in an acoustic sphere resonator with glass walls have been carried out. Theoretical examination has shown that the observed excitation frequencies could be described with a good accuracy taking into account that the velocities and pressures of the contacting media on the external and internal resonator surfaces are equal. The necessity of accounting for oscillations with non--zero self--values of angular momentum operator has been shown when describing the features of localization of several bubbles. To explain a strangely small distance between the bubbles in the case of two--bubble sonoluminescence the following possible explanations have been proposed: a) mechanism of space splitting of a mode with a singular angular momentum and b) mechanism of secondary excitation when one of the bubbles is trapped into the acoustic trap created by high--frequency vibrations arising simultaneously when the other bubble sonoluminescence occurs.

Three charged particles in the continuum. Astrophysical examples

We suggest a new adiabatic approach for description of three charged particles in the continuum. This approach is based on the Coulomb-Fourier transformation (CFT) of three body Hamiltonian, which allows to develop a scheme, alternative to Born-Oppenheimer one. The approach appears as an expansion of the kernels of corresponding integral transformations in terms of small mass-ratio parameter. To be specific, the results are presented for the system $ppe$ in the continuum. The wave function of a such system is compared with that one which is used for estimation of the rate for triple reaction $ p+p+e\to d+ν, $ which take place as a step of $pp$-cycle in the center of the Sun. The problem of microscopic screening for this particular reaction is discussed.

Near-Threshold Photoproduction of eta-mesons on Three-Nucleon Nuclei

A microscopic few-body description of near-threshold coherent photoproduction of the eta meson on tritium and 3He targets is given. The photoproduction cross-section is calculated using the Finite Rank Approximation (FRA) of the nuclear Hamiltonian. The results indicate a strong final state interaction of the eta meson with the residual nucleus. Sensitivity of the results to the choice of the eta N T-matrix is investigated.

Search for long-lived states in antiprotonic lithium

The spectrum of the (L_i^3 + p-bar + 2e) four-body system was calculated in an adiabatic approach. The two-electron energies were approximated by a sum of two single-electron effective charge two-center energies as suggested in [6]. While the structure of the spectrum does not exclude the existence of long-lived states, their experimental observability is still to be clarified.
