A model of the internal structure of Titan: first results

The aim of this short contribution is to report some preliminary results on a theoretical model of the internal structure of Titan, the satellite of Saturn. All the calculations were performed within the SK theory of dense matter. The central pressure and temperature, as well as a possible chemical composition of this satellite have been determinded, but they will ultimately become verifiable only by data from the Cassini misision.

Theoretical studies of Q1D organic conductors:a personal view

This is a review of some aspects of theoretical studies of the Bechgaard salts, which also retraces the evolution of the author's interest in the field. It discusses the calculation of the condutivity, attempts at gaining some knowledge on the EOS and thermal properties of these materials,as well as some ideas on the possible future developement of the field.

A simple estimate of the electron hopping energy in the Bechgaard salts

Starting from a previously derived theoretical expression for the electrical conductivity of the Bechgaard salts, and experimental data on the resistivity of these materials,it is shown how a valueof the electron hopping energy can be determined.Values obtained in this way are in agreement with estimates made by more complicated methods.

The Chemical Potential of the Electron Gas on a Two-Dimensional Lattice

The chemical potential of the electron gas on a two-dimensional recttangular lattice is determined. An approximate expression for exp(-mu/T) is obtained, and its second order approximation is discussed to some extent. This result will find applications in studies of high temperature superconductors and Q2D organic conductors.

The plasma-solid transition:some implications in astrophysics

Using a criterion proposed by Salpeter, and standard solid state physics,we have determined the Debye temperature of a solid in equilibrium with the electron gas surrounding it.The results obtained can have implications in studies of the interstellar medium.

The plasma-solid equilibrium an in Debye plasma

Using the Salpeter criterion and known results from solid state physics, the Debye temperature of a solid in equilibrium with a Debye-Huckel plasma was calculated. This result could have interesting applications in studies of various kinds of interstellar clouds.

The plasma-solid transition

Using a criterion proposed by Salpeter and standard solid-state physics,we have determined conditions for the occurence of the plasma-solid transition.Possible astrophysical applications are discussed.

The plasma-solid transition:two simple examples

Using a simple criterion proposed by Kirzhnitz,we have discussed the plasma-solid transition in two simple model cases: the Fermi-Dirac and Bose Einstein gas. Some possibilities of astrophysical applications of our results are also indicated.

Predicting phase transition pressure in solids:a semiclasical possibility

This is a short review of the physical ideas, algorithm for the calculation of the phase transition pressure and some results of a semi-classical theory of the behaviour of materials under high pressure proposed by P.Savic and R.Kasanin.It is base on the Coulomb interaction, supplemented by a microscopic selection rule and a set of experimentally founded postulates, and it has found applications from DAC experiments to planetary structure modelling.

A comparison of two equations of state

The forms of two astrophysically applicable equations of state (EOS) are compared: the EOS proposed within the semiclassical theory of dense matter developed by P.Savic and R.Kasanin, and the universal equation of state introduced by Vinet et al.Some similarities between them are discussed and possibilities of astrophysical tests are pointed out.
