Usual and phantom scalar fields in five dimensions: compactification and flat thick brane solutions

In the model of a gravitating system with two scalar fields (one of which is phantom), two new types of regular solutions are found: mechanism for compactification of an extra dimension and a flat thick brane solution. It is shown that the first model has solutions oscillating over the extra coordinate and giving a finite radius of compactification of the fifth dimension and the second model is a flat thick brane embedded in the 5D Minkowski spacetime. Geometry of both models corresponds to a five-dimensional Minkowski space-time. Consideration of linear perturbations shows stability of the obtained solutions.

Boson stars from a gauge condensate

The boson star filled with two interacting scalar fields is investigated. The scalar fields can be considered as a gauge condensate formed by SU(3) gauge field quantized in a non-perturbative manner. The corresponding solution is regular everywhere, has a finite energy and can be considered as a quantum SU(3) version of the Bartnik - McKinnon particle-like solution.

Cosmic string with two interacting scalar fields

The model of cosmic string formed from two gravitating and interacting scalar fields is considered. It is shown that the regular solutions exist at special choice of the model's parameters only.

Scalar model of the glueball

A scalar model of the glueball is offered. The model is based on the nonperturbative calculation of 2 and 4-points Green's functions. Approximately they can be expressed via a scalar field. On the basis of the SU(3) Yang-Mills Lagrangian an effective Lagrangian for the scalar field is derived. The corresponding field equations are solved for the spherically symmetric case. The obtained solution is interpreted as a bubble of the SU(3) quantized gauge field.

Nonperturbative calculational method in quantum field theory

An approximate procedure for performing nonperturbative calculations in quantum field theories is presented. The focus will be quantum non-Abelian gauge theories with the goal of understanding some of the open questions of these theories such as the confinement phenomenon and glueballs. One aspect of this nonperturbative method is the breaking down of the non-Abelian gauge group into smaller pieces. For example $SU(2) \to U(1) + coset$ or $SU(3) \to SU(2) + coset$. The procedure also uses some aspects of an old method by Heisenberg to calculate the n-point Green's function of a strongly interacting, non-linear theory. Using these ideas we will give approximate calculations of the 2 and 4-points Green's function of the theories considered.

Effective 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles from pure SU(3) gauge theory

The well known topological monopoles originally investigated by 't Hooft and Polyakov are known to arise in classical Yang-Mills-Higgs theory. With a pure gauge theory it is known that the classical Yang-Mills field equation do not have such finite energy configurations. Here we argue that such configurations may arise in a semi-quantized Yang-Mills theory, where the original gauge group, SU(3), is reduced to a smaller gauge group, SU(2), and with some combination of the coset fields of the SU(3) to SU(2) reduction acting as effective scalar fields. The procedure is called semi-quantized since some of the original gauge fields are treated as quantum degrees of freedom, while others are postulated to be effectively described as classical degrees of freedom. Some speculation is offer on a possible connection between these monopole configurations and the confinement problem, and the nucleon spin puzzle.

Effective Abelian-Higgs Theory from SU(2) gauge field theory

In the present work we show that it is possible to arrive at a Ginzburg-Landau (GL) like equation from pure SU(2) gauge theory. This has a connection to the dual superconducting model for color confinement where color flux tubes permanently bind quarks into color neutral states. The GL Lagrangian with a spontaneous symmetry breaking potential, has such (Nielsen-Olesen) flux tube solutions. The spontaneous symmetry breaking requires a tachyonic mass for the effective scalar field. Such a tachyonic mass term is obtained from the condensation of ghost fields.

Duality between magnetic field and rotation

It is shown that in 5D Kaluza-Klein theory there are everywhere regular wormhole-like solutions in which the magnetic field at the center is the origin of a rotation on the peripheral part of these solutions. The time on the peripheral part is topologically non-trivial and magnetic field is suppressed in comparison with the electric one.

Strings and Branes under Microscope

It is shown that in the standard vacuum 5D Kaluza-Klein gravity there is wormhole-like solutions which look like strings attached to two D-branes. The asymptotical behaviour of the corresponding metric is investigated.

Wormhole solutions in 5D Kaluza-Klein theory as string-like objects

The detailed numerical and analytical approximate analysis of wormhole-like solutions in 5D Kaluza-Klein gravity is given. It is shown that some part of these solutions with $E \approx H, E>H$ relation between electric $E$ and magnetic $H$ fields can be considered as a superthin and superlong gravitational flux tube filled with electric and magnetic fields, namely $Δ-$strings. The solution behaviour near hypersurface $ds^2=0$ and the model of electric charge on the basis of $Δ-$string are discussed. The comparison of the properties of $Δ-$string and ordinary string in string theory is carried out. Some arguments are given that fermionic degrees of freedom can be build in on the $Δ-$string. These degrees of freedom are connected with quantum wormholes of spacetime foam. It is shown that the natural theory for these spinor fields is supergravity.

Electric/magnetic flux tube on the background of magnetic/electric field

It is argued that the phenomenon of a flux tube in quantum chromodynamics is closely connected with a spontaneously symmetry breakdown of gauge theory. It is shown that in the presence of a mass term in the SU(2) gauge theory the Nielsen-Olesen equations describe the flux tube surrounded by an external field.

Some properties of a $Δ-$string

The properties of 5D gravitational flux tubes are considered. With the cross section and 5th dimension in the Planck region such tubes can be considered as string-like objects, namely $Δ-$strings. A model of attachment of $Δ-$string to a spacetime is offered. It is shown that the attachment point is a model of an electric charge for an observer living in the spacetime. Magnetic charges are forbidden in this model.

$Δ-$string - a hybrid between wormhole and string

The flux tube solutions in 5D Kaluza-Klein theory can be considered as a string-like object - $Δ-$string. The initial 5D metric can be reduced to some inner degrees of freedom living on the $Δ-$string. The propagation of electromagnetic waves through the $Δ-$string is considered. It is shown that the difference between $Δ$ and ordinary strings are connected with the fact that for the $Δ-$string such limitations as critical dimensions are missing.

Nonperturbative Operator Quantization of Strongly Nonlinear Fields

At present an algebra of strongly interacting fields is unknown. In this paper it is assumed that the operators of strongly nonlinear field can form a non-associative algebra. It is shown that such algebra can be described as an algebra of some pairs. The comparison of presented techniques with the Green's functions method in the superconductivity theory is made. A possible application to the QCD and High-T$_c$ superconductivity theory is discussed.

Strings in the Einstein's paradigm of matter

Spherically symmetric solutions with a flux of electric and magnetic fields in Kaluza-Klein gravity are considered. It is shown that under the condition (electric charge $q$) $\approx$ (magnetic charge $Q$) ($q>Q$) these solutions are like a flux tube stretched between two Universes. The longitudinal size of this tube depends on the value of $δ= 1 - Q/q$. The cross section of the tube can be chosen $\approx l_{Pl}$. In this case this flux tube looks like a 1-dimensional object (thread) stretched between two Universes. The propagation of gravitational waves on the thread is considered. The corresponding equations are very close to the classical string equations. This result allows us to say that the thread between two Universes is similar to the string attached to two $D-$branes.
