The electron beam instability in a one-dimensional cylindrical photonic crystal

The radiative instability of the relativistic electron beam in a periodic dielectric-filled cylindrical waveguide is considered. The dependence of the beam instability increment on the radiated wave frequency near the region of dispersion equation roots degeneracy is studied. It is shown that sharp change in the instability of the beam under the conditions of two-wave diffraction in Compton generation regime, making the increment proportional to the fourth root from the beam density $ρ^{1/4}$ in contrast to conventional law $ρ^{1/3}$, brings radiation generation (amplification) in the considered system to be essentially improved in comparison with conventional devices (BWO, TWT, FEL etc). Numerical calculations of the instability increment for various parameters of the system are performed.

Time Dependence of the Intensity of Diffracted Radiation Produced by a Relativistic Particle Passing through a Natural or Photonic Crystal

The formulas which describe the time evolution of radiation produced by a relativistic particle moving in a crystal are derived. It is shown that the conditions are realizable under which parametric (quasi-Cherenkov) radiation, transition radiation, diffracted radiation of the oscillator, surface quasi-Cherenkov and Smith-Purcell radiation last considerably longer than the time of the particle flight through the crystal. The results of carried out experiments demonstrate the presence of additional radiation peak appearing after the electron beam has left the photonic crystal.

"Optical" Spin Rotation Phenomenon and Spin Filtering of Antiproton (Proton, Deuteron) Beams in a Pseudomagnetic Field of a Polarized Target: the Possibility of Measuring the Real Part of the Coherent Zero-angle Scattering Amplitude

It is shown that in the experiments dedicated for producing of polarized beams of antiprotons during their passage through a polarized gas target placed in a storage ring it is possible to measure not only spin-dependent total cross-sections of antiproton scattering by the proton (deuteron), but also the spin-dependent real part of the coherent zero-angle scattering amplitude in the process of production of a polarized beam of antiprotons.

Radiative instability of a relativistic electron beam moving in a photonic crystal

The radiative instability of a beam moving in a photonic crystal of finite dimensions is studied. The dispersion equation is obtained. The law $Γ\sim ρ^{1/\left( {s + 3} \right)}$ is shown to be valid and caused by the mixing of the electromagnetic field modes in the finite volume due to the periodic disturbance from the photonic crystal.

Hybrid systems with virtual cathode for high power microwaves generation

It is shown that use of a photonic crystal enables to construct several types of hybrid systems with virtual cathode, which could radiate due to different radiation mechanisms (bremsstrahlung and diffraction (transition) radiation) with different frequencies. Also mentioned that photonic crystal makes possible to create phase-locked array of generators.

Generation of radiation in free electron lasers with diffraction gratings (photonic crystal) with the variable spacial period

The equations providing to describe generation process in FEL with varied parameters of diffraction grating (photonic crystal) are obtained. It is shown that applying diffraction gratings (photonic crystal) with the variable period one can significantly increase radiation output. It is mentioned that diffraction gratings (photonic crystal) can be used for creation of the dynamical wiggler with variable period in the system. This makes possible to develop double-cascaded FEL with variable parameters changing, which efficiency can be significantly higher that of conventional system.

Laser in the axial electric field as a tool to search for P-, T- invariance violation

We consider rotation of polarization plane of the laser light when a gas laser is placed in a longitudinal electric field (10~kV/cm). It is shown that residual anisotropy of the laser cavity 10^{-6} and the sensitivity to the angle of polarization plane rotation about 10^{-11} -10^{-12} rad allows one to measure an electron EDM with the sensitivity about 10^{-30} e cm.

On the Possibility of the Strong Field QED Investigation at LHC

The interaction of high energy particles with atomic axes and planes allows to observe in crystal various effects predicted by the quantum electrodynamics of phenomena in strong electromagnetic field. In particular, the effect of electron-positron pair production by gamma-quanta in a semi-uniform field was observed for the first time in eightieth in CERN in the field of germanium crystal axes. The high energy of LHC drastically widens the possibilities of strong field QCD effect investigation in crystals allowing to observe vacuum dichroism and birefringence, electron radiative self-polarization and polarized electron-positron pair production by gamma-quanta, positron (electron) anomalous magnetic moment modification and electron spin rotation in crystal field harmonics. The effect of vacuum birefringence induced by strong electric field is considered in detail.

Spin rotation of polarized beams in high energy storage ring

The equations for spin evolution of a particle in a storage ring are obtained considering contributions from the tensor electric and magnetic polarizabilities of the particle along with the contributions from spin rotation and birefringence effect in polarized matter of an internal target. % Study of the spin rotation and birefringence effects for a particle in a high energy storage ring provides for measurement both the spin-dependent real part of the coherent elastic zero-angle scattering amplitude and tensor electric (magnetic) polarizabilities.

About influence of the deuteron electric and magnetic plarizabities on measurement of the deuteron EDM in a storage ring

In the present paper influence of tensor electric and magnetic polarizabilities on spin evolution in the resonance deuteron EDM experiment is considered in details. It is shown that besides EDM the electric and magnetic polarizabilities also contribute to the vertical spin component P_3. Moreover, the electric polarizability contributes to the P_3 component even when the deuteron EDM is supposed to be zero and thereby the electric polarizability can imitate the EDM contribution. It is shown that unlike the vertical component of the spin P_3 the component P_{33} of polarization tensor does not contain contribution from the electric polarizability, whereas contribution from the magnetic polarizability reveals only when the deuteron EDM differs from zero. Moreover, it is also shown that when the angle $\vartheta$ between the spin direction and the vertical axis meets the condition $\sin \vartheta=\sqrt{2/3}$ ($\cos \vartheta=\sqrt{1/3}$), the initial value of $P_{33}$ appears $P_{33}(0)=0$. As a result, EDM contribution to the measured signal linearly growth in time starting from zero that is important for measurements. Therefore, measurement of the P_{33} component of deuteron tensor polarization seems to be of particular interest, especially because the nonzero component P_{33} appearance on its own indicates the EDM presence (in contrast to the P_3 component, which appearance can be aroused by the tensor electric polarizability, rather than EDM).

Spin rotation and oscillations for high energy particles in a crystal and possibility to measure the quadrupole moments and tensor polarizabilities of elementary particles and nuclei

It is shown that particle motion in a bent (straight) crystal is accompanied by particle spin rotation and oscillations that allows to measure the tensor electric and magnetic polarizabilities of nuclei and elementary particles. It is shown that channelling of particles in either straight or bent crystal with the polarized nuclei could be used both to analyze polarization of high energy particles and polarize them.
