J/ψsuppression at forward rapidity as a potential probe for QGP formation in colour screening scenario

In order to study the properties of $J/ψ$ (1S) in the deconfining medium, we extend our previous formalism [Phys. Lett. B {\bf 656}, 45 (2007)] on $J/ψ$ suppression at mid-rapidity using the colour screening framework. Our formalism is more general as the complete rapidity, transverse momentum and centrality dependence including $J/ψ$ suppression at forward as well as mid-rapidity can be computed directly from it. Careful attention is paid to the role of the medium's proper time in determining the locus of the screening region where $J/ψ$ gets suppressed. Other important ingredients in the calculation are bag model equation of state for QGP, the longitudinal expansion of the QGP fluid obeying Bjorken's boost invariant scaling law and non-sequential/sequential melting of $χ_c$ (1P) as well as $ψ^{'}$ (2S) higher resonances. Upon comparison with the recent data of PHENIX collaboration on $J/ψ$ suppression at forward and mid-rapidity regions, we find that our model shows a reasonable agreement with the data without incorporating any sequential decay mechanism of higher charmonia states. Furthermore, we observe a larger suppression at forward rapidity in our model which is again well supported by the PHENIX data and also gives a hint that a scenario based on directly produced $J/ψ$'s is preferable.

Comment on the paper "Energy Loss of Charm Quarks in the Quark-Gluon Plasma : Collisional vs Radiative"

In the article by M. G. Mustafa published in Phys. Rev. C {\bf 72}, 014905 (2005) the author has estimated the total energy loss of a charm quark and quenching of hadron spectra due to the collisional energy loss of energetic partons in an expanding quark-gluon plasma employing Fokker-Planck equation. We wish to point out through this Comment that some of conceptual and numerical results of the said paper are unreliable. For the sake of clarity our discussion will focus on the massless case (although a few remarks on the $m\neq 0$ case are also made).

$J/ψ$ suppression in Au+Au collisions at RHIC : colour screening scenario in the bag model at variable participant numbers

We have modified the colour screening theory of Chu and Matsui by properly incorporating bag model equation of state for quark gluon plasma (QGP). We have also chosen the pressure parametrization rather than parametrizing energy density in the transverse plane. We assume that the QGP dense medium is expanding in the longitudinal direction obeying Bjorken boost invariant scaling law. Sequential melting of $χ_c$, $ψ^{'}$ and $J/ψ$ is also considered in this scenario. We have applied above formulation to the recent PHENIX experimental data of $J/ψ$ suppression in Au + Au collisions at RHIC. We find that the model gives a good description of data at mid-rapidity in terms of survival probability versus number of participants without any necessity of implementing (3+1)-dimensional expansion of the deconfined medium.

Partial wave interference mechanism in gluonic dissociation of $J/ψ$

We explicitly take into account the effect of hydrodynamic expansion profile on the gluonic breakup of $J/ψ$'s produced in an equilibrating parton plasma. Attention is paid to the space-time inhomogeneities as well as Lorentz frames while deriving new expressions for the gluon number density $n_g$, average dissociation rate $<\tildeΓ>$, and $ψ$ survival probability $S$. A novel type of partial wave {\em interference} mechanism is found to operate in the formula of $<\tildeΓ>$. Nonrelativistic longitudinal expansion fro small length of the initial cylinder is found to push the $S(p_T)$ graph above the no flow case considered by us earlier \cite{rev1}. However, relativistic flow corresponding to large length of the initial cylinder pushes the curve of $S(p_T)$ downwards at LHC but upwards at RHIC. This mutually different effect on $S(p_T)$ may be attributed to the different initial temperatures generated at LHC and RHIC.

J/ψ$ Gluonic Dissociation Revisited : III. Effects of Transverse Hydrodynamic Flow

In a recent paper [Eur. Phys. J {\bf C 44}, 567 (2005)] we developed a very general formulation to take into account explicitly the effects of hydrodynamic flow profile on the gluonic breakup of $J/ψ$'s produced in an equilibrating quark-gluon plasma. Here we apply that formulation to the case when the medium is undergoing cylindrically symmetric {\it transverse} expansion starting from RHIC or LHC initial conditions. Our algebraic and numerical estimates demonstrate that the transverse expansion causes enhancement of local gluon number density $ŋ$, affects the $\pt$-dependence of the average dissociation rate $\tilg$ through a partial-wave interference mechanism, and makes the survival probability $\spt$ to change with $\pt$ very slowly. Compared to the previous case of longitudinal expansion the new graph of $\spt$ is pushed up at LHC, but develops a rich structure at RHIC, due to a competition between the transverse catch-up time and plasma lifetime.

$J/ψ$ Gluonic Dissociation Revisited : I. Fugacity, Flux And Formation Time Effects

We revisit the standard treatment [Xu, Kharzeev, Satz and Wang, Phys. Rev. C {\bf 53}, 3051 (1996)] of $J/ψ$ suppression due to gluonic bombardment in an equilibrating quark-gluon plasma. Effects arising from gluon fugacity, relative $g-ψ$ flux, and $ψ$ meson formation time are correctly incorporated in the formulation of the gluon number density, velocity-weighted cross section, and the survival probability. Our new formulae are applied to numerically study the pattern of $J/ψ$ suppression in the central rapidity region at RHIC/LHC energies. The temperature and transverse momentum dependence of our graphs have noticeable differences from those of Xu et al.

Spectral Representation at Finite Temperature

This is a short review on the thermal, spectral representation in the real-time version of the finite temperature quantum field theory. After presenting a clear derivation of the spectral representation, we discuss the properties of its spectral function. Two applications of this representation are then considered. One is the solution of the Dyson equation for the thermal propagator. The other is the formulation of the QCD sum rules at finite temperature.

Langevin dynamics of $J/ψ$ in a parton plasma

We consider the Brownian motion of a $c \bar c$ pair produced in the very early satge of a quark-gluon plasma. The one-dimensional Langevin equation is solved formally to get purely mechanical properties at small and large times. Stochastically-averaged variances are examined to extract the time scales associated with swelling and ionization of the bound state. Simple numerical estimates of the time scales are compared with other mechanisms of $J/ψ$ suppression.

On the Non-Orthonormality of Lippmann-Schwinger-Low States

It is pointed out that for a general short-ranged potential the Lippmann-Schwinger-Low scattering state $|ψ^L_k>$ does not strictly satisfy the Schrodinger eigen equation, and the pair $|ψ^L_n>$, $|ψ^L_k>$ is mutually nonorthogonal if $E_n=E_k$. For this purpose, we carefully use an infinitesimal adiabatic parameter $ε$, a nonlinear relation among transition amplitudes, and a separable interaction as illustration.

Baryon Number Penetrability as a Measure of Isothermal Baryon Number Fluctuations in the Early Universe

We have examined the efficiency of baryon-number transport mechanism across the phase boundary in a cosmological quark-hadron phase transition through the proper estimate of baryon-number penetrability $<Σ_h>$. For this purpose we have derived first the double-pair creation probability $P_b$ in terms of single-pair creation probabilty per unit time and unit volume $κ_m$ and then obtained an analytical expression for $<Σ_h >$. Our calculation is free from the uncertainty of the value of double-pair creation probability per unit time and unit volume $κ_b$ which was used as a free parameter in earlier calculations. Finally the variations of double-pair creation probability $P_b$ as well as $<Σ_h>$ with temperature are shown and compared with other known results.
