The Sakaguchi-Kuramoto model in presence of asymmetric interactions that break phase-shift symmetry

The celebrated Kuramoto model provides an analytically tractable framework to study spontaneous collective synchronization and comprises globally coupled limit-cycle oscillators interacting symmetrically with one another. The Sakaguchi-Kuramoto model is a generalization of the basic model that considers the presence of a phase-lag parameter in the interaction, thereby making it asymmetric between oscillator pairs. Here, we consider a further generalization, by adding an interaction that breaks the phase-shift symmetry of the model. The highlight of our study is the unveiling of a very rich bifurcation diagram comprising of both oscillatory and non-oscillatory synchronized states as well as an incoherent state: There are regions of two-state as well as an interesting and hitherto unexplored three-state coexistence arising from asymmetric interactions in our model.

Dynamics of coupled modified Rossler oscillators: the role of nonisochronicity parameter

The amplitude-dependent frequency of the oscillations, termed \emph{nonisochronicity}, is one of the essential characteristics of nonlinear oscillators. In this paper, the dynamics of the Rossler oscillator in the presence of nonisochronicity is examined. In particular, we explore the appearance of a new fixed point and the emergence of a coexisting limit-cycle and quasiperiodic attractors. We also describe the sequence of bifurcations leading to synchronized, desynchronized attractors and oscillation death states in the coupled Rossler oscillators as a function of the strength of nonisochronicity and coupling parameters. Further, we characterize the multistability of the coexisting attractors by plotting the basins of attraction. Our results open up the possibilities of understanding the emergence of coexisting attractors, and into a qualitative change of the collective states in coupled nonlinear oscillators in the presence of nonisochronicity.

Weak Measurement effects on dynamics of quantum correlations in a Two-atom System in Thermal Reservoirs

The dynamical behavior of quantum correlations captured by different forms Measurement-Induced Nonlocality (MIN) between two atoms coupled with thermal reservoirs is investigated and compared with the entanglement. It is shown that the MIN quantities are more robust, while noise causes sudden death in entanglement. Further, we quantified the quantum correlation with weak measurement, and the effect of measurement strength is observed. The role of mean photon number and weak measurement on quantum correlation is also highlighted.

Characterizing quantum ensemble using geometric measure of quantum coherence

The characterization of the quantum ensemble is a fundamental issue in quantum information theory and foundations. The ensemble is also useful for various quantum information processing. To characterize the quantum ensemble, in this article, we generalize the coherence measure of a state to the quantum ensemble. Exploiting the fidelity and affinity between the ensemble, we propose a quantumness quantifier for the quantum ensemble. It is shown that the proposed quantifier satisfies the necessary axioms of a bonafide measure of quantumness. Finally, we compute the quantumness of a few well-known ensembles.

Symmetry breaking induced tipping to aging

The competing effect of heterogeneity and symmetry breaking coupling on the emerging dynamics in a system of N globally coupled Stuart-Landau oscillators is investigated. Increasing the heterogeneity, using the standard deviation of the Hopf bifurcation parameter, favors the macroscopic oscillatory state for low values of the symmetry breaking coupling and inhomogeneous steady state for larger values of the coupling. There is also a transition, tipping, to homogeneous steady state (aging state) from the macroscopic oscillatory state. The limiting factor in the diffusive coupling favors the macroscopic oscillatory state even in the presence of a large fraction of inactive oscillators in the network thereby increasing the robustness of the network. The globally coupled oscillators are reduced to a system of two evolution equations for the macroscopic order parameters, corresponding to the mean-field and the shape parameter, using the self-consistent field approach. The bifurcation diagrams obtained from the mean-field variables elucidate various bifurcation scenarios responsible for the dynamical transitions observed in N globally coupled Stuart-Landau oscillators. In particular, tipping to the aging state is found to occur via the Hopf and pitchfork bifurcations illustrating the phenomenon of bifurcation induced tipping. Analytical stability (critical) curves of these bifurcations, deduced from the mean-field variables, are found to fairly well agree with the simulation results.

Large Amplitude Spin-Hall Oscillations due to Field-like Torque

Large amplitude spin-Hall oscillations are identified in a ferromagnetic layer with two perpendicular in-plane easy axis in the presence of field-like torque without any polarizer and external field. The analytical study confirms the possibility of oscillations in the presence of field-like torque. The investigation shows that the oscillation frequency can be tuned from 2 GHz to 80 GHz by current and enhanced by field-like torque. Further, the enhancement of frequency along with the Q-factor by current and field-like torque is also observed.

Stable Bloch oscillations and Landau-Zener tunneling in a non-Hermitian $\cal{PT}$-symmetric flat band lattice

This article aims to study the existence of stable Bloch oscillations and Landau-Zener tunneling in a non-Hermitian system when exposed to external fields. We investigate a non-Hermitian $\cal{PT}$-symmetric diamond chain network and its transport dynamics in two different situations, namely in a flat band case and a non-flat band case. The considered system does not support unbroken-$\cal{PT}$ phase or completely real eigenspectra in any of the parametric regions in both the flat and non-flat band cases. In the flat band case, up to a critical value of the gain-loss parameter, the bands are found to be gapless or inseparable, and for other values the bands are isolated. Considering the non-flat band case, all the bands are found to be complex dispersive and are also isolated. In the case of completely broken $\cal{PT}$ phase, we look upon the possibility to have stable dynamics or Bloch oscillations upon the application of external fields like synthetic electric field. In particular, when the complex bands are isolated, we point out that the Landau-Zener tunneling induced by the synthetic electric field can enable Bloch oscillations. The amplitude of these Bloch oscillations is large and persists for a long propagation distance which reveals that super Bloch oscillations can be observed in the broken $\cal{PT}$ phase of the system. We also report the amplified Bloch oscillations which pave the way towards controlling transport phenomena in non-Hermitian systems.

Asymmetry-induced nonclassical correlation

In quantum resource theory (QRT), asymmetry recognized as a valid resource for the advantage of various quantum information processing. In this paper, we establish the resource theory of asymmetry using quantum Fisher information (QFI). By defining the average Fisher information as a measure of asymmetry, it is shown that the discrepancy of bipartite global and local asymmetries naturally induces the nonclassical correlation between the subsystems. This measure satisfies all the necessary axioms of a faithful measure of bipartite quantum correlation. As an illustration, we have studied the proposed measure for an arbitrary pure state and Bell diagonal state.

Dynamical modelling and analysis of COVID-19 in India

We consider the pandemic spreading of COVID-19 in India after the outbreak of the coronavirus in Wuhan city, China. We estimate the transmission rate of the initial infecting individuals of COVID-19 in India by using the officially reported data at the early stage of the epidemic with the help of Susceptible (S), Exposed (E), Infected (I), and Removed (R) population model, the so-called SEIR dynamical model. Numerical analysis and model verification are performed to calibrate the system parameters with official public information about the number of people infected, and then to evaluate several COVID -19 scenarios potentially applicable to India. Our findings provide an estimation of disease occurrence in the near future and also demonstrate the importance of governmental and individual efforts to control the effects and time of the pandemic-related critical situations. We also give special emphasis to individual reactions in the containment process.

Quantum Fisher information and skew information correlations in dipolar spin system

Quantum Fisher information (QFI) and skew information (SI) plays a key role in the quantum resource theory. Understanding these measures in the physical system has practical significance in the state parameter estimation and quantum metrology. In this article, we consider a pair ofspin-1/2 particles coupled with dipolar and Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interactions, serving as the physical carrier of quantum information. We examine the bipartite nonlocal correlations of pair of spin-1/2 particle system for the thermal equilibrium states, characterized by local quantum uncertainty (LQU) and local quantum Fisher information (lQFI). The effects of dipolar coupling constants on quantum correlation quantifiers are studied. The DM interaction greatly enhances the quantum correlation in the system whereas the temperature tends to annihilate the amount of quantum correlations.

Influence of dissipation on extreme oscillations of a forced anharmonic oscillator

Dynamics of a periodically forced anharmonic oscillator (AO) with cubic nonlinearity, linear damping, and nonlinear damping, is studied. To begin with, the authors examine the dynamics of an AO. Due to this symmetric nature, the system has two neutrally stable elliptic equilibrium points in positive and negative potential-wells. Hence, the unforced system can exhibit both single-well and double-well periodic oscillations depending on the initial conditions. Next, the authors include nonlinear damping into the system. Then, the symmetry of the system is broken instantly and the stability of the two elliptic points is altered to result in stable focus and unstable focus in the positive and negative potential-wells, respectively. Consequently, the system is dual-natured and is either non-dissipative or dissipative, depending on location in the phase space. Furthermore, when one includes a periodic external forcing with suitable parameter values into the nonlinearly damped AO system and starts to increase the damping strength, the symmetry of the system is not broken right away, but it occurs after the damping reaches a threshold value. As a result, the system undergoes a transition from double-well chaotic oscillations to single-well chaos mediated through extreme events (EEs). Furthermore, it is found that the large-amplitude oscillations developed in the system are completely eliminated if one incorporates linear damping into the system. The numerically calculated results are in good agreement with the theoretically obtained results on the basis of Melnikov's function. Further, it is demonstrated that when one includes linear damping into the system, this system has a dissipative nature throughout the entire phase space of the system. This is believed to be the key to the elimination of EEs.

Parametric excitation induced extreme events in MEMS and Lienard oscillator

The two paradigmatic nonlinear oscillatory models with parametric excitation are studied. The authors provide theoretical evidence for the appearance of extreme events (EEs) in those systems. First, the authors consider a well known Lienard type oscillator that shows the emergence of EEs via two bifurcation routes: Intermittency and period-doubling routes for two different critical values of the excitation frequency. The authors also calculate the return time of two successive EEs, defined as inter-event intervals, that follow Poisson-like distribution, confirm the rarity of the events. Further, the total energy of the Lienard oscillator is estimated to explain the mechanism for the development of EEs. Next, the authors confirmed the emergence of EEs in a parametrically excited microelectromechanical system. In this model, EEs occur due to the appearance of stick-slip bifurcation near the discontinuous boundary of the system. Since the parametric excitation is encountered in several real-world engineering models, like macro and micromechanical oscillators, the implications of the results presented in this paper are perhaps beneficial to understand the development of EEs in such oscillatory systems.

Influence of field-like torque in synchronization of spin torque oscillators

The magnetization dynamics of two parallelly coupled spin torque oscillators, destabilization of steady states and removal of multistability, are investigated by taking into account the influence of field-like torque. It is shown that the existence of such torque can cancel the effect of damping and can, therefore, cause the oscillators to exhibit synchronized oscillations in response to direct current. Further, our results show that the presence of field-like torque enhances the power and Q-factor of the synchronized oscillations. The validity of the above results is confirmed by numerical and analytical studies based on the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert-Slonczewski equation.

Intrinsic decoherence effects on measurement-induced nonlocality

By considering an exactly solvable model of a two interacting spin-1/2 qubits described by the Heisenberg anisotropic interaction in the presence of intrinsic decoherence, we study the dynamics of entanglement quantified by the concurrence and measurement-induced nonlocality (MIN) based on Hilbert-Schmidt norm and trace distance with different initial conditions. We highlight the relationship between the entanglement and MIN for the pure initial state. For an initial separable state, it is found that the robustness and the generation of the quantum correlations depend on the physical parameters. While considering the entangled state as an initial state, the results show that despite the phase decoherence all the correlations reach their steady state values after exhibiting some oscillations. Finally, we show that the existence of quantum correlation captured by MIN in the unentangled state.

Frequency enhancement and power tunability in tilted polarizer spin-torque nano oscillator

In the absence of an applied magnetic field, a spin-torque nano oscillator(STNO) with a tilted polarizer is studied using numerical simulation of the associated Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert-Slonczewski equation. We find considerable enhancement of frequency by tilting the polarizer out-of-plane appropriately. Also, we observe improved tunability of frequency of oscillations from 15 GHz to 75 GHz and increment in the power spectral density by current and tilt angle. In addition, our findings and insights pave a simple way for nanoscale level microwave generators to be implemented.

Quantum coherence and correlation measures based on affinity

Coherence and correlation are key features of the quantum system. Quantifying these quantities are astounding task in the framework of resource theory of quantum information processing. In this article, we identify an affinity-based metric to quantify closeness between two states. Using this metric, we introduce a valid quantum coherence measure. It is shown that the affinity based coherence measure is bounded by that based on fidelity and trace distance. Further, we propose a bipartite quantum correlation measure based on the affinity metric. The connection between the quantum correlation of states and its local coherence is established. The measure of quantumness in terms of difference of bipartite coherence and corresponding product state coherence is also identified. Finally, we interpret the operational meaning of the affinity based coherence as an upper bound of interferometric power of the quantum state.

Aging transition in the absence of inactive oscillators

The role of counter-rotating oscillators in an ensemble of coexisting co- and counter-rotating oscillators is examined by increasing the proportion of the latter. The phenomenon of aging transition was identified at a critical value of the ratio of the counter-rotating oscillators, which was otherwise realized only by increasing the number of inactive oscillators to a large extent. The effect of the mean-field feedback strength in the symmetry preserving coupling is also explored. The parameter space of aging transition was increased abruptly even for a feeble decrease in the feedback strength and subsequently, the aging transition was observed at a critical value of the feedback strength surprisingly without any counter-rotating oscillators. Further, the study was extended to symmetry breaking coupling using conjugate variables and it was observed that the symmetry breaking coupling can facilitating the onset of aging transition even in the absence of counter-rotating oscillators and for the unit value of the feedback strength. In general, the parameter space of aging transition was found to increase by increasing the frequency of oscillators and by increasing the proportion of the counter-rotating oscillators in both the symmetry preserving and symmetry breaking couplings. Further, the transition from oscillatory to aging transition occurs via a Hopf bifurcation, while the transition from aging transition to oscillation death state emerges via Pitchfork bifurcation. Analytical expressions for the critical ratio of the counter- rotating oscillators are deduced to find the stable boundaries of the aging transition.

Characterizing nonclassical correlation using affinity

Geometric discord, a measure of quantumness of bipartite system, captures minimal nonlocal effects of a quantum state due to locally invariant von Neumann projective measurements. Original version of this measure is suffered by the local ancilla problem. In this article, we propose a new version of geometric discord using affinity. This quantity satisfies all criteria of a good measure of quantum correlation of the bipartite system and resolves local ancilla problem of Hilbert-Schmidt norm based discord. We evaluate analytically the proposed quantity for both pure and mixed states. For an arbitrary pure state, it is shown that affinity based geometric discord equal to geometric measure of entanglement. Further, we obtain a lower bound of this measure for m \times n dimensional arbitrary mixed state and a closed formula of proposed version of geometric discord for 2 \times n dimensional mixed state is obtained. Finally, as an illustration, we have studied the nonlocality of Bell diagonal state, isotropic and Werner states.
