Analysis of a spatio-temporal advection-diffusion model for human behaviors during a catastrophic event

In this work, using the theory of first-order macroscopic crowd models, we introduce a compartmental advection-diffusion model, describing the spatio-temporal dynamics of a population in different human behaviors (alert, panic and control) during a catastrophic event. For this model, we prove the local existence, uniqueness and regularity of a solution, as well as the positivity and $L^1$--boundedness of this solution. Then, in order to study the spatio-temporal propagation of these behavioral reactions within a population during a catastrophic event, we present several numerical simulations for different evacuation scenarios.

The Hodgkin-Huxley equations constitute one of the more realistic neuronal models in literature and the most accepted one. It is well known that, depending on the value of the external stimuli current, it exhibits periodic solutions, both stable and unstable. Our aim is to detect and characterize such periodic solutions, exploiting a robust and manageable technique, mainly based on harmonic balance method

Complex dynamics in hard oscillators: the influence of constant inputs

Systems with the coexistence of different stable attractors are widely exploited in systems biology in order to suitably model the differentiating processes arising in living cells. In order to describe genetic regulatory networks several deterministic models based on systems of nonlinear ordinary differential equations have been proposed. Few studies have been developed to characterize how either an external input or the coupling can drive systems with different coexisting states. For the sake of simplicity, in this manuscript we focus on systems belonging to the class of radial isochron clocks that exhibits hard excitation, in order to investigate their complex dynamics, local and global bifurcations arising in presence of constant external inputs. In particular the occurrence of saddle node on limit cycle bifurcations is detected.
