Quantum brachistochrone problem for two spins-1/2 with anisotropic Heisenberg interaction

We study the quantum brachistochrone evolution for a system of two spins-$\frac{1}{2}$ described by an anisotropic Heisenberg Hamiltonian without $zx$, $zy$ interacting couplings in magnetic field directed along the z-axis. This Hamiltonian realizes quantum evolution in two subspaces spanned by $\|\uparrow\uparrow\rangle$, $\|\downarrow\downarrow\rangle$ and $\|\uparrow\downarrow\rangle$, $\|\downarrow\uparrow\rangle$ separately and allows to consider the brachistochrone problem on each subspace separately. Using the evolution operator for this Hamiltonian we generate quantum gates, namely an entangler gate, SWAP gate, iSWAP gate et al.

Deformed Heisenberg algebra with minimal length and equivalence principle

Studies in string theory and quantum gravity lead to the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) and suggest the existence of a fundamental minimal length which, as was established, can be obtained within the deformed Heisenberg algebra. The first look on the classical motion of bodies in a space with corresponding deformed Poisson brackets in a uniform gravitational field can give an impression that bodies of different mass fall in different ways and thus the equivalence principle is violated. Analyzing the kinetic energy of a composite body we find that the motion of its center of mass in the deformed space depends on some effective parameter of deformation. It gives a possibility to recover the equivalence principle in the space with deformed Poisson brackets. and thus GUP is reconciled with the equivalence principle. We also show that the independence of kinetic energy on composition leads to the recovering of the equivalence principle in the space with deformed Poisson brackets.

Deformed Heisenberg algebra and minimal length

A one-dimensional deformed Heisenberg algebra $[X,P]=if(P)$ is studied. We answer the question: For what function of deformation $f(P)$ there exists a nonzero minimal uncertainty in position (minimal length). We also find an explicit expression for the minimal length in the case of arbitrary function of deformation.

Composite system in deformed space with minimal length

For composite systems made of $N$ different particles living in a space characterized by the same deformed Heisenberg algebra, but with different deformation parameters, we define the total momentum and the center-of-mass position to first order in the deformation parameters. Such operators satisfy the deformed algebra with new effective deformation parameters. As a consequence, a two-particle system can be reduced to a one-particle problem for the internal motion. As an example, the correction to the hydrogen atom $n$S energy levels is re-evaluated. Comparison with high-precision experimental data leads to an upper bound of the minimal length for the electron equal to $3.3\times 10^{-18} {\rm m}$. The effective Hamiltonian describing the center-of-mass motion of a macroscopic body in an external potential is also found. For such a motion, the effective deformation parameter is substantially reduced due to a factor $1/N^2$. This explains the strangely small result previously obtained for the minimal length from a comparison with the observed precession of the perihelion of Mercury. From our study, an upper bound of the minimal length for quarks equal to $2.4\times 10^{-17}{\rm m}$ is deduced, which appears close to that obtained for electrons.

Orbital magnetic moment of the electron in the hydrogen atom in deformed space with minimal length

We investigated the orbital magnetic moment of electron in the hydrogen atom in deformed space with minimal length. It turned out that corrections to the magnetic moment caused by deformation depend on one parameter in the presence of two-parametric deformation. It is interesting to note that the correction to orbital magnetic moment is similar to the correction that follows from relativistic theory but it has an opposite sign. Using the upper bound for minimal length obtained in previous papers we estimated the upper bound for relative correction to orbital magnetic moment and obtained the value $\sim 10^{-12}$. This is four power less than the relative error for most recent experimental values of Bohr magneton.

Quantum brachistochrone problem for spin-1 in a magnetic field

We study quantum brachistochrone problem for the spin-1 system in a magnetic field of a constant absolute value. Such system gives us a possibility to examine in detail the statement of papers [A. Carlini {\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 96}, 060503 (2006), D. C. Brody, D. W. Hook, J. Phys. A {\bf 39}, L167, (2006)] that {\it the state vectors realizing the evolution with the minimal time of passage evolve along the subspace spanned by the initial and final state vectors.} Using explicit example we show the existence of quantum brachistochrone with minimal possible time, but the state vector of which, during the evolution {\em leaves} the subspace spanned by the initial and final state vectors. This is the result of the choice of more constrained Hamiltonian then assumed in the general quantum brachistochrone problem, but what is worth noting, despite that such evolution is more complicated it is still time optimal. This might be important for experiment, where general Hamiltonian with the all allowed parameters is difficult to implement, but constrained one depending on magnetic field can be realized. However for pre-constrained Hamiltonian not all final states are accessible. Present result does not contradict general statement of the quantum brachistochrone problem, but gives new insight how time optimal passage can be realized.

Scattering problem in deformed space with minimal length

We investigated the elastic scattering problem with deformed Heisenberg algebra leading to the existence of a minimal length. The continuity equations for the moving particle in deformed space were constructed. We obtained the Green's function for a free particle, scattering amplitude and cross-section in deformed space. We also calculated the scattering amplitudes and differential cross-sections for the Yukawa and the Coulomb potentials in the Born approximation.

Lorentz-covariant deformed algebra with minimal length

The $D$-dimensional two-parameter deformed algebra with minimal length introduced by Kempf is generalized to a Lorentz-covariant algebra describing a ($D+1$)-dimensional quantized space-time. For D=3, it includes Snyder algebra as a special case. The deformed Poincaré transformations leaving the algebra invariant are identified. Uncertainty relations are studied. In the case of D=1 and one nonvanishing parameter, the bound-state energy spectrum and wavefunctions of the Dirac oscillator are exactly obtained.

Lorentz-covariant deformed algebra with minimal length and application to the 1+1-dimensional Dirac oscillator

The $D$-dimensional $(β, β')$-two-parameter deformed algebra introduced by Kempf is generalized to a Lorentz-covariant algebra describing a ($D+1$)-dimensional quantized space-time. In the D=3 and $β=0$ case, the latter reproduces Snyder algebra. The deformed Poincaré transformations leaving the algebra invariant are identified. It is shown that there exists a nonzero minimal uncertainty in position (minimal length). The Dirac oscillator in a 1+1-dimensional space-time described by such an algebra is studied in the case where $β'=0$. Extending supersymmetric quantum mechanical and shape-invariance methods to energy-dependent Hamiltonians provides exact bound-state energies and wavefunctions. Physically acceptable states exist for $β< 1/(m^2 c^2)$. A new interesting outcome is that, in contrast with the conventional Dirac oscillator, the energy spectrum is bounded.

Perturbation hydrogen-atom spectrum in deformed space with minimal length

We study energy spectrum for hydrogen atom with deformed Heisenberg algebra leading to minimal length. We develop correct perturbation theory free of divergences. It gives a possibility to calculate analytically in the 3D case the corrections to $s$-levels of hydrogen atom caused by the minimal length. Comparing our result with experimental data from precision hydrogen spectroscopy an upper bound for the minimal length is obtained.

One dimensional Coulomb-like problem in deformed space with minimal length

Spectrum and eigenfunctions in the momentum representation for 1D Coulomb potential with deformed Heisenberg algebra leading to minimal length are found exactly. It is shown that correction due to the deformation is proportional to square root of the deformation parameter. We obtain the same spectrum using Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization condition.

WKB approximation in deformed space with minimal length

The WKB approximation for deformed space with minimal length is considered. The Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule is obtained. A new interesting feature in presence of deformation is that the WKB approximation is valid for intermediate quantum numbers and can be invalid for small as well as very large quantum numbers. The correctness of the rule is verified by comparing obtained results with exact expressions for corresponding spectra.

Hamiltonians with position-dependent mass, deformations and supersymmetry

A new method for generating exactly solvable Schrödinger equations with a position-dependent mass is proposed. It is based on a relation with some deformed Schrödinger equations, which can be dealt with by using a supersymmetric quantum mechanical approach combined with a deformed shape-invariance condition. The solvability of the latter is shown to impose the form of both the deformed superpotential and the position-dependent mass. The conditions for the existence of bound states are determined. A lot of examples are provided and the corresponding bound-state spectrum and wavefunctions are reviewed.

Deformed shape invariance and exactly solvable Hamiltonians with position-dependent effective mass

Known shape-invariant potentials for the constant-mass Schrodinger equation are taken as effective potentials in a position-dependent effective mass (PDEM) one. The corresponding shape-invariance condition turns out to be deformed. Its solvability imposes the form of both the deformed superpotential and the PDEM. A lot of new exactly solvable potentials associated with a PDEM background are generated in this way. A novel and important condition restricting the existence of bound states whenever the PDEM vanishes at an end point of the interval is identified. In some cases, the bound-state spectrum results from a smooth deformation of that of the conventional shape-invariant potential used in the construction. In others, one observes a generation or suppression of bound states, depending on the mass-parameter values. The corresponding wavefunctions are given in terms of some deformed classical orthogonal polynomials.

Dirac oscillator with nonzero minimal uncertainty in position

In the context of some deformed canonical commutation relations leading to isotropic nonzero minimal uncertainties in the position coordinates, a Dirac equation is exactly solved for the first time, namely that corresponding to the Dirac oscillator. Supersymmetric quantum mechanical and shape-invariance methods are used to derive both the energy spectrum and wavefunctions in the momentum representation. As for the conventional Dirac oscillator, there are neither negative-energy states for $E=-1$, nor symmetry between the $l = j - {1/2}$ and $l = j + {1/2}$ cases, both features being connected with supersymmetry or, equivalently, the $ω\to - ω$ transformation. In contrast with the conventional case, however, the energy spectrum does not present any degeneracy pattern apart from that associated with the rotational symmetry. More unexpectedly, deformation leads to a difference in behaviour between the $l = j - {1/2}$ states corresponding to small, intermediate and very large $j$ values in the sense that only for the first ones supersymmetry remains unbroken, while for the second ones no bound state does exist.

More on a SUSYQM approach to the harmonic oscillator with nonzero minimal uncertainties in position and/or momentum

We continue our previous application of supersymmetric quantum mechanical methods to eigenvalue problems in the context of some deformed canonical commutation relations leading to nonzero minimal uncertainties in position and/or momentum. Here we determine for the first time the spectrum and the eigenvectors of a one-dimensional harmonic oscillator in the presence of a uniform electric field in terms of the deforming parameters $α$, $β$. We establish that whenever there is a nonzero minimal uncertainty in momentum, i.e., for $α\ne 0$, the correction to the harmonic oscillator eigenvalues due to the electric field is level dependent. In the opposite case, i.e., for $α= 0$, we recover the conventional quantum mechanical picture of an overall energy-spectrum shift even when there is a nonzero minimum uncertainty in position, i.e., for $β\ne 0$. Then we consider the problem of a $D$-dimensional harmonic oscillator in the case of isotropic nonzero minimal uncertainties in the position coordinates, depending on two parameters $β$, $β'$. We extend our methods to deal with the corresponding radial equation in the momentum representation and rederive in a simple way both the spectrum and the momentum radial wave functions previously found by solving the differential equation. This opens the way to solving new $D$-dimensional problems.

Deformed algebras, position-dependent effective masses and curved spaces: An exactly solvable Coulomb problem

We show that there exist some intimate connections between three unconventional Schrödinger equations based on the use of deformed canonical commutation relations, of a position-dependent effective mass or of a curved space, respectively. This occurs whenever a specific relation between the deforming function, the position-dependent mass and the (diagonal) metric tensor holds true. We illustrate these three equivalent approaches by considering a new Coulomb problem and solving it by means of supersymmetric quantum mechanical and shape invariance techniques. We show that in contrast with the conventional Coulomb problem, the new one gives rise to only a finite number of bound states.
