The branching fraction measurements of $J/ψ$ decay into $ρη$ and $ϕη$ final states

We present measurements of the branching fractions for the $J/ψ$ meson decays into the $ρη$ and $ϕη$ final states, based on data collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M collider. The data set consisted of 4.93 million $J/ψ$ events. The resulting branching fractions are: - $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to ρη) = (2.04 \pm 0.58 \pm 0.39)\times 10^{-4}$, - $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to ϕη) = (7.82 \pm 1.17 \pm 0.58) \times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second one is systematic. In the study of the $ρη$ decay, the dynamics of $J/ψ\toπ^+π^-η$ is analyzed. The hints from contributions of $ρ(1450)η$ and $a^{\pm}_2π^{\mp}$ intermediate states are observed. Additional measured branching fractions in the model that includes $ρ(1450)η$ and $a^{\pm}_2π^{\mp}$ are: - $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to π^+π^-η) = (4.73 \pm 0.49 \pm 1.17)\times10^{-4}$, - $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to (a_2^+π^- + a_2^- π^+)) = (1.05\pm 0.37 \pm 0.34)\times 10^{-3}$, - $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to ρ(1450)η\to π^+π^-η) < 1.51 \times 10^{-4}$, at a confidence level of 90\%. All results are consistent with previous studies.

Measurement of the branching fraction of $J/ψ\rightarrowρπ$ at KEDR

We present the study of the decay $J/ψ\rightarrow ρπ$. The results are based on of 5.2~million $J/ψ$ events collected by the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M collider. The branching fractions are measured to be $\B(J/ψ\rightarrow ρπ) = \big(2.072\pm 0.017 \pm 0.062 \big)\cdot 10^{-2}$ and $\B(J/ψ\rightarrow π^+π^-π^0) = \big(1.878 \pm 0.013 \pm 0.051 \big)\cdot 10^{-2}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Our results are more precise than the previous relative measurements.

Precise measurement of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ between 1.84 and 3.72 GeV at the KEDR detector

The present work continues a series of the KEDR measurements of the $R$ value that started in 2010 at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider. By combining new data with our previous results in this energy range we measured the values of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ at nine center-of-mass energies between 3.08 and 3.72 GeV. The total accuracy is about or better than $2.6\%$ at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about $1.9\%$. Together with the previous precise $R$ measurement at KEDR in the energy range 1.84-3.05 GeV, it constitutes the most detailed high-precision $R$ measurement near the charmonium production threshold.

Measurement of $Γ_{ee}\times\mathcal{B}_{μμ}$ for $ψ(2S)$ meson

The product of the electronic width of the $ψ(2S)$ meson and the branching fraction of its decay to the muon pair was measured in the $e^{+}e^{-} \to ψ(2S) \to μ^{+}μ^{-}$ process using nine data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 6.5 pb$^{-1}$ collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider: \[ Γ_{ee}\times\mathcal{B}_{μμ} = 19.3 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.5 ~\text{eV}. \] Adding the previous KEDR results on hadronic and leptonic channels, the values of the $ψ(2S)$ electronic width were obtained under two assumptions: either with the assumption of lepton universality \[ Γ_{ee} = 2.279 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.042 ~\text{keV} \] or without it, summing up hadronic and three independent leptonic channels: \[ Γ_{ee} = 2.282 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.042 ~\text{keV}. \]

Measurement of $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ)$ with KEDR detector

The product of the electronic width of the $J/ψ$ meson and the branching fractions of its decay to hadrons and electrons has been measured using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider. The obtained values are: $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ) = 5.550 \pm 0.056 \pm 0.089 \, \text{keV}, $ $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ) \cdot \mathcal{B}_\text{hadrons}(J/ψ) = 4.884 \pm 0.048 \pm 0.078 \, \text{keV}, $ $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ) \cdot \mathcal{B}_{ee}(J/ψ) = 0.3331 \pm 0.0066 \pm 0.0040 \, \text{keV}.$ The uncertainties shown are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the result presented and the world-average value of the electronic branching fraction, one obtains the total width of the $J/ψ$ meson: $Γ= 92.94 \pm 1.83 \, \text{keV}.$ These results are consistent with the previous experiments.

Energy scale calibration of KEDR detector tagging system

The tagging system of the KEDR detector is a symmetrical focusing magnetic spectrometer for electrons and positrons scattered at small angles; it is embedded into the lattice of the VEPP-4M collider and intended for two-photon processes study. It measures scattered electron energy with resolution $ΔE/E_0=0.03\%...0.6\%$ ($E_0$ is the beam energy). For precise energy scale calibration two methods are used: tagging of bremsstrahlung electron/positron by the photon energy measured by BGO calorimeter, and direct calibration using Compton backscattering spectrum edge. This report covers design and current status of the calibration system.

Proposal for VEPP-4M beam energy measurement using magnetic spectrometer with Compton calibration and photon detector

A method for circular e$^-$/e$^+$ accelerator beam energy measurement is proposed. Coordinate of an electron (or a positron) in a focusing magnetic spectrometer built in a circular accelerator depends on its energy, two spectrometer parameters, and the circulating beam energy. The spectrometer parameters can be defined using minimum electron energies from Compton backscattering with two laser wavelengths, and an additional photon coordinate detector. The photon detector is calibrated at once at well-known beam energy. The VEPP-4M collider has appropriate equipment for the method implementation: built-in focusing magnetic spectrometer, Compton calibration system with two lasers and a photon coordinate detector. Thus, the proposed technique could be implemented with minimum efforts; tests and further upgrade are planned. The beam energy can be defined with expected uncertainty better than $10^{-4}$.

Measurement of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ between 3.12 and 3.72 GeV at the KEDR detector

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider, we have measured the values of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ at seven points of the center-of-mass energy between 3.12 and 3.72 GeV. The total achieved accuracy is about or better than $3.3\%$ at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about $2.1\%$. At the moment it is the most accurate measurement of $R(s)$ in this energy range.

Measurement of the two-photon exchange contribution to the elastic $e^{\pm}p$ scattering cross sections at the VEPP-3 storage ring

The ratio of the elastic $e^+ p$ to $e^- p$ scattering cross sections has been measured precisely, allowing the determination of the two-photon exchange contribution to these processes. This neglected contribution is believed to be the cause of the discrepancy between the Rosenbluth and polarization transfer methods of measuring the proton electromagnetic form factors. The experiment was performed at the VEPP-3 storage ring at beam energies of 1.6 and 1.0 GeV and at lepton scattering angles between $15^\circ$ and $105^\circ$. The data obtained show evidence of a significant two-photon exchange effect. The results are compared with several theoretical predictions.

Measurement of $J/ψ\toγη_{\rm c}$ decay rate and $η_{\rm c}$ parameters at KEDR

Using the inclusive photon spectrum based on a data sample collected at the $J/ψ$ peak with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider, we measured the rate of the radiative decay $J/ψ\toγη_{\rm c}$ as well as $η_{\rm c}$ mass and width. Taking into account an asymmetric photon lineshape we obtained $Γ^0_{γη_{\rm c}}=2.98\pm0.18 \phantom{|}^{+0.15}_{-0.33}$ keV, $M_{η_{\rm c}} = 2983.5 \pm 1.4 \phantom{|}^{+1.6}_{-3.6}$ MeV/$c^2$, $Γ_{η_{\rm c}} = 27.2 \pm 3.1 \phantom{|}^{+5.4}_{-2.6}$ MeV.

Compton Backscattering for the Calibration of KEDR Tagging System

KEDR detector has the tagging system (TS) to study the gamma-gamma processes. To determine the two-photon invariant mass, the energies of the scattered at small angles electrons and positrons are measured by the magnetic spectrometer embedded into the lattice of the VEPP--4M collider. The energy resolution (scattered electron/positron energy resolution divided by the beam energy) of this spectrometer varies from 0.6% to 0.03% depending on the electron/positron energy. The Compton backscattering of laser radiation on the electron/positron beam is used for the accurate energy scale and resolution calibration of the tagging system. The report covers the design, recent results and current status of the KEDR TS calibration system.

Beam energy measurements for an experiment on elastic $e^{\pm}p$ scattering at the VEPP-3 storage ring

A precise comparison of the cross sections for the elastic scattering of electrons and positrons on protons was performed recently at the VEPP-3 storage ring in Novosibirsk, Russia. To provide the proposed accuracy, the energies of the electron and positron beams used during the experiment needed to be carefully maintained. This paper describes a special beam energy measurement system used in this experiment. This system is based on measuring the maximum energy of laser photons backscattered from electron and positron beams. It provides continuous beam energy measurements with a total relative uncertainty of less than $4.4 \cdot 10^{-5}$.

Measurement of the ratio of the leptonic widths $Γ_{ee}/Γ_{μμ}$ for the $J/ψ$ meson

The ratio of the electron and muon widths of the $J/ψ$ meson has been measured using direct $J/ψ$ decays in the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider. The result $Γ_{ee}(J/ψ)/Γ_{μμ}(J/ψ)=1.0022\pm0.0044\pm0.0048\ (0.65\%)$ is in good agreement with the lepton universality. The experience collected during this analysis will be used for a $J/ψ$ lepton width determination with up to 1% accuracy.

Parameters of charmonium states from KEDR

We report results of experiments performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider. They include final results for the mass and other parameters of the $J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$ and $ψ(3770)$ and $J/ψ\toγη_c$ branching fraction determination.

Measurement of ψ(3770) parameters

We report the final results of a study of the ψ(3770) meson using a data sample collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider. The data analysis takes into account the interference between the resonant and nonresonant $D\bar{D}$ production, where the latter is related to the nonresonant part of the energy-dependent form factor $F_D$. The vector dominance approach and several empirical parameterizations have been tried for the nonresonant $F_D^{\NR}(s)$. Our results for the mass and total width of ψ(3770) are M = 3779.2 ^{+1.8}_{-1.7} ^{+0.5}_{-0.7} ^{+0.3}_{-0.3} MeV, Γ=24.9 ^{+4.6}_{-4.0} ^{+0.5}_{-0.6} ^{+0.2}_{-0.9} MeV, where the first, second and third uncertainties are statistical, systematic and model, respectively. For the electron partial width two possible solutions have been found: (1) Γ_{ee} = 154 ^{+79}_{-58} ^{+17}_{-9} ^{+13}_{-25} eV, (2) Γ_{ee} = 414 ^{+72}_{-80} ^{+24}_{-26} ^{+90}_{-10} eV. Our statistics are insufficient to prefer one solution to another. The solution (2) mitigates the problem of non-$D\bar{D}$ decays but is disfavored by potential models. It is shown that taking into account the resonance--continuum interference in the near-threshold region affects resonance parameters, thus the results presented can not be directly compared with the corresponding PDG values obtained ignoring this effect.

Measurement of the two-photon exchange contribution in elastic $ep$ scattering at VEPP-3

We report on the status of the Novosibirsk experiment on a precision measurement of the ratio $R$ of the elastic $e^+ p$ and $e^- p$ scattering cross sections. Such measurements determine the two-photon exchange effect in elastic electron-proton scattering. The experiment is conducted at the VEPP-3 storage ring using a hydrogen internal gas target. The ratio $R$ is measured with a beam energy of 1.6 GeV (electron/positron scattering angles are $θ= 55 ÷75^{\circ}$ and $θ= 15 ÷25^{\circ}$) and 1 GeV ($θ= 65 ÷105^{\circ}$). We briefly describe the experimental method, paying special attention to the radiative corrections. Some preliminary results are presented.

Measurement of main parameters of the ψ(2S) resonance

A high-precision determination of the main parameters of the ψ(2S) resonance has been performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e^{+}e^{-} collider in three scans of the ψ(2S) -- ψ(3770) energy range. Fitting the energy dependence of the multihadron cross section in the vicinity of the ψ(2S) we obtained the mass value M = 3686.114 +- 0.007 +- 0.011 ^{+0.002}_{-0.012} MeV and the product of the electron partial width by the branching fraction into hadrons Γ_{ee}*B_{h} = 2.233 +- 0.015 +- 0.037 +- 0.020 keV. The third error quoted is an estimate of the model dependence of the result due to assumptions on the interference effects in the cross section of the single-photon e^{+}e^{-} annihilation to hadrons explicitly considered in this work. Implicitly, the same assumptions were employed to obtain the charmonium leptonic width and the absolute branching fractions in many experiments. Using the result presented and the world average values of the electron and hadron branching fractions, one obtains the electron partial width and the total width of the ψ(2S): Γ_{ee} =2.282 +- 0.015 +- 0.038 +- 0.021 keV, Γ= 296 +- 2 +- 8 +- 3 keV. These results are consistent with and more than two times more precise than any of the previous experiments.
