Hyperbolic hypergeometric integrals are defined as Barnes-type integrals of products of hyperbolic gamma functions. Their reduction to ordinary hypergeometric functions is well known. We study in detail their degeneration to complex hypergeometric functions. Namely, using uniform bounds on the integrands, we prove that the univariate hyperbolic beta integral and the conical function degenerate to two-dimensional integrals over the complex plane.
We consider different pentagon identities realized by the hyperbolic hypergeometric functions and investigate their degenerations to the level of complex hypergeometric functions. In particular, we show that one of the degenerations yields the complex binomial theorem which coincides with the Fourier transformation of the complex analogue of the Euler beta integral. At the bottom we obtain a Fourier transformation formula for the complex gamma function. This is done with the help of a new type of the limit $ω_1+ω_2\to 0$ (or $b\to \textrm{i}$ in two-dimensional conformal field theory) applied to the hyperbolic hypergeometric integrals.
We consider a complex rational degeneration of the hyperbolic Ruijsenaars model emerging in the limit $ω_1+ω_2\to 0$ (or $b\to \imath$ in $2d$ CFT) and investigate in detail the two-particle case. Corresponding wave functions are described by complex hypergeometric functions in the Mellin-Barnes representation. Their dual integral representation and reflection symmetry in the coupling constant are established. Besides, a complex limit of the hyperbolic Baxter $Q$-operators is considered. Another complex degeneration of the hyperbolic Ruijsenaars model is obtained by taking a special $ω_1-ω_2\to 0$ (or $b\to 1$) limit. Additionally, two new degenerations to the complex Calogero-Sutherland type models are described.
We consider some new limits for the elliptic hypergeometric integrals on root systems. After the degeneration of elliptic beta integrals of type I and type II for root systems $A_n$ and $C_n$ to the hyperbolic hypergeometric integrals, we apply the limit $ω_1\to - ω_2$ for their quasiperiods (corresponding to $b\to i$ in the two-dimensional conformal field theory) and obtain complex beta integrals in the Mellin--Barnes representation admitting exact evaluation. Considering type I elliptic hypergeometric integrals of a higher order obeying nontrivial symmetry transformations, we derive their descendants to the level of complex hypergeometric functions and prove the Derkachov--Manashov conjectures for functions emerging in the theory of non-compact spin chains. We describe also symmetry transformations for a type II complex hypergeometric function on the $C_n$-root system related to the recently derived generalized complex Selberg integral. For some hyperbolic beta integrals we consider a special limit $ω_1\to ω_2$ (or $b\to 1$) and obtain new hypergeometric identities for sums of integrals of rational functions.
We derive finite difference equations of infinite order for theta hypergeometric series and investigate the space of their solutions. In general, such infinite series diverge, we describe some constraints on the parameters when they do converge. In particular, we lift the Hardy-Littlewood criterion on the convergence of $q$-hypergeometric series for $|q|=1, \, q^n\neq 1$, to the elliptic level and prove convergence of the infinite ${}_{r+1}V_r$ very-well poised elliptic hypergeometric series for restricted values of $q$.
We discuss a general relation between the solitons and statistical mechanics and show that the partition function of the normal random matrix model can be obtained from the multi-soliton solutions of the two-dimensional Toda lattice hierarchy in a special limit.
We show that the complex hypergeometric function describing $6j$-symbols for $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$ group is a special degeneration of the $V$-function -- an elliptic analogue of the Euler-Gauss $_2F_1$ hypergeometric function. For this function, we derive mixed difference-recurrence relations as limiting forms of the elliptic hypergeometric equation and some symmetry transformations. At the intermediate steps of computations, there emerge a function describing the $6j$-symbols for the Faddeev modular double and the corresponding difference equations and symmetry transformations.
General reduction of the elliptic hypergeometric equation to the level of complex hypergeometric functions is described. The derived equation is generalized to the Hamiltonian eigenvalue problem for new rational integrable $N$-body systems emerging from particular degenerations of the elliptic Ruijsenaars and van Diejen models.
We give a brief account of the key properties of elliptic hypergeometric integrals -- a relatively recently discovered top class of transcendental special functions of hypergeometric type. In particular, we describe an elliptic generalization of Euler's and Selberg's beta integrals, elliptic analogue of the Euler-Gauss hypergeometric function and some multivariable elliptic hypergeometric functions on root systems. The elliptic Fourier transformation and corresponding integral Bailey lemma technique is outlined together with a connection to the star-triangle relation and Coxeter relations for a permutation group. We review also the interpretation of elliptic hypergeometric integrals as superconformal indices of four dimensional supersymmetric quantum field theories and corresponding applications to Seiberg type dualities.
A brief description of the relations between the factorization method in quantum mechanics, self-similar potentials, integrable systems and the theory of special functions is given. New coherent states of the harmonic oscillator related to the Fourier transformation are constructed.
An elliptic Bailey lemma is formulated on the basis of the univariate rarefied elliptic beta integral. It leads to a generalized operator star-triangle relation and a new solution of the Yang-Baxter equation written as an integral operator with a rarefied elliptic hypergeometric kernel.
Two exact evaluation formulae for multiple rarefied elliptic beta integrals related to the simplest lens space are proved. They generalize evaluations of the type I and II elliptic beta integrals attached to the root system $C_n$. In a special $n=1$ case, the simplest $p\to 0$ limit is shown to lead to a new class of $q$-hypergeometric identities. Symmetries of a rarefied elliptic analogue of the Euler-Gauss hypergeometric function are described and the respective generalization of the hypergeometric equation is constructed. Some extensions of the latter function to $C_n$ and $A_n$ root systems and corresponding symmetry transformations are considered. An application of the rarefied type II $C_n$ elliptic hypergeometric function to some eigenvalue problems is briefly discussed.
We study 6j-symbols, or Racah coefficients for tensor products of infinite-dimensional unitary principal series representations of the group SL(2,C). These symbols were constructed earlier by Ismagilov and we rederive his result (up to some slight difference associated with equivalent representations) using the Feynman diagrams technique. The resulting 6j-symbols are expressed either as a triple integral over complex plane with a symmetric kernel or as an infinite bilateral sum of integrals of the Mellin-Barnes type.
This is a brief overview of the status of the theory of elliptic hypergeometric functions to the end of 2012 written as a complementary chapter to the Russian edition of the book by G.E. Andrews, R. Askey, and R. Roy, Special Functions, Encycl. of Math. Appl. 71, Cambridge Univ. Press, 1999.
We construct a hyperbolic modular double -- an algebra lying in between the Faddeev modular double for $U_q(sl_2)$ and the elliptic modular double. The intertwining operator for this algebra leads to an integral operator solution of the Yang-Baxter equation associated with a generalized Faddeev-Volkov lattice model introduced by the second author. We describe also the L-operator and finite-dimensional R-matrices for this model.
This is author's Habilitation Thesis (Dr. Sci. dissertation) submitted at the beginning of September 2004. It is written in Russian and is posted due to the continuing requests for the manuscript. The content: 1. Introduction, 2. Nonlinear chains with the discrete time and their self-similar solutions, 3. General theory of theta hypergeometric series, 4. Theta hypergeometric integrals, 5. Biorthogonal functions, 6. Elliptic hypergeometric functions with |q|=1, 7. Conclusion, 8. References. It contains an outline of a general heuristic scheme for building univariate special functions through self-similar reductions of spectral transformation chains, which allowed construction of the differential-difference q-Painleve equations, as well as of the most general known set of elliptic biorthogonal functions comprising all classical orthogonal polynomials and biorthogonal rational functions. One of the key results of the thesis consists in the discovery of genuinely transcendental elliptic hypergeometric functions determined by the elliptic hypergeometric integrals. The whole theory of such integrals can be built from the univariate elliptic beta integral -- the most complicated known definite integral with exact evaluation, which generalizes the ordinary binomial theorem and its q-extension, Euler's beta integral, the measure for Askey-Wilson polynomials, and many other previously established results on ordinary and q-hypergeometric functions.
We consider finite-dimensional reductions of an integral operator with the elliptic hypergeometric kernel describing the most general known solution of the Yang-Baxter equation with a rank 1 symmetry algebra. The reduced R-operators reproduce at their bottom the standard Baxter's R-matrix for the 8-vertex model and Sklyanin's L-operator. The general formula has a remarkably compact form and yields new elliptic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation based on the finite-dimensional representations of the elliptic modular double. The same result is also derived using the fusion formalism.
