Essays on the theory of elliptic hypergeometric functions

We give a brief review of the main results of the theory of elliptic hypergeometric functions -- a new class of special functions of mathematical physics. We prove the most general univariate exact integration formula generalizing Euler's beta integral, which is called the elliptic beta integral. An elliptic analogue of the Gauss hypergeometric function is constructed together with the elliptic hypergeometric equation for it. Biorthogonality relations for this function and its particular subcases are described. We list known elliptic beta integrals on root systems and consider symmetry transformations for the corresponding elliptic hypergeometric functions of the higher order.

Classical elliptic hypergeometric functions and their applications

General theory of elliptic hypergeometric series and integrals is outlined. Main attention is paid to the examples obeying properties of the "classical" special functions. In particular, an elliptic analogue of the Gauss hypergeometric function and some of its properties are described. Present review is based on author's habilitation thesis [Spi7] containing a more detailed account of the subject.

Short proofs of the elliptic beta integrals

We give elementary proofs of the univariate elliptic beta integral with bases $|q|, |p|<1$ and its multiparameter generalizations to integrals on the $A_n$ and $C_n$ root systems. We prove also some new unit circle multiple elliptic beta integrals, which are well defined for $|q|=1$, and their $p\to 0$ degenerations.

A Bailey tree for integrals

The notion of integral Bailey pairs is introduced. Using the single variable elliptic beta integral, we construct an infinite binary tree of identities for elliptic hypergeometric integrals. Two particular sequences of identities are explicitly described.

Theta hypergeometric integrals

We define a general class of (multiple) integrals of hypergeometric type associated with the Jacobi theta functions. These integrals are related to theta hypergeometric series through the residue calculus. In the one variable case, we get theta function extensions of the Meijer function. A number of multiple generalizations of the elliptic beta integral [S2] associated with the root systems $A_n$ and $C_n$ is described. Some of the $C_n$-examples were proposed earlier by van Diejen and the author, but other integrals are new. An example of the biorthogonality relations associated with the elliptic beta integrals is considered in detail.

Theta hypergeometric series

We formulate general principles of building hypergeometric type series from the Jacobi theta functions that generalize the plain and basic hypergeometric series. Single and multivariable elliptic hypergeometric series are considered in detail. A characterization theorem for a single variable totally elliptic hypergeometric series is proved.

The factorization method, self-similar potentials and quantum algebras

This is a brief review of the Schrodinger's factorization method and its relations to supersymmetric quantum mechanics and its nonlinear (parastatistical, etc) modifications, self-similar infinite soliton potentials, quantum algebras, coherent states, Ising chains, discretized random matrices and 2D lattice Coulomb gases.

Higher-Derivative Supersymmetry and the Witten Index

Higher-derivative generalization of the supersymmetric quantum mechanics is proposed. It is formally based on the standard superalgebra but supercharges involve differential operators of the order $n$. As a result, their anticommutator entails polynomial of a Hamiltonian. The Witten index does not characterize spontaneous supersymmetry breaking in such models.
