Recursion operators and the hierarchies of MKdV equations related to $D_4^{(1)}$, $D_4^{(2)}$ and $D_4^{(3)}$ Kac-Moody algebras

We constructed the three nonequivalent gradings in the algebra $D_4 \simeq so(8)$. The first one is the standard one obtained with the Coxeter automorphism $C_1=S_{α_2} S_{α_1}S_{α_3}S_{α_4}$ using its dihedral realization. In the second one we use $C_2 = C_1R$ where $R$ is the mirror automorphism. The third one is $C_3 = S_{α_2}S_{α_1}T$ where $T$ is the external automorphism of order 3. For each of these gradings we constructed the basis in the corresponding linear subspaces $\mathfrak{g}^{(k)}$, the orbits of the Coxeter automorphisms and the related Lax pairs generating the corresponding mKdV hierarchies. We found compact expressions for each of the hierarchies in terms of the recursion operators. At the end we wrote explicitly the first nontrivial mKdV equations and their Hamiltonians. For $D_4^{(1)}$ these are in fact two mKdV systems, due to the fact that in this case the exponent $3$ has multiplicity 2. Each of these mKdV systems consist of 4 equations of third order with respect to $\partial_x$. For $D_4^{(2)}$ this is a system of three equations of third order with respect to $\partial_x$. Finally, for $D_4^{(3)}$ this is a system of two equations of fifth order with respect to $\partial_x$.

Manakov model with gain/loss terms and $N$-soliton interactions: Effects of periodic potentials

We analyze the dynamical behavior of the N-soliton train in the adiabatic approximation of the perturbed nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation and the Manakov model. The perturbations include the simultaneous by a periodic external potential, and linear and nonlinear gain/loss terms. We derive the corresponding perturbed complex Toda chain (PCTC) models for both NLS and Manakov model. We show that the soliton interactions dynamics for the PCTC models compares favorably to full numerical results of the original perturbed NLS and Manakov model.

Adiabatic Interactions of Manakov Solitons -- Effects of Cross-modulation

We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the Manakov soliton trains perturbed by cross-modulation in the adiabatic approximation. The multisoliton interactions in the adiabatic approximation are modeled by a generalized Complex Toda chain (GCTC). The cross-modulation requires special treating for the evolution of the polarization vectors of the solitons. The numerical predictions of the Manakov system are compared with the perturbed GCTC. For certain set of initial parameters GCTC describes very well the long-time evolution of the Manakov soliton trains.

Complete integrability of Nonlocal Nonlinear Schrödinger equation

Based on the completeness relation for the squared solutions of the Lax operator $L$ we show that a subset of nonlocal equations from the hierarchy of nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations (NLS) is a completely integrable system. The spectral properties of the Lax operator indicate that there are two types of soliton solutions. The relevant action-angle variables are parametrized by the scattering data of the Lax operator. The notion of the symplectic basis, which directly maps the variations of the potential of $L$ to the variations of the action-angle variables has been generalized to the nonlocal case. We also show that the inverse scattering method can be viewed as a generalized Fourier transform. Using the trace identities and the symplectic basis we construct the hierarchy Hamiltonian structures for the nonlocal NLS equations.

Asymptotic Behavior of Manakov Solitons: Effects of Potential Wells and Humps

We consider the asymptotic behavior of the soliton solutions of Manakov's system perturbed by external potentials. It has already been established that its multisoliton interactions in the adiabatic approximation can be modeled by the Complex Toda chain (CTC). The fact that the CTC is a completely integrable system, enables us to determine the asymptotic behavior of the multisoliton trains. In the present study we accent on the 3-soliton initial configurations perturbed by sech-like external potentials and compare the numerical predictions of the Manakov system and the perturbed CTC in different regimes. The results of conducted analysis show that the perturbed CTC can reliably predict the long-time evolution of the Manakov system.

Z_2-reductions of spinor models in two dimensions

We propose new types of integrable spinor models, generalizing the well known ones of: i) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio-Vaks-Larkin models, related to SU(N); ii) the Gross-Neveu models - SP(2N); and the iii) Zakharov-Mikhailov models - SO(N). We propose a method for constructing their Lax representation and outline the spectral properties of the Lax operators.

Bose-Einstein condensates with F=1 and F=2. Reductions and soliton interactions of multi-component NLS models

We analyze a class of multicomponent nonlinear Schrodinger equations (MNLS) related to the symmetric BD.I-type symmetric spaces and their reductions. We briefly outline the direct and the inverse scattering method for the relevant Lax operators and the soliton solutions. We use the Zakharov-Shabat dressing method to obtain the two-soliton solution and analyze the soliton interactions of the MNLS equations and some of their reductions.

Exact solutions for a class of integrable Henon-Heiles-type systems

We study the exact solutions of a class of integrable Henon-Heiles-type systems (according to the analysis of Bountis et al. (1982)). These solutions are expressed in terms of two-dimensional Kleinian functions. Special periodic solutions are expressed in terms of the well-known Weierstrass function. We extend some of our results to a generalized Henon-Heiles-type system with n+1 degrees of freedom.

Solutions of multi-component NLS models and spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

A three- and five-component nonlinear Schrodinger-type models, which describe spinor Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC's) with hyperfine structures F=1 and F=2 respectively, are studied. These models for particular values of the coupling constants are integrable by the inverse scattering method. They are related to symmetric spaces of BD.I-type SO(2r+1)/(SO(2) x SO(2r-1)) for r=2 and r=3. Using conveniently modified Zakharov-Shabat dressing procedure we obtain different types of soliton solutions.

Fordy-Kulish models and spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

A three-component nonlinear Schrodinger-type model which describes spinor Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is considered. This model is integrable by the inverse scattering method and using Zakharov-Shabat dressing method we obtain three types of soliton solutions. The multi-component nonlinear Schrodinger type models related to symmetric spaces C.I Sp(4)/U(2) is studied.

How many types of soliton solutions do we know?

We consider several ways of how one could classify the various types of soliton solutions related to nonlinear evolution equations which are solvable by the inverse scattering method. In doing so we make use of the fundamental analytic solutions, the dressing procedure, the reduction technique and other tools characteristic for that method.

The Manakov system as two moving interacting curves

The two time-dependent Schrodinger equations in a potential V(s,u), $u$ denoting time, can be interpreted geometrically as a moving interacting curves whose Fermi-Walker phase density is given by -dV/ds. The Manakov model appears as two moving interacting curves using extended da Rios system and two Hasimoto transformations.

Superintegrability in the Manev Problem and its Real Form Dynamics

We report here the existence of Ermanno-Bernoulli type invariants for the Manev model dynamics which may be viewed upon as remnants of Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector whose conservation is characteristic of the Kepler model. If the orbits are bounded these invariants exist only when a certain rationality condition is met and thus we have superintegrability only on a subset of initial values. We analyze real form dynamics of the Manev model and derive that it is always superintegrable. We also discuss the symmetry algebras of the Manev model and its real Hamiltonian form.

Selected Aspects of Soliton Theory. Constant boundary conditions

Brief review of the methods for solving the multicomponent nonlinear Schrodinger (MNLS) equations and analysis of their Hamiltonian structures is given. Main attention is paid to the MNLS related to the C.II- and D.III-types symmetric spaces with nonvanishing (constant) boundary conditions. The spectral properties of their Lax operators are described. The derivation of the trace identities is outlined. The involutivity of their integrals of motion is proved using the method of the classical R-matrix.

New Integrable Multi-Component NLS Type Equations on Symmetric Spaces: Z_4 and Z_6 Reductions

The reductions of the multi-component nonlinear Schrodinger (MNLS) type models related to C.I and D.III type symmetric spaces are studied. We pay special attention to the MNLS related to the sp(4), so(10) and so(12) Lie algebras. The MNLS related to sp(4) is a three-component MNLS which finds applications to Bose-Einstein condensates. The MNLS related to so(12) and so(10) Lie algebras after convenient Z_6 or Z_4 reductions reduce to three and four-component MNLS showing new types of chi ^(3)-interactions that are integrable. We briefly explain how these new types of MNLS can be integrated by the inverse scattering method. The spectral properties of the Lax operators L and the corresponding recursion operator Lambda are outlined. Applications to spinor model of Bose-Einstein condensates are discussed.

Adiabatic N-soliton interactions of Bose-Einstein condensates in external potentials

Perturbed version of the complex Toda chain (CTC) has been employed to describe adiabatic interactions within N-soliton train of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS). Perturbations induced by weak quadratic and periodic external potentials are studied by both analytical and numerical means. It is found that the perturbed CTC adequately models the N-soliton train dynamics for both types of potentials. As an application of the developed theory we consider the dynamics of a train of matter - wave solitons confined to a parabolic trap and optical lattice, as well as tilted periodic potentials. In the last case we demonstrate that there exist critical values of the strength of the linear potential for which one or more localized states can be extracted from a soliton train. An analytical expression for these critical strengths for expulsion is also derived.

On modelling adiabatic N - soliton interactions in external potentials

We analyze perturbed version of the complex Toda chain (CTC) in an attempt to describe the adiabatic N - soliton train interactions of the perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS). We study perturbations with weak quadratic and periodic external potentials by both analytical and numerical means. The perturbed CTC adequately models the N - soliton train dynamics for both types of potentials. As an application of the developed theory we consider the dynamics of a train of matter - wave solitons confined in a parabolic trap and optical lattice, as well as tilted periodic potential.
