Form factor approach to the asymptotic behavior of correlation functions in critical models

We propose a form factor approach for the computation of the large distance asymptotic behavior of correlation functions in quantum critical (integrable) models. In the large distance regime we reduce the summation over all excited states to one over the particle/hole excitations lying on the Fermi surface in the thermodynamic limit. We compute these sums, over the so-called critical form factors, exactly. Thus we obtain the leading large distance behavior of each oscillating harmonic of the correlation function asymptotic expansion, including the corresponding amplitudes. Our method is applicable to a wide variety of integrable models and yields precisely the results stemming from the Luttinger liquid approach, the conformal field theory predictions and our previous analysis of the correlation functions from their multiple integral representations. We argue that our scheme applies to a general class of non-integrable quantum critical models as well.

Thermodynamic limit of particle-hole form factors in the massless XXZ Heisenberg chain

We study the thermodynamic limit of the particle-hole form factors of the XXZ Heisenberg chain in the massless regime. We show that, in this limit, such form factors decrease as an explicitly computed power-law in the system-size. Moreover, the corresponding amplitudes can be obtained as a product of a "smooth" and a "discrete" part: the former depends continuously on the rapidities of the particles and holes, whereas the latter has an additional explicit dependence on the set of integer numbers that label each excited state in the associated logarithmic Bethe equations. We also show that special form factors corresponding to zero-energy excitations lying on the Fermi surface decrease as a power-law in the system size with the same critical exponents as in the long-distance asymptotic behavior of the related two-point correlation functions. The methods we develop in this article are rather general and can be applied to other massless integrable models associated to the six-vertex R-matrix and having determinant representations for their form factors.

Long-time and large-distance asymptotic behavior of the current-current correlators in the non-linear Schrödinger model

We present a new method allowing us to derive the long-time and large-distance asymptotic behavior of the correlations functions of quantum integrable models from their exact representations. Starting from the form factor expansion of the correlation functions in finite volume, we explain how to reduce the complexity of the computation in the so-called interacting integrable models to the one appearing in free fermion equivalent models. We apply our method to the time-dependent zero-temperature current-current correlation function in the non-linear Schrödinger model and compute the first few terms in its asymptotic expansion. Our result goes beyond the conformal field theory based predictions: in the time-dependent case, other types of excitations than the ones on the Fermi surface contribute to the leading orders of the asymptotics.

On the thermodynamic limit of form factors in the massless XXZ Heisenberg chain

We consider the problem of computing form factors of the massless XXZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain in a magnetic field in the (thermodynamic) limit where the size M of the chain becomes large. For that purpose, we take the particular example of the matrix element of the third component of spin between the ground state and an excited state with one particle and one hole located at the opposite ends of the Fermi interval (umklapp-type term). We exhibit its power-law decrease in terms of the size of the chain M, and compute the corresponding exponent and amplitude. As a consequence, we show that this form factor is directly related to the amplitude of the leading oscillating term in the long-distance asymptotic expansion of the two-point correlation function of the third component of spin.

Algebraic Bethe ansatz approach to the asymptotic behavior of correlation functions

We describe a method to derive, from first principles, the long-distance asymptotic behavior of correlation functions of integrable models in the framework of the algebraic Bethe ansatz. We apply this approach to the longitudinal spin- spin correlation function of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain (with magnetic field) in the disordered regime as well as to the density-density correlation func- tion of the interacting one-dimensional Bose gas. At leading order, the results confirm the Luttinger liquid and conformal field theory predictions.

Correlation functions of the open XXZ chain II

We derive compact multiple integral formulas for several physical spin correlation functions in the semi-infinite XXZ chain with a longitudinal boundary magnetic field. Our formulas follow from several effective re-summations of the multiple integral representation for the elementary blocks obtained in our previous article (I). In the free fermion point we compute the local magnetization as well as the density of energy profiles. These quantities, in addition to their bulk behavior, exhibit Friedel type oscillations induced by the boundary; their amplitudes depend on the boundary magnetic field and decay algebraically in terms of the distance to the boundary.

Correlation functions of the open XXZ chain I

We consider the XXZ spin chain with diagonal boundary conditions in the framework of algebraic Bethe Ansatz. Using the explicit computation of the scalar products of Bethe states and a revisited version of the bulk inverse problem, we calculate the elementary building blocks for the correlation functions. In the limit of half-infinite chain, they are obtained as multiple integrals of usual functions, similar to the case of periodic boundary conditions.

On correlation functions of integrable models associated to the six-vertex R-matrix

We derive an analog of the master equation obtained recently for correlation functions of the XXZ chain for a wide class of quantum integrable systems described by the R-matrix of the six-vertex model, including in particular continuum models. This generalized master equation allows us to obtain multiple integral representations for the correlation functions of these models. We apply this method to derive the density-density correlation functions of the quantum non-linear Schrodinger model.

Quantum Dynamical coBoundary Equation for finite dimensional simple Lie algebras

For a finite dimensional simple Lie algebra g, the standard universal solution R(x) in $U_q(g)^{\otimes 2}$ of the Quantum Dynamical Yang--Baxter Equation can be built from the standard R--matrix and from the solution F(x) in $U_q(g)^{\otimes 2}$ of the Quantum Dynamical coCycle Equation as $R(x)=F^{-1}_{21}(x) R F_{12}(x).$ It has been conjectured that, in the case where g=sl(n+1) n greater than 1 only, there could exist an element M(x) in $U_q(sl(n+1))$ such that $F(x)=Δ(M(x)){J} M_2(x)^{-1}(M_1(xq^{h_2}))^{-1},$ in which $J\in U_q(sl(n+1))^{\otimes 2}$ is the universal cocycle associated to the Cremmer--Gervais's solution. The aim of this article is to prove this conjecture and to study the properties of the solutions of the Quantum Dynamical coBoundary Equation. In particular, by introducing new basic algebraic objects which are the building blocks of the Gauss decomposition of M(x), we construct M(x) in $U_q(sl(n+1))$ as an explicit infinite product which converges in every finite dimensional representation. We emphasize the relations between these basic objects and some Non Standard Loop algebras and exhibit relations with the dynamical quantum Weyl group.

Exact results for the sigma^z two-point function of the XXZ chain at Delta=1/2

We propose a new multiple integral representation for the correlation function of the XXZ spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain in the disordered regime. We show that for Delta=1/2 the integrals can be separated and computed exactly. As an example we give the explicit results up to the lattice distance m=8. It turns out that the answer is given as integer numbers divided by 2^[(m+1)^2].

On the algebraic Bethe Ansatz approach to the correlation functions of the XXZ spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain

We present a review of the method we have elaborated to compute the correlation functions of the XXZ spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain. This method is based on the resolution of the quantum inverse scattering problem in the algebraic Bethe Ansatz framework, and leads to a multiple integral representation of the dynamical correlation functions. We describe in particular some recent advances concerning the two-point functions: in the finite chain, they can be expressed in terms of a single multiple integral. Such a formula provides a direct analytic connection between the previously obtained multiple integral representations and the form factor expansions for the correlation functions.

Master equation for spin-spin correlation functions of the XXZ chain

We derive a new representation for spin-spin correlation functions of the finite XXZ spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain in terms of a single multiple integral, that we call the master equation. Evaluation of this master equation gives rise on the one hand to the previously obtained multiple integral formulas for the spin-spin correlation functions and on the other hand to their expansion in terms of the form factors of the local spin operators. Hence, it provides a direct analytic link between these two representations of the correlation functions and a complete re-summation of the corresponding series. The master equation method also allows one to obtain multiple integral representations for dynamical correlation functions.

Spin-spin correlation functions of the XXZ-1/2 Heisenberg chain in a magnetic field

Using algebraic Bethe ansatz and the solution of the quantum inverse scattering problem, we compute compact representations of the spin-spin correlation functions of the XXZ-1/2 Heisenberg chain in a magnetic field. At lattice distance m, they are typically given as the sum of m terms. Each term n of this sum, n = 1,...,m is represented in the thermodynamic limit as a multiple integral of order 2n+1; the integrand depends on the distance as the power m of some simple function. The root of these results is the derivation of a compact formula for the multiple action on a general quantum state of the chain of transfer matrix operators for arbitrary values of their spectral parameters.
