Dependence of the recoherence times and recoherence increments on the state of phonon bath in a single qubit dephasing model

The recoherence times $t^*$ and the maximum values of the recoherence increments $γ_{\rm extr}$ are studied as functions of the bath parameters for a single qubit dephasing model, prepared initially by a special kind of the non-selective measurements. The recoherence/decoherence events (RDE), occurring at the initial stage of the system evolution, are found to be both similar and different from the system dynamics at large times. For instance, in contrast to the RDE observed on large time scales, the sub-Ohmic and Ohmic coupling regimes are more favourable for the short-time recoherence than the super-Ohmic one. On the other hand, the short-time behaviour of the recoherence and the long-time dynamics of the decoherence are closely related: the domain of the ohmicity indexes, where the decoherence changes its type (from the complete to incomplete one), is, simultaneously, that of the weakest recoherence. The obtained results give us some hints about the basic characteristics of the environment, which might provide the most optimal values of $t^*$ and $γ_{\rm extr}$ in some sense.

Ising model in the Rényi statistics: the finite size effects

The Rényi statistics is applied for a description of finite size effects in the 1D Ising model. We calculate the internal energy of the spin chain and the system temperature using the Rényi distribution and postulate them to be equal to their counterparts, obtained in the microcanonical ensemble. It allows us to self-consistently derive the Rényi $q$-index and the Lagrange parameter $T$ to relate them to the physically observed system temperature $T_{\rm ph}$, and to show that the entropic phase transitions are possible in a broad temperature domain. We have also studied the temperature dependence of the internal energy $U(T_{\rm ph})$ at constant $q$ and an influence of the size related effects on the system thermodynamics.

Decoherence in open quantum systems: influence of the intrinsic bath dynamics

The non-Markovian master equation for open quantum systems is obtained by generalization of the standard Zwanzig-Nakajima (ZN) projection technique. To this end, a coupled chain of equations for the reduced density matrices of the bath $\varrho_{B}(t)$ and of the system $\varrho_{S}(t)$ are written. Formal solution of the equation for $\varrho_{B}(t)$ in the 2-nd approximation in interaction yields a specific extra term, related to the intrinsic bath dynamics. This term is nonlinear in the reduced density matrix $\varrho_{S}(t)$, and vanishes in the Markovian limit. To verify the consistence and robustness of our approach, we apply the generalized ZN projection scheme to a simple dephasing model. We study the obtained kinetic equation both in the Markovian approximation and beyond it (for the term related to the intrinsic bath dynamics) and compare the results with the exact ones.

Master equation for open quantum systems: Zwanzig-Nakajima projection technique and the intrinsic bath dynamics

The non-Markovian master equation for open quantum systems is obtained by generalization of the ordinary Zwanzig-Nakajima (ZN) projection technique. To this end, a coupled chain of equations for the reduced density matrices of the bath $\varrho_{B}(t)$ and the system $\varrho_{S}(t)$ are written down. A formal solution of the equation for $\varrho_{B}(t)$, having been inserted in the equation for the reduced density matrix of the system, in the 2-nd approximation in interaction yields a very specific extra term in the generalized master equation. This term, being nonlinear in $\varrho_{S}(t)$, is related to the intrinsic bath dynamics and vanishes in the Markovian limit. To verify the consistence and robustness of our approach, we applied the generalized ZN projection scheme to a simple dephasing model. It is shown that consideration of the lowest order in interaction is insufficient to describe time evolution of the system coherence adequately. We explain this fact by analyzing the exact and approximate forms of $\varrho_{B}(t)$ and give some hints how to take the dynamic correlations (which originate from the spin-bath coupling) into account.

A simple closure procedure for the study of velocity autocorrelation functions in fluids as a "bridge" between different theoretical approaches

Velocity autocorrelation functions (VAF) of the fluids are studied on short- and long-time scales within a unified approach. This approach is based on an effective summation of the infinite continued fraction at a reasonable assumption about convergence of relaxation times of the high order memory functions, which have purely kinetic origin. The VAFs obtained within our method are compared with computer simulation data for the liquid Ne at different densities and the results, which follow from the Markovian approximation for the highest order kinetic kernels. It is shown that in all the thermodynamic points and at the chosen level of the hierarchy, our results agree much better with the MD data than those of the Markovian approximation. The density dependence of the transition time, needed for the fluid to attain the hydrodynamic stage of evolution, is evaluated. The common and distinctive features of our method are discussed in their relations to the generalized collective mode (GCM) theory, the mode coupling theory (MCT), and some other theoretical approaches.

A simple ansatz for the study of velocity autocorrelation functions in fluids at different timescales

A simple ansatz for the study of velocity autocorrelation functions in fluids at different timescales is proposed. The ansatz is based on an effective summation of the infinite continued fraction at a reasonable assumption about convergence of relaxation times of the higher order memory functions, which have a purely kinetic origin. The VAFs obtained within our approach are compared with the results of the Markovian approximation for memory kernels. It is shown that although in the "overdamped" regime both approaches agree to a large extent at the initial and intermediate times of the system evolution, our formalism yields power law relaxation of the VAFs which is not observed at the description with a finite number of the collective modes. Explicit expressions for the transition times from kinetic to hydrodynamic regimes are obtained from the analysis of the singularities of spectral functions in the complex frequency plane.

Peculiarities of qubit initial-state preparation by nonselective measurements on an overcomplete basis

We consider the qubit initial state preparation due to the nonselective measurements on an overcomplete basis, when the number of outcomes $N=3$. To be specific, we have chosen the dephasing model and applied the conditions for a post-measurement state to ensure a gradual coherence enhancement at the initial stage of the system evolution. It is shown that contrary to the von Neumann-Lüders projection scheme with $N=2$, the most mixed post-measurement state of the qubit in the general case can depend on the bath temperature. This remarkable feature allows one to consider a ``temperature controlled'' initial purification of the open quantum system. We also consider some kinds of the repeated nonselective measurements from the viewpoint of an eventual system purification and analyze the important peculiarities of such schemes.

Enhancement of coherence in qubits due to interaction with environment

The influence of the initial preparation on dephasing in open quantum dynamics is studied using an exactly solvable model of a two-level system (qubit) interacting with a bosonic bath. It is found that for some classes of non-selective preparation measurements, qubit-bath correlations lead to a significant enhancement of coherence in the qubit at the initial stage of evolution. The time behavior of the qubit purity and entropy in the regime of enhancement of coherence is considered for different temperatures and coupling strengths.

Bath dynamics in an exactly solvable qubit model with initial qubit-environment correlations

We study the bath dynamics in the dephasing model of a two-state quantum system (qubit) coupled to an environment of harmonic oscillators. This model was shown [Morozov et al., Phys. Rev. A, 2012, 85, 022101] to admit the analytic solution for the qubit and environment dynamics. Using this solution, we derive the exact expression for the bath reduced density matrix in the presence of initial qubit-environment correlations. We obtain the non-equilibrium phonon distribution function and discuss in detail the time behavior of the bath energy. It is shown that only the inclusion of dynamic correlations between the qubit and the bath ensures the proper time behavior of the quantity which may be interpreted as the "environment energy".

A temperature behavior of the frustrated translational mode of adsorbate and the nature of the "adsorbate-substrate" interaction

A temperature behavior of the frustrated translational mode (T-mode) of a light particle, coupled by different regimes of ohmicity to the surface, is studied within a formalism of the generalized diffusion coefficients. The memory effects of the adsorbate motion are considered to be the main reason of the T-mode origin. Numerical calculations yield a thermally induced shift and broadening of the T-mode, which is found to be linear in temperature for Ohmic and super-Ohmic systems and nonlinear for strongly sub-Ohmic ones. We obtain analytical expressions for the T-mode shift and width at weak coupling for the systems with integer "ohmicity" indexes n=0-2 in zero temperature and high temperature limits. We provide an explanation of the experimentally observed blue- or red-shifts of the T-mode on the basis of a comparative analysis of two typical times of the system evolution: a time of decay of the "velocity-velocity" autocorrelation function, and a correlation time of the thermal bath random forces. A relation of the T-mode to the multiple jumps of the adsorbate is discussed, and generalization of conditions of the multiple hopping to the case of quantum surface diffusion is performed.

Coherence, decoherence, and memory effects in the problems of quantum surface diffusion

We consider surface diffusion of a single particle, which performs site-to-site under-barrier hopping, fulfils intrasite motion between the ground and the first excited states within a quantum well, and interacts with surface phonons. On the basis of quantum kinetic equations for one-particle distribution functions obtained earlier we study the coherent and incoherent motion of the adparticle. In the latter case we derive the generalized diffusion coefficients and study various dynamic regimes of the adparticle. The critical values of the coupling constant $G_{cr}(T,Ω)$, which separate domains with possible recrossing from those with the monotonic motion of the adparticle, are calculated as functions of a temperature $T$ and a vibrational frequency $Ω$. These domains are found to coincide with the regions where the experimentally observed diffusion coefficients change its behavior from weakly dependent on $T$ to quite a sensitive function of the temperature. We also evaluate the off-diagonal (relative to the site labels) distribution functions both in the Markovian limit and when the memory effects become important. The obtained results are discussed in the context of the "long tails" problem of the generalized diffusion coefficients, the recrossing/multiple crossing phenomena, and an eventual interrelation between the adparticle dynamics at short times and the temperature dependence of the diffusion coefficients measured experimentally.
