Self-oscillating open quantum systems

Evolution of occupation number is studied for a bosonic oscillator (with one and two degrees of freedom) linearly fully coupled to fermionic and bosonic heat baths. The lack of equilibrium in this oscillator is discussed in the light of the creation of an energy source. The connection of such a system with known nonlinear self-oscillating systems is shown.

Application of Regge-theory to astronomical objects

Using the model based on the Regge-like laws, new analytical formulas are obtained for the moment of inertia, the rotation frequency, and the radius of astronomical non-exotic objects (planets, stars, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies). The rotation frequency and moment of inertia of neutron star and the observable Universe are estimated. The estimates of the average numbers of stars and galaxies in the observable Universe are given. The Darwin instability effect in the binary systems (di-planets, di-stars, and di-galaxies) is also analyzed.

New type of self-oscillating systems

The time evolution of occupation number is studied for a bosonic oscillator (with one and two degrees of freedom) linearly fully coupled to fermionic and bosonic heat baths. The absence of equilibrium in this oscillator is discussed as a tool to create a dynamical non-stationary memory storage. The connection between such a system and the well-known nonlinear self-oscillating systems is demonstrated.

Applicability of the absence of equilibrium in quantum system fully coupled to several fermionic and bosonic heat baths

The time evolution of occupation number is studied for fermionic or bosonic oscillator linearly fully coupled to several fermionic and bosonic heat baths. The influence of characteristics of thermal reservoirs of different statistics on the non-stationary population probability is analyzed at large times. Applications of the absence of equilibrium in such systems for creating a dynamic (nonstationary) memory storage are discussed.

On the evolution of compact binary black holes

Based on the consideration of potential energy of the di-black-hole as a function of mass asymmetry (transfer) collective coordinate, the possibility of matter transfer between the black holes in a binary system is investigated. The sensitivity of the calculated results is studied to the value of the total mass of binary system. The conditions for the merger of two black holes are analyzed in the context of gravitational wave emission.

Non-Markovian modeling of Fermi-Bose systems coupled to one or several Fermi-Bose thermal baths

A method is proposed to describe Fermi or Bose systems coupled to one or several heat baths composed of fermions and/or bosons. The method, called Coupled Equations of Motion method, properly includes non-Markovian effects. The approach is exact in the Full-Coupling approximation when only bosonic particles are present in the system and baths. The approach provides an approximate treatment when fermions are present either in the system and/or in one or several environments. The new approach has the advantage to properly respect the Pauli exclusion principle for fermions during the evolution. We illustrate the approach for the single Fermi or Bose two-level system coupled to one or two heat-baths assuming different types of quantum statistics (Fermion or Bosons) for them. The cases of Fermi system coupled to fermion or boson heat baths or a mixture of both are analyzed in details. With the future goal to treat Fermi systems formed of increasing number of two-level systems (Qubits), we discuss possible simplifications that could be made in the equations of motion and their limits of validity in terms of the system--baths coupling or of the initial heat baths temperatures.

Extended quantum diffusion approach to reactions of astrophysical interests

The quantum diffusion approach is extended to low energy fusion (capture) reactions of light- and medium-mass nuclei. The dependence of the friction parameter on bombarding energy is taken into account. A simple analytic expression is obtained for the capture probability at extreme sub-barrier energies. The calculated cross-sections are in a good agreement with the experimental data. The fusion excitation functions calculated within the quantum diffusion and WKB approaches are compared and presented in the astrophysical $S$-factor representation.

On the Darwin instability effect in binary systems

The Darwin instability effect in the binary systems (planets, stars, and galaxies) is analyzed within the model based on the Regge-like laws. New analytical formulas are presented for the relative distance between components of the binary and orbital rotation period of the binary.

Origin of the orbital period change in contact binary stars

The evolution of contact binary star systems in mass asymmetry (transfer) coordinate is considered. The orbital period changes is explained by an evolution in mass asymmetry towards the symmetry (symmetrization of binary system). It is predicted that a decreasing and an increasing orbital periods are related, respectively, with the non-overlapping and overlapping stage of the binary star during its symmetrization. A huge amount of energy $ΔU\approx 10^{41}$ J is converted from the potential energy into internal energy of the stars during the symmetrization. As shown, the merger of stars in the binary systems, including KIC 9832227, is energetically an unfavorable process. The sensitivity of the calculated results to the values of total mass and orbital angular momentum is analyzed.

Close Binary Galaxies: Application to Source of Energy and Expansion in Universe

Applying the microscopic nuclear physics ideas for fusion reactions to macroscopic galactic systems, we study the evolution of the compact binary galaxy in mass asymmetry (transfer) coordinate. The conditions for the formation of stable symmetric binary galaxy are analyzed. The role of symmetrization of asymmetric binary galaxy in the transformation of gravitational energy into internal energy of galaxies accompanied by the release of a large amount of energy during the symmetrization process is revealed.

Why does neutron transfer play different roles in sub-barrier fusion reactions $^{32}$S+$^{94,96}$Zr and $^{40}$Ca+$^{94,96}$Zr?

The sub-barrier capture (fusion) reactions $^{32}$S+$^{90,94,96}$Zr, $^{36}$S+$^{90,96}$Zr, $^{40}$Ca+$^{90,94,96}$Zr, and $^{48}$Ca+$^{90,96}$Zr with positive and negative $Q$-values for neutron transfer are studied within the quantum diffusion approach and the universal fusion function representation. For these systems, the s-wave capture probabilities are extracted from the experimental excitation functions and are also analyzed. Different effects of the positive $Q_{xn}$-value neutron transfer in the fusion enhancement are revealed in the relatively close reactions $^{32}$S+$^{94,96}$Zr and $^{40}$Ca+$^{94,96}$Zr.

Exact description of non-Markovian effect in open quantum system: the discretized environment method

An approach, called discretized environment method, is introduced to treat exactly non-Markovian effects in open quantum systems. In this approach, a complex environment described by a spectral function is mapped into a finite set of discretized states with an appropriate coupling to the system of interest. The finite set of system plus environment degrees of freedom are then explicitly followed in time leading to a quasi-exact description. The present approach is anticipated to be particularly accurate in the low temperature and strongly non-Markovian regime. The discretized environment method is validated on a two-level system (qubit) coupled to a bosonic or fermionic heat bath. A perfect agreement with the quantum Langevin approach is found. Further illustrations are made on a three-level system (qutrit) coupled to a bosonic heat-bath. Emerging processes due to strong memory effects are discussed.

Non-Markovian dynamics with fermions

Employing the quadratic fermionic Hamiltonians for the collective and internal subsystems with a linear coupling, we studied the role of fermionic statistics on the dynamics of the collective motion. The transport coefficients are discussed as well as the associated fluctuation-dissipation relation. Due to different nature of the particles, the path to equilibrium is slightly affected. However, in the weak coupling regime, the time-scale for approaching equilibrium is found to be globally unchanged. The Pauli-blocking effect can modify the usual picture in open quantum system. In some limits, contrary to boson, this effect can strongly hinder the influence of the bath by blocking the interacting channels.

Disagreement between capture probabilities extracted from capture and quasi-elastic backscattering excitation functions

Experimental quasi-elastic backscattering and capture (fusion) excitation functions are usually used to extract the s-wave capture probabilities for the heavy-ion reactions. We investigated the $^{16}$O+$^{120}$Sn,$^{144}$Sm,$^{208}$Pb systems at energies near and below the corresponding Coulomb barriers and concluded that the probabilities extracted from quasi-elastic data are much larger than the ones extracted from fusion excitation functions at sub and deep-sub barrier energies. This seems to be a reasonable explanation for the known disagreement observed in literature for the nuclear potential diffuseness derived from both methods.

Neutron pair transfer in sub-barrier capture process

The sub-barrier capture reactions following the neutron pair transfer are proposed to be used for the indirect study of neutron-neutron correlation in the surface region of nucleus. The strong effect of the dineutron-like clusters transfer stemming from the surface of magic and non-magic nuclei $^{18}$O, $^{48}$Ca, $^{64}$Ni, $^{94,96}$Mo, $^{100,102,104}$Ru, $^{104,106,108}$Pd, and $^{112,114,116,118,120,124,132}$Sn is demonstrated. The dominance of two-neutron transfer channel at the vicinity of the Coulomb barrier is further supported by time-dependent mean-field approaches.

Derivation of capture and reaction cross sections from experimental quasi-elastic and elastic backscattering probabilities

The direct measurement of the reaction or capture (fusion) cross section is a difficult task since it would require the measurement of individual cross sections of many reaction channels, and most of them could be reached only by specific experiments. This would require different experimental set-ups not always available at the same laboratory and, consequently, such direct measurements would demand a large amount of beam time and would take probably some years to be reached. Because of that, the measurements of elastic scattering angular distributions that cover full angular ranges and optical model analysis have been used for the determination of reaction cross sections. This traditional method consists in deriving the parameters of the complex optical potentials which fit the experimental elastic scattering angular distributions and then of deriving the reaction cross sections predicted by these potentials. Even so, both the experimental part and the analysis of this latter method are not so simple. In the present work we present a much simpler methods to determine reaction and capture (fusion) cross sections. They consist of measuring only elastic or quasi-elastic scattering at one backward angle, and from that, the extraction of the reaction or capture cross sections can easily be performed.
