Unveiling the nature of the unidentified gamma-ray sources 4FGL J1908.6+0915e, HESS J1907+089/HOTS J1907+091, and 3HWC J1907+085 in the sky region of the magnetar SGR 1900+14

Supernova remnants (SNRs), star formation regions (SFRs), and pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe) are prime candidates for Galactic PeVatrons. The nonthermal high-energy (HE, $\varepsilon>100 \textrm{ MeV}$) and very high-energy (VHE, $\varepsilon>100 \textrm{ GeV}$) $γ$-ray emission from these sources should be a promising manifestation of acceleration processes. We investigate the possibility to explain the HE and VHE $γ$-ray emission from the sky region of the magnetar SGR 1900+14 as a signature of cosmic rays accelerated in above mentioned sources. To this end, we simulate the $γ$-ray emission from the extended Fermi-LAT HE source 4FGL J1908.6+0915e, the extended VHE H.E.S.S. source candidate HOTS J1907+091, and the point-like HAWC TeV source 3HWC J1907+085, which are spatially coincident with the SNR G42.8+0.6, the magnetar SGR 1900+14 and the star forming region W49A. The simulations are performed within the hadronic and leptonic models. We show that the observed $γ$-ray emission from the region of the magnetar SGR 1900+14 can, in principle, include contributions of different intensities from all three types of (potentially confused) sources. The considered in detail cases of a magnetar-connected but still undetected SNR and a PWN are the most promising ones, but with a serious requirement on the energy reserve of radiated CR particles - of order of $10^{51}d_{\textrm{10kpc}}^{2}$ erg for sources at a distance of $d\sim 10$ kpc. Such energy reserve can be provided by the magnetar-related Hypernova and/or magnetar wind nebula remnant created by the newborn millisecond magnetar with the large supply of rotational energy $E_{\textrm{rot}}\sim 10^{52}\textrm{ erg}$.

Equations and improved coefficients for paralleltransport in multicomponent collisional plasmas: method and application for tokamak modelling

New analytical expressions for parallel transport coefficients in multicomponent collisional plasmas are presented in this paper. They are improved versions of the expressions written in [V. M. Zhdanov. Transport Processes in Multicomponent Plasma, vol. 44. 10 2002.], based on Grad's 21N-moment method. Both explicit and approximate approaches for transport coefficients calculation are considered. Accurate application of this closure for the Braginskii transport equations is discussed. Viscosity dependence on the heat flux is taken into account. Improved expressions are implemented into the SOLPS-ITER code and tested for deuterium and neon ITER cases. Some typos found in [V. M. Zhdanov. Transport Processes in Multicomponent Plasma, vol. 44. 10 2002.] are corrected.

Probing Dark Matter and Fundamental Physics with the Cherenkov Telescope Array

Astrophysical observations provide strong evidence that more than 80% of all matter in the Universe is in the form of dark matter (DM). Two leading candidates of particles beyond the Standard Model that could constitute all or a fraction of the DM content are the so-called Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) and Axion-Like Particles (ALPs). The upcoming Cherenkov Telescope Array, which will observe gamma rays between 20 GeV and 300 TeV with unprecedented sensitivity, will have unique capabilities to search for these DM candidates. A particularly promising target for WIMP searches is the Galactic Center. WIMPs with annihilation cross sections correctly producing the DM relic density will be detectable with CTA, assuming an Einasto-like density profile and WIMP masses between 200 GeV and 10 TeV. Regarding new physics beyond DM, CTA observations will also enable tests of fundamental symmetries of nature such as Lorentz invariance.

Peculiar AGNs from the INTEGRAL and RXTE data

We analysed how the active galactic nucleus (AGN) X-ray primary continuum depends on AGN activity in radio, using the data of RXTE Spectral & Timing Database (Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer) and INTEGRAL (INTErnational Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory). Our aim is to test the relation between spectral shapes of these AGNs and the prediction of the "spin-paradigm" model of the AGN "central engine". We have found that for the major part of radio-quiet (RQ) AGNs the value of high-energy exponential cut-off in primary spectrum appears to be significantly higher than 100 keV and thus follows the "spin-paradigm" predictions. In the same time, near 25% of radio-loud (RL) AGNs demonstrate the high-energy cut-off at the energies above 150 keV, contradicting the "spin paradigm". We have composed a sample of "peculiar" 69 RQ and 10 RL AGNs that seem to contradict to the "spin paradigm" for further individual studies of these objects.

Anomalous Fluctuations in Observations of Q0957+561 A,B: Smoking Gun of a Cosmic String?

We report the detection of anomalous brightness fluctuations in the multiple image Q0957+561 A,B gravitational lens system, and consider whether such anomalies have a plausible interpretation within the framework of cosmic string theory. We study a simple model of gravitational lensing by an asymmetrical rotating string. An explicit form of the lens equation is obtained and approximate relations for magnification are derived. We show that such a model with typical parameters of the GUT string can quantitatively reproduce the observed pattern of brightness fluctuations. On the other hand, explanation involving a binary star system as an alternative cause requires an unacceptably large massive object at a small distance. We also discuss possible observational manifestations of cosmic strings within our lens model.
