Extended Rein-Sehgal model for tau lepton production

The polarization density matrix formalism is employed to include the final lepton mass and spin into the popular model by Rein and Sehgal for single pion neutrinoproduction. We investigate the effect of the $τ$ lepton mass on the differential cross sections. The lepton polarization evaluated within the extended RS model is compared against that follows from the single resonance production model based upon the Rarita-Schwinger formalism with phenomenological transition form factors.

Tau lepton polarization in quasielastic neutrino-nucleon scattering

We derive structure functions for the quasielastic production of octet baryons in neutrino and antineutrino interactions with nucleons and study the polarization of tau leptons produced in the $Δ{Y}=0$ reactions. Possible impact of the charged second-class currents is investigated by adopting a simple phenomenological parametrization for the nonstandard scalar and tensor nucleon form factors. Our choice of the unknown parameters is made to satisfy the limits obtained in the (anti)neutrino scattering experiments and rigid restrictions derived from the nuclear structure studies.

Atmospheric muons and neutrinos

This paper is a mini-review of the atmospheric muon and neutrino flux calculations based upon a recent version of CORT code and up-to-date data on primary cosmic rays and hadronic interactions. A comparison of calculations with a representative set of atmospheric muon data for momenta below 1 TeV/c is presented. The overall agreement between the calculated muon fluxes and the data provides an evidence in favor of the validity of adopted description of hadronic interactions and shower development. In particular, this supports the low-energy atmospheric neutrino fluxes predicted with CORT which are essentially lower than those used in current analyses of the sub-GeV and multi-GeV neutrino induced events in underground neutrino detectors.

High-energy neutrino oscillations in absorbing matter

The impact of neutrino mixing, refraction and absorption on high-energy neutrino propagation through a thick medium is studied using the MSW evolution equation with complex indices of refraction. It is found that, owing to the mixing with sterile neutrinos, the penetrability of active neutrinos may be many orders of magnitude larger than it would be in the absence of mixing. The effect is highly sensitive to changes in density and composition of the matter background as well as to neutrino energy and mixing parameters. This may lead to observational consequences in neutrino astrophysics.
