Eigenproblem for Jacobi matrices: hypergeometric series solution

We study the perturbative power-series expansions of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a general tridiagonal (Jacobi) matrix of dimension d. The(small) expansion parameters are being the entries of the two diagonals of length d-1 sandwiching the principal diagonal, which gives the unperturbed spectrum. The solution is found explicitly in terms of multivariable (Horn-type) hypergeometric series of 3d-5 variables in the generic case, or 2d-3 variables for the eigenvalue growing from a corner matrix element. To derive the result, we first rewrite the spectral problem for a Jacobi matrix as an equivalent system of cubic equations, which are then resolved by the application of the multivariable Lagrange inversion formula. The corresponding Jacobi determinant is calculated explicitly. Explicit formulae are also found for any monomial composed of eigenvector's components.

Nonequilibrium Cooper pairing in the nonadiabatic regime

We obtain a complete solution for the mean-field dynamics of the BCS paired state with a large, but finite number of Cooper pairs in the non-adiabatic regime. We show that the problem reduces to a classical integrable Hamiltonian system and derive a complete set of its integrals of motion. The condensate exhibits irregular multi-frequency oscillations ergodically exploring the part of the phase-space allowed by the conservation laws. In the thermodynamic limit however the system can asymptotically reach a steady state.

Factorization of symmetric polynomials

We construct linear operators factorizing the three bases of symmetric polynomials: monomial symmetric functions m(x), elementary symmetric polynomials E(x), and Schur functions s(x), into products of univariate polynomials.

Integrable dynamics of coupled Fermi-Bose condensates

We study the mean-field dynamics of a fermionic condensate interacting with a single bosonic mode (a generalized Dicke model). This problem is integrable and can be mapped onto a corresponding BCS problem. We derive the general solution and a full set of integrals of motion for the time evolution of coupled Fermi-Bose condensates. The present paper complements our earlier study of the dynamics of the BCS model (cond-mat/0407501 and cond-mat/0505493). Here we provide a self-contained introduction to the variable separation method, which enables a complete analytical description of the evolution of the generalized Dicke, BCS, and other similar models.

Solution for the dynamics of the BCS and central spin problems

We develop an explicit description of a time-dependent response of fermionic condensates to perturbations. The dynamics of Cooper pairs at times shorter than the energy relaxation time can be described by the BCS model. We obtain a general explicit solution for the dynamics of the BCS model. We also solve a closely related dynamical problem - the central spin model, which describes a localized spin coupled to a "spin bath". Here, we focus on presenting the solution and describing its general properties, but also mention some applications, e.g. to nonstationary pairing in cold Fermi gases and to the issue of electron spin decoherence in quantum dots. A typical dynamics of the BCS and central spin models is quasi-periodic with a large number of frequencies and stable under small perturbations. We show that for certain special initial conditions the number of frequencies decreases and the solution simplifies. In particular, periodic solutions correspond to the ground state and excitations of the BCS model.

Separation of variables and Bäcklund transformations for the symmetric Lagrange top

We construct the 1- and 2-point integrable maps (Bäcklund transformations) for the symmetric Lagrange top. We show that the Lagrange top has the same algebraic Poisson structure that belongs to the $sl(2)$ Gaudin magnet. The 2-point map leads to a real time-discretization of the continuous flow. Therefore, it provides an integrable numerical scheme for integrating the physical flow. We illustrate the construction by few pictures of the discrete flow calculated in MATLAB.

Q-operator and factorised separation chain for Jack polynomials

Applying Baxter's method of the Q-operator to the set of Sekiguchi's commuting partial differential operators we show that Jack polynomials P(x_1,...,x_n) are eigenfunctions of a one-parameter family of integral operators Q_z. The operators Q_z are expressed in terms of the Dirichlet-Liouville n-dimensional beta integral. From a composition of n operators Q_{z_k} we construct an integral operator S_n factorising Jack polynomials into products of hypergeometric polynomials of one variable. The operator S_n admits a factorisation described in terms of restricted Jack polynomials P(x_1,...,x_k,1,...,1). Using the operator Q_z for z=0 we give a simple derivation of a previously known integral representation for Jack polynomials.

Inverse problem for sl(2) lattices

We consider the inverse problem for periodic sl(2) lattices as a canonical transformation from the separation to local variables. A new concept of a factorized separation chain is introduced allowing to solve the inverse problem explicitly. The method is applied to an arbitrary representation of the corresponding Sklyanin algebra.

Rational solutions to the Pfaff lattice and Jack polynomials

The finite Pfaff lattice is given by commuting Lax pairs involving a finite matrix L (zero above the first subdiagonal) and a projection onto Sp(N). The lattice admits solutions such that the entries of the matrix L are rational in the time parameters t_1,t_2,..., after conjugation by a diagonal matrix. The sequence of polynomial tau-functions, solving the problem, belongs to an intriguing chain of subspaces of Schur polynomials, associated to Young diagrams, dual with respect to a finite chain of rectangles. Also, this sequence of tau-functions is given inductively by the action of a fixed vertex operator. As examples, one such sequence is given by Jack polynomials for rectangular Young diagrams, while another chain starts with any two-column Jack polynomial.

Kowalevski top revisited

We review the separation of variables for the Kowalevski top and for its generalization to the algebra o(4). We notice that the corresponding separation equations allow an interpretation of the Kowalevski top as a B2 integrable lattice. Consequently, we apply the quadratic r-matrix formalism to construct a new 2x2 Lax matrix for the top, which is responsible for its separation of variables.

Separation of variables and integral relations for special functions

We show that the method of separation of variables gives a natural generalisation of integral relations for classical special functions of one variable. The approach is illustrated by giving a new proof of the ``quadratic'' integral relations for the continuous q-ultraspherical polynomials. The separating integral operator M expressed in terms of the Askey-Wilson operator is studied in detail: apart from writing down the characteristic (``separation'') equations it satisfies, we find its spectrum, eigenfunctions, inversion, invariants (invariant q-difference operators), and give its interpretation as a fractional q-integration operator. We also give expansions of the A1 Macdonald polynomials into the eigenfunctions of the separating operator M and vice versa.

Separation of variables for the Dn type periodic Toda lattice

We prove separation of variables for the most general (Dn type) periodic Toda lattice with 2x2 Lax matrix. It is achieved by finding proper normalisation for the corresponding Baker-Akhiezer function. Separation of variables for all other periodic Toda lattices associated with infinite series of root systems follows by taking appropriate limits.

Separation of variables for A2 Ruijsenaars model and new integral representation for A2 Macdonald polynomials

Using the Baker-Akhiezer function technique we construct a separation of variables for the classical trigonometric 3-particle Ruijsenaars model (relativistic generalization of Calogero-Moser-Sutherland model). In the quantum case, an integral operator M is constructed from the Askey-Wilson contour integral. The operator M transforms the eigenfunctions of the commuting Hamiltonians (Macdonald polynomials for the root sytem A2) into the factorized form S(y1)S(y2) where S(y) is a Laurent polynomial of one variable expressed in terms of the 3phi2(y) basic hypergeometric series. The inversion of M produces a new integral representation for the A2 Macdonald polynomials. We also present some results and conjectures for general n-particle case.

Hidden symmetry of the quantum Calogero-Moser system

Hidden symmetry of the quantum Calogero-Moser system with the inverse-square potential is explicitly demonstrated in algebraic sense. We find the underlying algebra explaining the super-integrability phenomenon for this system. Applications to related multi-variable Bessel functions are also discussed.

3F2(1) hypergeometric function and quadratic R-matrix algebra

We construct a class of representations of the quadratic $R$-matrix algebra given by the reflection equation with the spectral parameter, $$ R{\,}(u-v)\,T^{(1)}(u)\,R{\,}(u+v)\,T^{(2)}(v)= T^{(2)}(v)\,R{\,}(u+v)\,T^{(1)}(u)\,R{\,}(u-v), $$ in terms of certain ordinary difference operators. These operators turn out to act as parameter shifting operators on the ${}_3F{}_2(1)$ hypergeometric function and its limit cases and on classical orthogonal polynomials. The relationship with the factorisation method will be discussed.
