A class of state models, called Kronecker-Weierstrass models (or, simply, KW-models), is introduced, and the state representation problem for linear differential systems is studied in the context of these models. It is shown, in particular, that there is a canonical one-to-one correspondence between linear differential systems and similarity classes of minimal proper KW-models.
The class of ordinary linear constant coefficient differential equations is naturally embedded into a wider class by associating differential equations to algebraic curves.
The space of Schwartz distributions of finite order is represented as a factor space of the space of, what we call, Mikusinski functions. The point of Mikusinski functions is that they admit a multiplication by convergent Laurent series. It is shown that this multiplication provides a natural simple basis for Heaviside's operational calculus.
Higher-dimensional analogs of the predictable degree property and column reducedness are defined, and it is proved that the two properties are equivalent. It is shown that every multidimensional convolutional code has, what is called, a minimal reduced polynomial resolution. It is uniquely determined (up to isomorphism) and leads to a number of important integer invariants of the code generalizing classical Forney's indices.
