Two-dimensional S-matrices from unitarity cuts

Using unitarity methods, we compute, for several massive two-dimensional models, the cut-constructible part of the one-loop 2->2 scattering S-matrices from the tree-level amplitudes. We apply our method to various integrable theories, finding evidence that for supersymmetric models the one-loop S-matrix is cut-constructible, while for models without supersymmetry (but with integrability) the missing rational terms are proportional to the tree-level S-matrix and therefore can be interpreted as a shift in the coupling. Finally, applying our procedure to the world-sheet theory for the light-cone gauge-fixed AdS_5 x S^5 superstring we reproduce, at one-loop in the near-BMN expansion, the S-matrix known from integrability techniques.

Unitarity methods for scattering in two dimensions

The standard unitarity-cut method is applied to several massive two-dimensional models, including the world-sheet AdS$_5\times S^5$ superstring, to compute $2\to 2$ scattering S-matrices at one loop from tree level amplitudes. Evidence is found for the cut-constructibility of supersymmetric integrable models, while for models without supersymmetry (but integrable) the missing rational terms can be interpreted as a shift in the coupling.

On DIS Wilson coefficients in N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory

In this note we evaluate Wilson coefficients for "deep inelastic scattering" (DIS) in N=4 SYM theory at NLO in perturbation theory, using as a probe an R-symmetry conserved current. They exhibit uniform transcendentality and coincide with the piece of highest transcendentality in the corresponding QCD Wilson coefficients. We extract from the QCD result a NNLO prediction for the N=4 SYM Wilson coefficient, and comment on the features of its Regge limit asymptotics.

Generalized quark-antiquark potential in AdS/CFT

In this talk we present a family of Wilson loop operators which continuously interpolates between the 1/2 BPS line and the antiparallel lines, and can be thought of as calculating a generalization of the quark--antiquark potential for the gauge theory on S^3 x R. We evaluate the first two orders of these loops perturbatively both in the gauge and string theory. We obtain analytical expressions in a systematic expansion around the 1/2 BPS configuration, and comment on possible all-loop patterns for these Wilson loops.

Generalized quark-antiquark potential at weak and strong coupling

We study a two-parameter family of Wilson loop operators in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory which interpolates smoothly between the 1/2 BPS line or circle and a pair of antiparallel lines. These observables capture a natural generalization of the quark-antiquark potential. We calculate these loops on the gauge theory side to second order in perturbation theory and in a semiclassical expansion in string theory to one-loop order. The resulting determinants are given in integral form and can be evaluated numerically for general values of the parameters or analytically in a systematic expansion around the 1/2 BPS configuration. We comment about the feasibility of deriving all-loop results for these Wilson loops.

Quark-antiquark potential in AdS at one loop

We derive an exact analytical expression for the one-loop partition function of a string in AdS_5xS^5 background with world-surface ending on two anti-parallel lines. All quantum fluctuations are shown to be governed by integrable, single-gap Lame' operators. The first strong coupling correction to the quark-antiquark potential, as defined in N=4 SYM, is derived as the sum of known mathematical constants and a one-dimensional integral representation. Its full numerical value can be given with arbitrary precision and confirms a previous result.

QCD-like properties for anomalous dimensions in N=4 SYM

In this contribution it is shown how closed formulas for anomalous dimensions of two classes of operators in N=4 SYM can be derived, either by investigating the numerics or on the basis of QCD-inspired assumptions. We discuss the case of twist three "gauge" operators in which a complete proof of reciprocity can be carried out.

Reciprocity of gauge operators in N=4 SYM

A recently discovered generalized Gribov-Lipatov reciprocity holds for the anomalous dimensions of various twist operators in N=4 SYM. Here, we consider a class of scaling psu(2,2|4) operators that reduce at one-loop to twist-3 maximal helicity gluonic operators. We extract from the asymptotic long-range Bethe Ansatz a closed expression for the spin dependent anomalous dimension at four loop order and provide a complete proof of reciprocity. We comment about the interplay with possible, yet unknown, wrapping corrections.

Anomalous dimensions of finite size field strength operators in N=4 SYM

In the N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, we consider the higher order anomalous dimensions gamma_L(g) of purely gluonic operators Tr(F^L) where F is a component of the self-dual field strength. We propose compact closed expressions depending parametrically on L that reproduce the prediction of Bethe Ansatz equations up to five loop order, including transcendental dressing corrections. The size dependence follows a simple pattern as the perturbative order is increased and suggests hidden relations for these special operators.

Gauge invariant finite size spectrum of the giant magnon

It is shown that the finite size corrections to the spectrum of the giant magnon solution of classical string theory, computed using the uniform light-cone gauge, are gauge invariant and have physical meaning. This is seen in two ways: from a general argument where the single magnon is made gauge invariant by putting it on an orbifold as a wrapped state obeying the level matching condition as well as all other constraints, and by an explicit calculation where it is shown that physical quantum numbers do not depend on the uniform light-cone gauge parameter. The resulting finite size effects are exponentially small in the $R$-charge and the exponent (but not the prefactor) agrees with gauge theory computations using the integrable Hubbard model.

The scaling function at strong coupling from the quantum string Bethe equations

We study at strong coupling the scaling function describing the large spin anomalous dimension of twist two operators in ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory. In the spirit of AdS/CFT duality, it is possible to extract it from the string Bethe Ansatz equations in the $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ sector of the $\ads$ superstring. To this aim, we present a detailed analysis of the Bethe equations by numerical and analytical methods. We recover several short string semiclassical results as a check. In the more difficult case of the long string limit providing the scaling function, we analyze the strong coupling version of the Eden-Staudacher equation, including the Arutyunov-Frolov-Staudacher phase. We prove that it admits a unique solution, at least in perturbation theory, leading to the correct prediction consistent with semiclassical string calculations.

Finite size corrections and integrability of $\mathcal{N}=2$ SYM and DLCQ strings on a pp-wave

We compute the planar finite size corrections to the spectrum of the dilatation operator acting on two-impurity states of a certain limit of conformal $\mathcal{N}=2$ quiver gauge field theory which is a $Z_M$-orbifold of $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We match the result to the string dual, IIB superstrings propagating on a pp-wave background with a periodically identified null coordinate. Up to two loops, we show that the computation of operator dimensions, using an effective Hamiltonian technique derived from renormalized perturbation theory and a twisted Bethe ansatz which is a simple generalization of the Beisert-Dippel-Staudacher~\cite{Beisert:2004hm} long range spin chain, agree with each other and also agree with a computation of the analogous quantity in the string theory. We compute the spectrum at three loop order using the twisted Bethe ansatz and find a disagreement with the string spectrum very similar to the known one in the near BMN limit of $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory. We show that, like in $\mathcal{N}=4$, this disagreement can be resolved by adding a conjectured ``dressing factor'' to the twisted Bethe ansatz. Our results are consistent with integrability of the $\mathcal{N}=2$ theory within the same framework as that of $\mathcal{N}=4$.

A solution to the 4-tachyon off-shell amplitude in cubic string field theory

We derive an analytic series solution of the elliptic equations providing the 4-tachyon off-shell amplitude in cubic string field theory (CSFT). From such a solution we compute the exact coefficient of the quartic effective action relevant for time dependent solutions and we derive the exact coefficient of the quartic tachyon coupling. The rolling tachyon solution expressed as a series of exponentials $e^t$ is studied both using level-truncation computations and the exact 4-tachyon amplitude. The results for the level truncated coefficients are shown to converge to those derived using the exact string amplitude. The agreement with previous work on the subject, both on the quartic tachyon coupling and on the CSFT rolling tachyon, is an excellent test for the accuracy of our off-shell solution.
